Here’s the deal

*(Laura note: yes that’s the title of Book 2. It will be in stores in late November 2024.)

  1. I wasn’t upset with the ending, just that I got to the end before I expected!

    1. I too had a WTH moment when I finished Inheritance! After the moment passed I thought Brilliant!!I was, and still am extremely excited for book 2 The Mirror!! After I read Nora’s new Stand alone and JDs In Death I will Re read Inheritance and look Forward to book 2!!! Happy writing Nora ! 🥂 📖 🥂

      1. I too was a little stunned when I finished the book. It felt like more of a cliffhanger than I expected. When I thought about it I realized it usually is one of the relationships that gets tied up neatly, and not the story. It’s funny Nora quotes George RR Martin in her post since we are STILL waiting for the final volumes of that story. When people complain about waiting a year for the next book it makes me laugh. I remember waiting decades for the final book of the Earth’s Children series. Who knows how long we’ll have to wait for the finale to Game of Thrones. And I’m not sure I’ll ever see the next volume of Lovelock by Orso Scott Card.

        1. I had the same thought after reading the blog. I was so surprised when another earth children book came out I thought they were done. I just grateful that Nora is as talented and prolific in her writing as she. I only know one author that puts out as many books as she does. And I read a lot of authors

        2. I waited 4 years for “year of the locust “(Terry Hayes ) follow on from i am pilgrim, has been worth the wait as i am sure “the mirror “ will be, love Nora.

        3. We are never going to see the last two books from GRRM.

      2. I hope Nora realizes that when we complain about waiting a year it’s because the book was so good we didn’t want the story to end! I will reread Inheritance a few times to get me through that year. We do appreciate all the hard work you do and your wonderful imagination. Thank you!

      3. I totally agree. When I finished Inheritance, I was stunned! It couldn’t finish now! But, after mulling it over, it was BRILLIANT!!! So good, in fact, I reread the book!!

      4. I agree and will do the same ! I could not put this down and read it in one day. Your writing just draws us in it’s such a wonderful feeling. So Thank you so much. ❤️

    2. Exactly! I went to the next page and there was no next page. 😳

      1. Exactly! I turned the page and THAT WAS IT! I couldn’t believe it. I felt like I was still holding my breath. It’ll be so difficult to wait for book 2 but we have no choice. Btw, I’m breathing again!

    3. I have to laugh ~ loved the book, but swear the second I listened to the end…I thought, uh oh, people are going to be raising hell about this! Never ceases to amaze me people love to read your books, but STILL want to tell you how to write them. Please, please keep doing what you do the way you do it!! And continue to write at what I’ve always thought was an incredible pace!!

    4. I don’t care how you do it, I just hope you keep doing it.
I have not read a single word in any of your books that disappointed me!
      Keep up the great work.
      Thanks for all you do.

      1. I wanted a like button for this comment Kristy

      2. Well said! I feel the same!! You’re the best Nora! Your loyal fans know the drill and will wait patiently for the next book, no matter how long it takes!!
I remember with book 1 of the Dragon Heart Legacy, chronicles of the one, the guardians and so many of the other trilogy’s where I was like WTH” but the remaining books were always worth the wait!

    5. Completely agree. I respect her creative authority, but it’s so good and to have to wait so long. That’s it–just a very long gap is all

    6. Same here! Heart racing in bed, as I started reading the book last night, and (sadly) I just finished the book. It’s so true that we read faster than any human can write, never mind the process. Still, couldn’t help the “WTF! November 2024? SERIOUSLY???” that came out of my mouth. 🙂 I’ve been reading the Nora Roberts (and then JD ROBB) since my late teens, over 25 years ago. I know what to expect. Still…

  2. It was the perfect ending spot for book 1. Do I wish we had book 2 & 3 now. of course. we’re spoiled. We love your writing but to write to you and Laura complaining is silly. Please don’t get frustrated with us and stop writing.

    1. I won’t stop writing because it’s what I do. But I may at some point stop reading and struggling to respond to the demands and complaints as it feels repetitive and pointless.

There would be no social media without Laura.

I want readers to be happy, but some don’t seem to be unless I do exactly what they want and when they want. And I can’t.

      1. Hey there, excellent story as usual. Some people have such short memories regarding the ending of your story. Did they all forget the ending of the first book in The Dragonheart series? Hmmm. I’m patiently waiting for 2 and 3. In the meanwhile, I’ll just read your other stories again and again.

        1. That’s exactly what I thought. Stepping into the mirror reminded me of jumping through the portal with Keegan, Breen and Marco. I’m good with it. I’m relistening to The Becoming right now.

          1. I agree. And the best part is we can
read the book again and again before the second book comes out.

        2. My thoughts exactly. A girl with a not so great life, comes into something to change her life, had something she must accept, and ends going through something into ‘another dimension’ (yet to be determined where). Same outline… But I loved the book, can’t wait to read it again, and so very much look forward to #2. And I’ll re-read her other books several times over in the meantime. She has repeatung themes, names, quirks, but they all come from characters I love and stories I can’t get enough of.

