Random in Death excerpt

It’s not too long until the first of Nora’s 2024 releases hit the shelves, so I thought it time to share the excerpt of Random in Death.*

Here’s the official cover copy:

Jenna’s parents had finally given in, and there she was, at a New York club with her best friends, watching the legendary band Avenue A, carrying her demo in hopes of slipping it to the guitarist, Jake Kincade. Then, from the stage, Jake catches her eye, and smiles. It’s the best night of her life. It’s the last night of her life.

Minutes later, Jake’s in the alley getting some fresh air, and the girl from the dance floor comes stumbling out, sick and confused and deathly pale. He tries to help, but it’s no use. He doesn’t know that someone in the crowd has jabbed her with a needle. When Nadine arrives, she knows the only thing left to do for the girl is call her friend, Lieutenant Eve Dallas.

Lab results show a toxic mix of substances in the victim’s body—and for an extra touch of viciousness, the needle was teeming with infectious agents. Dallas searches for a pattern but there are no obvious clues why this levelheaded sixteen-year-old, passionate about her music, would be targeted.

And that worries Eve. Because if Jenna wasn’t targeted, if she was just the random, unlucky victim of a madman consumed by hatred, there are likely more deaths to come.

Now here’s the excerpt: Prologue & Chapter One.

Random in Death is in stores January 23.

    1. Well, I don’t buy them in hardback, only ebk immediately & pbk when it’s released. But I have said many times; if the budget ever gets that bad, heaven forbid, I’ll buy her books before food! And they’ll be worth it!

Thank you for posting the excerpt Laura

  21. 17 years ago I discovered JD Robb’s In Death series. I was on bed rest, in the hospital with identical twin girls. During the many months I stayed there I read the first 39 books in the series back-to-back. Imagine my surprise when I also realized that JD Robb was also Nora Roberts. I have enjoyed all your books immensely. There are probably just a small few I haven’t read. I love your writing style and characters. Reading one of your books is like curling up on a rainy day with a delicious cup of coffee, a warm fire and a soft blanket. Pure comfort and joy! Thank you for years of enjoyment. You are a treasure.

  22. This woman is a sorceress. I swear she pulls me into every story. I always say I’m not going to read the preview because it makes the waiting harder. Then I give in and wait in agony to see what happens. Thank God I have the other books to reread until this one comes out.

  23. Seriously can’t wait for this book. Counting the days to the release date. Looking forward to reading the next death story.

  24. I’ve read Random….. Great read as are all the other 50 + I’ve read