        3. I do this too, reread the trilogies when I need some comfort, or when I’m waiting for the next book in a trilogy. I absolutely loved the way Inheritance ended and cannot wait for The Mirror. In the meantime, I’ll read the Keys trilogy, because it’s my favorite…no, wait, it’s the Circle trilogy…no, the Sign of Seven…or In the Garden…etc., etc., etc…

      2. I didn’t read ALL of the comments, who has that kind of time? lol. But I read a lot of them & it seemed to me the complaints are a)silly. b) WHINY. c) maybe getting fewer & fewer? I hope so for Laura’s sake and yours. I am seeing mostly sensible people this time around who all agree that your books are super entertaining and we can’t wait until the next one AND are eternally grateful for how much you publish. So, THANK YOU again and again!

      3. I’m so sorry you feel you have to take time to write an explanation. You are an artist and an artist’s process is their own. Yes, there are production deadlines and processes that take time. But please know, your books are gifts to us. Your characters become friends, often revisited because they are so well written.
        Thank you. 😊

      4. Nor should you have to.
I haven’t read the book yet nor read any comments about it. People either ruin the story for me or their comments have little substance. When I participate in a book discussion, it had better have substance.
For those disappointed in the ending of one book of a trilogy, they approach it in the same manner as I do. I wait until all three books have been written so I can read them in close sequence. That’s a very workable soluation. Yes, you might have to wait to complete the trilogy for several years, but so what? There are plenty of Nora’s and Robb’s to keep one satisfied throughout the year.
        Cheers, all!

        1. I totally agree with you as this is what I do. I started reading Nora’s books way back when she first wrote for M&B. At that time I had a standing order to get all 6 books delivered every month and still have some of the ones she first published. I have read and reread all of Nora’s books many times and as long as she writes I will read them. Other authors from that time that I still buy and read are Sharon Sala and Maggie Shayne to name only two. No one author can possibly write enough books to keep some readers happy. Nora is my number favourite author but I do read a lot so I have others that I read in between times.
Keep up the good work and thank you for many years for happy, exciting reading.
          Merry Christmas to you all

      5. So sorry you felt you had to take time to write this. Your answer shows me how much you care about your readers! I love any and all of your writing! Please do not change a thing! You have every right to do what you do!!

      6. You owe the readers no explanation. Although we appreciate your thoughts, as always. Just keep producing!

      7. I love your books, have for years. My only concern is your brain —- where do you come up with some of these stories?! It’s seriously scary sometimes! Keep up the fantastic work for those of us that truly appreciate all your hard work!

      8. Nora, I have loved your books for years & years! Thank you for so many great stories!
As to your frustration of repetitive comments, try to remember that you are still getting new fans every day in virtually every country around the world.
You & your long time fans, have seen and/or heard many of the same complaints & suggestions many times, but I’m guessing your new fans haven’t. Terribly frustrating for you, I’m sure, but your post educating them on the process & what can & can’t be done & what to expect was what they need to hear. It shows you listen & care about your readers enough to address their issues, even if it’s not possible to change anything.
You’ve posted something similar many times over the years, but it’s probably new information to each of your new fans – or possibly even a lot of your long time fans who may have only recently ventured into social media platforms.
Keep doing what you do. We all love your stories!

      9. We are so grateful for all of the books you have written before and always look forward to the new ones when they are ready. Please don’t change your process as we want you to enjoy it as long as possible. You are the only author who’s books I will go back and reread again and again. Hope you and Laura have a wonderful Christmas season with family and friends!

      10. Your writing enriches my life. Really, you give me lots of enjoyment. Thank you
I did something this book that I never did before. I re-read it almost immediately.
Blessings to you and your Family 🙏

      11. It is similar to Marco jumping into the portal….. I wanted to know what happened and not wait a year but. I did. I kind of imagine what might happen but usually, I am not even close. And now I will read other books and next November I will re-read Inheritance and find out what happens in The Mirror.

      12. I guess Nora like so many people in our country, some of your readers just feel “entitled “. Put simply, in my opinion, thy are not. If I were you, I would just ignore them. The truth is, these stories are not theirs, they are yours. No one says that they have to devour each book as it comes out (full disclosure, I do) they could, as some people do, wait until all three are out and then just read them one after the other. In the long run, no matter what you say or do, some are going to complain. As I said, if it were I, I’d ignore them or maybe as the Irish say, I’d tell them to FECK off. I love your books whenever they come out. 😊

        1. Thank you. Laura these are exactly my feelings/thoughts. It all about you. I thank you for what you do, what you share, and for your amazing writing.

      13. And you shouldn’t change a thing. I’m always amazed at people who absolutely love an author but complain about this kind of stuff. Obviously we love your books and that must mean your process is working for us. I’m honestly amazed at how much you write and the quality of each book. You just keep doing you!

      14. Your books are all wonderful, keep doing what you are doing. The only disapointment I had with Inheritance is that it was over. One of the best books I’ve read in a long time. I can’t wait for The Mirror, but that means I have something to look forward to next year. I’ve told all my friends how great it is and now they are on waiting lists at their libraries. Thanks for all the great reads you have given me. Happy Holidays!

      15. Some people are happiest being negative and unhappy. Truth. My husband and I are always puzzled by them.
You keep writing at your own speed, in your own way and we will keep reading and rereading, its all good.
I remember screaming myself hoarse when you killed Max. I couldn’t believe you did that. But I did come to understand eventually. Actually, you aren’t the first author to do that to me. When I read Justin Cronin’s The Passage, I didn’t know it was the beginning of a trilogy. I actually threw my kindle across the room 😆 and I had to wait much longer to get the next two!

      16. You love to write them, I love to read them….and, I thought the ending of book one was pretty spectacular-

      17. I was startled by the ending, because I didn’t realize I was that close to the end of the book. That’s on me. Ha ha I could’ve paid attention. Sure I wish that the next looks of trilogies came out sooner but if that meant not getting an end book or a standalone so that it could come out sooner yeah no. Give me that I’ve tried starting writing books several times and never gotten through the whole process without counting any editing and publishing stuff. I appreciate what we get from you. And that it’s from you. The only person I can think of who has more books out in a year than you do is James Patterson and he has people doing a lot of the writing You do the research you do the writing. That’s a lot of work. I don’t know how you get that many out but I’m so glad you do. I appreciate you.

      18. Nora, you do you.

I know of few authors who are as creative, write dialogue as brilliantly (I have snorted out coffee reading exchanges between characters) and engage readers (I am one who has stayed up all night reading) like you do with FOUR BOOKS A YEAR. I am shaking my head for those in the back who don’t get what a tremendous amount of work that is.

I interviewed John Grisham once about pacing and writing and he told me if you write one page a day, in a year you have a book. That’s not typing one page a day, which is different. It’s creating – characters, world, story, lives readers care about and that you care about.

I’m constantly amazed at how hard you work. When I read a new book, I always try to limit myself to a chapter a day to make it last longer, like a kid with a long-awaited treat. Unfortunately, like that kid, about halfway (sometimes sooner) I give in and just read the rest. /shrug Then I have to wait. But then I can go back and enjoy previous worlds while I do, and Laura’s work on social reminds us of those stories and the funny and special moments we might want to go relive.

Thank you for hard work and for sharing your gifts.

      19. From a devoted reader of *ahem* years, I loved it, I just wasn’t ready for it to stop! Like with all of your books, really. Thank you for all that you do. Three generations of my family were obsessed with the latest “Nora” and if I could share this with them in heaven, I would.

      20. Blame it on McDonald’s, Nora & tell them they owe you fries because of it! They taught folks that they can “have it their way” whenever they want it & we now expect it in everything, reasonable or not. Even coined a term: mcdonaldalization. Yep, I found that in a sociological textbook years ago.
I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve seen you have to explain all of this process over & over again and I’m sorry that you feel that you have to take time out of your life to do so once again.
Ah well, I’ll just read the book several more times over the year, and reread oh so many of the In Deaths as I always do. Thank you so much for the entertainment!

      21. You do what you do and do it extremely well. I had a WTH moment as well but just for a moment. So I just read another book or series. You’ve written enough that we can all fulfill our Nora fix all year long. Remember you can please all of the people some of the time but you can’t please all of the people all of the time so please just shine us on and do your own thing. (Not that you need permission). Love you, Nora and Laura.

      22. I just can’t wait. This gives me a chance to enjoy a past novel, and I’ll reread this one again before the next comes out. I’m honestly excited, I LOVED the cliffhanger and I can’t wait to read more. Until then I’ll revisit a past novel and go to that world while I wait.

      23. Love your books and have been reading them for years, and please ignore the “whiners”. I can’t imagine what it takes to write a book, the conversations, the detail, the storyline. In awe of you and the many others who give us endless hours of entertainment. Thank you!

      24. That’s just the way of the world now sadly. People demand and expect others to do, change, hop to it, whatever it is they want. It’s amazing how entitled people have become. I also had my “ no it can’t end there” moment when I finished the book, but I figured going in since it was a trilogy that there would be a cliffhanger. That was a doozy! Reading the blog I was surprisingly a little put off. The irritation comes through and admonishing. Then I thought about things more and I get it. The comments must be overwhelming, but isn’t that in a way compliments? The fact that they feel so much about the ending means we invested in the characters immensely. The fact that so many people are wanting ( which doesn’t mean you HAVE to fulfill ) the next book now, means they truly loved the book. I know I did! I read it then also listened to the audio because I loved it so much!

        1. After 4 decades, I know Nora recognizes the compliments in the comments. However, those comments have gotten louder and edgier over the years. I jokingly said to Nora I could have just written a Cranky Publicist post with links to the various posts she’s written about her process since 2013. But she writes a new one every time, knowing that there are always new readers in the fold who may not know her process.

She’d answered the cruelty of a cliffhanger comment and let that go, but the one that dismissively said she’d gotten to a point in the book and “was done writing” was a step too far. I was so angered by that comment (and I don’t do anything but READ the books), it took me 24 hours before I let Nora know it was coming and approved it.

This blog is the space where Nora and I share our thoughts. On the whole it’s a happy place — Nora and I work hard to make it so. Sometimes though, we have to dig down and address things in ways that could feel admonishing. And then we move along.

          Laura

          1. Thank you ladies for sharing the behind the scenes to us. I rank Nora up with my new Thanksgiving heroes. I watched Cher age 77 Macy’s Day Parade. Listening to Inheritance by Nora age 70. Then Dolly age 77 perform at the Cowboy half time show. Gave me age 53 new perspective on my life goals. You ladies showed me to get off my excuses and become an author, a Rockstar, or whatever I can dream. I hope you ladies have an Amazing holiday!!!!!

      25. My Goodreads review asked what comes after five stars? And of course I ranted and raved that I can’t *possibly* wait another year for part two!
But of course I will! I’ll be there waiting to get Mirror as SOON as it’s released! Will I pull every string I have after my 40+ years in publishing to try and get a an ARC or a galley? Yes, yes, I will!
But the bottom line is I will be buying that book on November 24, 2024 if I don’t have it before then. And I will be waiting with bated breath for the third volume in 2025 (?).
Thank you, Nora, for writing what we OBVIOUSLY love reading!!!!!!

      26. There is no pleasing everybody. But obviously you please the majority as you are a sought after and in demand author. Block the negativity. Thank you for all your efforts to entertain the masses. You are, by far, my favorite author to read

      27. Don’t struggle. You addressed it once. You said it once. That is all those complainers need. That is enough.
If they truly loved your books and respected you as a writer, and more importantly, as a human being, they would know that is your style. Your plan.

      28. You do what you do better than anyone else in your area as far as your readers are concerned. We have been reading your work for more years that I want to admit to. Do I get to the end and say ***! Of course I do, and at my age making it to the end is not a certainty (or for anyone else for that matter). But we go in knowing it is a TRILOGY!!! People, get over it! If you can’t take it, read the books that end with one. Thank you Nora for following YOUR muse and doing what you do!
        Lynn H

      29. Absolutely no complaints and no demands here. You just be Nora and I’ll just be devoted fan and avid reader. I love your books particularly the trilogies and books about magik. Thanks for being you! Happy Holidays to you and yours!

      30. Unfortunately, that seems to be how the world is right now. Cell phones, streaming TV and the internet have created a compulsion for instant gratification.

I encourage you to just roll your eyes, ignore what they say and not let them get to you.

I have been a fan of yours since the beginning (yes I am showing my age). I look forward to every May and November. Thank you for the joy you have given me and the adventures we all get to go on through reading your books 💕

Off to re-read the Key Trilogy or one of your other amazing stories while I wait for your next amazing and creative adventure.

      31. It’s amazing that one negative comment can hurt amidst millions of positive. I pray feel the love and positive energy being sent to you. You give so much to millions. Thank you for sharing your gift

      32. …and nor should you. It never ceases to amaze me how people decide that they know what is best for the writer Nora and and for your social engagement writer Laura. I think both or you do a magnificent job responding and it would not surprise me at all if you both decided to stop. Sometime I want to yell at the people who tell you how to do your job as a writer, and how Laura should engage with the readers. I want to remind them that it is your right to choose your own stories to tell, It is your right to have a life besides writing and to remind them that they are taking your time away from your writing, your friends and your family when you feel the need to respond to their complaints. I can’t yell at them through the computer and I also need to remind myself that humans are just humans.

Thank you Nora for the enjoyment you have given me since the 80ies and thank you Laura for keeping so many readers (all loyal even if sometimes pushhy or misguided) on track. S

      33. I’m sorry people are impatient and sometimes rude. I’ve often felt similarly but have never considered writing to complain. I truly love your books and especially enjoyed Inheritance. You have been a joy in my life and I can’t wait to read what you write next. Thank you for the countless hours of pleasure you’ve given me. ❤️

      34. Hi Nora, I’ve read you your books from the beginning. (I’m 64 🙂 and a Grandma of an adorable 2 year old wild little guy! Please know no matter what people say, your readers will keep on reading. Social media can be a blessing or a curse. I look forward to your stand a lones and your trilogies. As of this posting, I haven’t quite finished Inheritance. Been a little busy with my almost 90 yo mom. 😉 Not sure (yet) what all the drama is, but I’ll be looking forward to book 2 next Fall.
Ps I’m a California girl but lived in Towson Md for 9 yrs when I was growing up. Love Md,!

      35. Nora..keep doing what you are doing. Inheritance was fantastic and I can’t wait for the next! I wish I had your talent.

  3. I thought it was a kickass ending! Exactly where a great, story teller would leave one…waiting for the next part of the story!

    Thank you!!!

    1. I agree! The book pulled me and the ending made so much sense to me. A great creative choice. To be “angry” at a story ending is disconcerting to say the least. Lighten up people!

    2. I think that our comments, complaints and criticism are irrelevant. The creative process of writing a book must take discipline, imagination and finely honed skills. And time, so much time, as long as it takes. A book is a gift to us readers, not a commercial product to be taken off a shelf.
I am an avid reader, in constant awe of the talent and discipline needed to “feed” my habit.

      1. Exactly, Rivki and what a gift writers like Nora give us. S

  4. I don’t get all the comments about writing faster, either. Then the same people would be complaining about quality. You do you, Nora. I’ll gladly wait (with great anticipation!) for the next book, cliffhanger and all!!!

  5. I always love where your stories end! Having said that I have to say I havent read Inheritance yet. Im saving it for vacation the end of this week!!! But Im sure I will not care where you end it as long as I know another one is coming!

  6. I absolutely loved how The Inheritance ended. Can’t wait for book two so I can immerse myself in the story! Great job Nora!

  7. I was so angry at the ending I’ve listened to it 5 times. Yes, 5. Plus 3 Robb’s, 2 other Roberts’ and a Howard or 2. You write and I’ll read. And many thanks.

  8. Yes, the ending was shocking, but I’ve been a Nora Roberts reader for years, decades…ever since Irish Thoroughbred. I’ve learned to trust her creative process.

  9. I absolutely loved Inheritance! Best book I’ve read in a while. The ending was perfect! I can’t imagine why anyone would question it! How boring if all trilogy books ended in the same way or followed the same format. Nora, you are so creative. I would give anything to have an imagination like yours and the ability to tell a story. Pay no attention the the complainers!

  10. It’s ridiculous that people expect authors to write as fast as they read. Keep up the fabulous job you do and ignore these fools.

  11. I loved the book! The ending left me wanting more! I appreciate knowing more is coming. Nora writes the best cliffhangers!

  12. People ask you to write faster?! I can’t believe that! (I occasionally wish other authors would write as fast as Nora Roberts, but they disappoint me).
Nora, I’ve been reading you since 1981 when my roommates and I pitched in on a Harlequin subscription. You have turned out 4 books a year every year come rain, shine or pandemic. To hell with people who demand you change. Jeez. I mean… That takes a lot of nerve.

  13. Thank you for clearing this up for those who don’t understand. It seems to me that the younger generation (I’m 67) want everything NOW. My second favorite writer, after You, took three years to finish her latest book and just like you she has those who whine and complain. So for all those complainers out there…”get over yourself.”

    1. The ending was perfect. I read it and thought “Oh my God!” It was an amazing cliff hanger. I did expect a cliff hanger as it is a series. I was curious as to when the next one was coming out, so, I looked that up. I will reread the first book right before the second comes. And while I’m excited to read the second book, I can wait a year.

  14. This is what I do. I drink and I write stories. (Not at the same time!)….this is hilarious! (not me, Nora) And I hope when they are saying write faster that they are just loving the book and can’t wait for the next book. I do that with all of your books….literally. I just prebuy and get excited when they show up. I gulp them way too fast. So I’m just grateful you are writing!!!!

  15. I absolutely stand behind your decision to end the book that way!!! It’s an engaging, shocking cliffhanger where we, the readers, can look forward to the next books. I have read everything, and I mean everything, you have written starting with Magnolia Sky (my favorite). Please don’t feel you need to justify how and what you write. Thank you for your trilogies, stand alones and the world of Eve. I look forward to each and every publication!!

    1. Yes. Just yes this says all that needs to be said Michelle

  16. I loved Onheritance! Was I surprised at the ending? Sure. Am I champing at the bit for the next one? Again sure. Was it a little out of the norm from some of your other trilogies? Yeah a bit because you didn’t get a “resolution” to the relationship, but it was wonderful! Being from Maine it was fun to read a book set here and I for one am not going to complain about how it ended or when the next one will be out. I’ll read the others a bunch of times again(re-reading The Dragon Heart Legacy now) and wait for The Mirror. Anyone that complains this hard about a book is just selfish and doesn’t understand the process. Some wrote more quickly than others and it’s well deserved for you to take the time you need to write wonderful stories. At least we know it’s not AI writing these ones because no one robot or otherwise writes like you do!

  17. Thank you for all you give us! Yes, we love your stories and want more right away….who doesn’t want more right away? I’m pretty sure most of us understand writing takes time. Thanks for the detailed information on the process, perhaps this will help some of the complainers realize it’s a process and not just a quick week of work.

  18. I love all of your books. I liked the ending of Inheritance and will wait patiently for the next one. Thank you for doing what you do!

  19. Nora and Laura, You have a tremendous job to do, and you both do a fabulous job. I understand the timeline of what it takes to produce the final project. And I thank you both.
Merry Christmas to you and your family, from my family. Looking forward to next year when I cuddle up with The Mirror.
    Gladys Skowrunski.

  20. As much as I want the next book and the next, I totally understand the ending of Inheritance. To me it makes me look forward to the next book! Then the next! Loved the story.

  21. You are a creative miracle, Nora, and ignore those who disagree. You have delighted my mom, and now, me with all your stories. Now that my mom is gone from this world, I feel her reading over my shoulder with delight as she experiences your books with me.
We both loved “Inheritance” and will deliciously wait for Book 2.

  22. Never change. What you do is perfect and the best stories. Never change.

  23. First and always, thanks for sharing your stories!! They are great reads!! Sure, I went, ‘well damn,” at the ending of Inheritance. I love and hate the ending. It absolutely builds the suspense and I can hardly and will wait to read the next book in the trilogy.

  24. I wasn’t disappointed at all! I can remember listening to The Awakening in my car and screaming Nooo! At the end. Now THAT was a cliffhanger! I will patiently wait for the next book, it gives me time to reread some of my favorites. Have a wonderful holiday, rest those fingers!

  25. Your books always move me. How you write is your business. Please just keep on keeping on in your own way. Thank you for enriching my life. I love to read!

  26. Nora, I’m sorry that some people are so unreasonable. I was surprised by the ending, but then I kinda laughed and thought to myself “Go Nora!” Happy holidays to you and Laura and your families!

  27. So many writers only produce one book or perhaps two books a year…I am excited as always knowing I’ll get at least four books a year…

  28. How sad that you had to explain anything about your books and how you write them. I love all your books.

  29. Hmmm. I didn’t know it was a trilogy. I thought it ended ok.

  30. Do I wish the next 2 books were released sooner? Of course I do which is a major compliment as that means you hooked me with the plot of the first book. Did I like where it ended? No, but that is on me, not you. And yes, I’m planning to wait for the release of book 3 before buying book 2 so I can read book 3 immediately after book 2.

  31. Such an excellent book!! It ended where and how it was supposed to. I don’t get why people think they can be keyboard warriors and say the things they do. For the one of us who truly love the books – we’ll wait for number two….perhaps not so patiently but we’ll wait!!

  32. Ok, I did make a comment on FB…one word…”maaannn.” Lol, I hope that wasn’t disrespectful! It was totally tongue in cheek. Of course I devoured the book, and loved it! I’m of the bite the ice cream cone, not slowly lick it. I don’t have the discipline to wait to read all three together, so I know I gotta wait. Since my time and money is important I’m not the book wh**re I used to be. So I wait for my favorite authors and then goggle them up. Thank you for suppling my addiction. 🙂

  33. The ending was fine, I love me a good cliffhanger. As to the time between books, I totally agree that it takes us a lot less time to read a book. Then it takes Nora to write one. The only thing about Nora that scares me is that she and I are just about the same age And I hope she never stops writing until I am no longer here to read her books. Happy holidays to you, Laura and Nora.

  34. You are one of my favorite authors. Your books always grab me and suck me into the story. I love your characters, the plots, the settings, the relationships. I am one of this who waits until all three books are published so I don’t stew about the cliffhangers. I admire the fact that your write four (!!!) complete books a year. I find that amazing and impressive. My other favorite authors write one book a year – so I have many so that I always have a new book to anticipate. I reread my favorite books frequently – it helps tide me over until a new one arrives. We readers always want the next book ASAP, which is the result of you being such a good writer. I try to pace my reading p, but often get so absorb, it’s 3 or 4 am before I finish and I’m like – darn, now I have to figure out what to read next. I have so many of your books and others from my other favorite authors, that I always have something I can read or reread. You continue to write as you do (between your exercising, gardening, spring cleanings, Christmas shopping, getaways with family and friends, and enjoying your wonderful grandchildren), and I will continue to be one of your fans and buy and read your books! Have a wonderful Christmas and New Years!

  35. Thank you for reading our comments, but it’s your book, your ideas so ,please continue to write what suits you and your flow of thoughts. One again, thank you for your great ideas.
    Happy holidays .

  36. My 2 cents worth……. I have loved all of your books. Have I wished there was more at the end of some – absolutely. I don’t write – I read, a lot – sometimes 2 books a day and I was still working 8 hours and driving to work 2 hours a day. What I don’t understand is – this is your book, your process and for the most part – apart of you. People need to get real. Thank you for taking your thoughts, ideas and putting them onto “paper”. I haven’t bought “Inheritance” yet. Maybe when “The Mirror” comes out. I didn’t read the Dragon Heart Legacy until I had all 3 and have reread it twice. That’s just how I roll.
Thanks again for all of your and your team’s hard work and efforts!
    Merry Christmas!
    Cindy

  37. I don’t understand why anyone expected this trilogy to be different than her previous ones as far as where it breaks between books. The Awakening trilogy did same thing.
I’m a fan and am grateful for the two Nora Roberts books a year. If you can’t deal with the timing, then wait until all three books are published. But gripping about it just annoys the author and her team and could set her off writing as much.

  38. It never ceases to amaze me how many people are so demanding and ungrateful. Was I shocked at the end? Yes. Did I curse out loud? Yes! But I completely and thoroughly loved the book and anything else you write. Looking forward to number two! Let the Karen’s be the Karen’s. The rest of us will just wait and re read!

    1. SMH, I expected better of people on this site than resorting to disrespectful language.

  39. No explanations needed you are one of my favorite authors. There is a reason why it was left the way it ended.

  40. My first response was Hell Yeah and that’s still how I feel. I think you wrote an excellent story and I’m looking forward to re-reading it soon just because I want to and it’s that good. I’m not in a rush for the next one. I know how your schedule runs so no cliffhanger pisses me off. It just entices me to make sure I have the next one in November. I can forget about that one sometimes between the 2 Robbs and stand alone Roberts between and then go “oh yeah life is good” as I download it when it comes out. Lol.
So you do your thing and I’ll read whatever you put out, whenever it comes out. I’m grateful for the books you do put out every year. You could say screw it all and hang it up, but you don’t so… thanks! Best part of my day when I got a new NR is putting my house to bed and chilling with my Mary Jane and a damn good book.

My Yoda and I wish you and Laura a Merry and Bright holiday!

  41. I used to wait until all the parts of a series were finished before I started, then I decided why wait. I’m going to read these books more than once. I can enjoy it now and again in a year, then again when part three comes out. Did I privately grumble and complain about the ending, yes. I would never expect you to change your process. I want all those other books too! I want them to be as wonderful as they always are. I don’t understand why any fan would complain to you or expect you to change. Patience is a virtue that seems to have been lost. Waiting will just make it all the sweeter when The Mirror comes out next year.

  42. I borrowed from Laura the phrase “WTF” and giving a very perturbed look to Nora’s picture hoping telepathy would have her getting goosebumps from my daggers! I love you Nora and the great story teller that you are. I just keep praying to God to give me extra time on this earth until all the upcoming ones are released! Well, it gives be something to look forward to as well!

  43. I loved this book. And it didn’t upset me where it ended! It’s a trilogy so I expected an ending like this. I don’t understand other readers complaining when you finish and have 2-3 books out every year. I read all you do under all the names and re-read favorites all the time!

  44. I cannot people who made those comments or were mad. Talk about entitled. Nor can I believe that people still do not know this, they are commenting so they must read your comments on this over the years. How rude and ignorant. Nora, you work your tail off and have a family that you must spend time with. I saw the ending coming and how that would happen and was not shocked. I feel so terrible for you and Laura have to read all those nasty comments. Nora, thank you for your work, enjoy the family and the Vive. Merry Christmas

  45. Inheritance was amazing! I love and appreciate every NR story❤️

  46. I am not complaining because I am waiting until all three books are published in order to stay up and read them in one seating. Hopefully I can hold out. First time trying this approach so wish me luck.

  47. Loved the ending! It was perfect! Personally, I think it just added to the excitement for the next book. I’m always excited for the next one book in, especially in trilogies, but the most recent three trilogies (since 2016) have really amped up that excitement. You’re brilliant! Can’t wait for more!!

  48. The ending of Inheritance gave me a WTF feeling but I am not upset with Nora or Laura. It should have been expected same as the ending to book one of the Dragon Heart Trilogy Awakening left me with a WTF feeling. It’s what Nora does and it is what pulls us all in and makes her books so special!

  49. Man, holy heck, people are so dang demanding! 😳😬

  50. I could not believe how much I fell in love with “Inheritance”! I knew it ended with a cliffhanger and I had a feeling it would involve the mirror and I was so worried for Sonya. It may sound silly but I loved the ending and stopped worrying about her once Owen took her hand an went too. That was brilliant!!
Of course I will say I can’t wait for the next book, well duh!! I can never wait for a new Nora book!!
Just a side note…. I never thought I would ever enjoy a “best friend” like I did Marco in The Dragonheart legacy but Cleo is mighty close!!!
    This book is magnificent!!

  51. I loved the book from Page 1 to the ending! I can’t wait until the next book comes out! Nora writes 4 books a year! My goodness, I don’t know how she does it! Each and everyone she writes is outstanding. The wait for Book 2 will have readers clamoring to buy it and read it. That’s what trilogies are all about. I have plenty to read until November 2024 and will be waiting on bated breath until then! I love Nora Robert’s books!❤️❤️❤️

  52. You are one of the best authors I know. I can’t wait for whichever book comes out next, because I know it will be incredible. It’s always hard to wait for the next book in a trilogy, but I would never complain about the ending.

  53. I totally get it and am just thankful when a new Roberts/Robb book hits my local bookstore. You do a great job Nora. It was an interesting cliffhanger and I can’t wait to read The Mirror next year. The characters you’ve created are fun and intriguing.

  54. I absolutely loved Inheritance!! (I could really use a Molly though. ) Your mind and heart are amazing places. You keep writing and I’ll keep buying!

  55. I’m waiting for the trilogy to be completed before I read them. I made this decision because I realised that there was some unhappiness with the ending. I don’t know what the ending is. I’ll find out in three years time. I’m happy to wait and binge read all three books. I wouldn’t question how Nora does her job. She’s a professional and expert in her field. I don’t have any right to tell her how to do her job. I love how she works. That’s why I read her books.

  56. People really need to get over themselves. I love a good cliff hanger. Fans of a TV series wait sometimes 18 months for the next season. Waiting a year for the next book is not a long wait.

  57. Yes, I wrote on Facebook yes, I boohooed that we won’t see The Mirror for another year, but everything that I said was wonderful & complementary!!! Wow Amazing Brilliant that is who you are and you keep topping yourself! …anybody who would intimate that they would stop reading you because you can’t write fast enough for them is kind of an idiot and you’re too smart, too savvy and your creative process is yours & our grumbling is out of sheer greediness…we just love it And hope we can always read your books. We look forward to them every time so we get antsy. It’s just human nature. We love your writing. I love your books -(heck I’m in another read-through of …in death, and I am up to Dark and reading it right now) I have shelves and shelves full of all your work, Nora!!!
Years ago I met you at a book signing and I said I’m so sorry I’m just gonna gosh and you said “ I don’t mind, gush away -that’s how I feel!!!

  58. Nora, I have read every book, and every trilogy you have written as Nora. They are always written perfectly, in my opinion. What I try to do is wait until all 3 books have been published so I stay connected to the characters, but it’s difficult to wait because I love your books so much. I have one more chapter of Inheritance, and will finish it tonight in bed. I’m excited and sad. What will I read now? 😢
Perhaps I will start reading your Robb books.
I would love to meet you some day.
    Enjoy the holidays!
    Lynn

  59. I have always been amazed at the amount of books you pump out. When I first started reading your books, I would reread your books while waiting for the new book to come out. It seemed I never had to wait long. An added bonus was the new books came out around my birthday and Mother’s Day so one child of mine ALWAYS knew what to get me.
I appreciate your comments about Inheritance- unfortunately there will be some who won’t get it and will always complain. You have just spoiled us, I guess.
On the other hand, we have to wait on movie sequels- I remember having to wait three years to find out what happened to Hans Solo in THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK! That was torture!

    1. Love your example of waiting to find out what happened to Han Solo! What a good point you made.

  60. I think you’re amazing at the amount of books you write every year. I am not going to bitch at you because you don’t write faster You write faster than many authors and your books are always great. It amazes me how entitled people can be. You have provided me many, many hours of reading enjoyment. Thank you very much!!

  61. I really enjoy your writing and I am so amazed with the amount of books you write/create every year. The ending was definitely a surprise but then I realized her dad and uncle at some point went thru the mirror.

  62. Absolutely NO complaints, just a heart-felt thank you ( from a long time fan ) for the books you write. Please keep doing what you do best… don’t let the negative remarks bog you down. Those people have no idea what goes into the creatvie writing process. My first book is published and the final edits of book #2 are done. The third book a quarter way finished. It’s taken me years to get this far thanks to you and your “chats-with RWA” sessions inspiring me to never give up. So many thanks, Nora… for great advice and fantastic stories to read… happy writing 💜💜

  63. People are ridiculous! You are one of the most prolific writers out there, and I am so grateful for it. I loved Inheritance, and I can’t wait for the next books. Thanks for bringing me and so many readers hours and hours of joy through your work.

  64. I have spent the last few Thanksgiving weekends enjoying my new Nora books. Thank you for all you do! I have read every single Nora book multiple times…they have their own special place in my heart. As long as you keep writing…I promise to read!

  65. I’m sorry that the Inheritance ending is causing any grief. The book was suburb! Nora remains my favorite author and I read a bunch! Thank you for continuing to write, you have a master of understanding of relatable storytelling❣️

  66. I loved Inheritance! Was I surprised at the ending ? Yes! Since we know the next will be ‘The Mirror’ I can say I feel like the ones left on the wrong side with no way to know what’s happening on the other side. I’m just sad that we have to wait a year BUT it will be well worth it!

  67. You write you! I loved it even the cliffhanger. I was sort of expecting it as look what happened between Awakening and Becoming. To expect a different ending would be unrealistic from my point of view. I appreciate all the books you produce and pray you will continue beyond my reading life. I love reading your books and follow up by listening to the audiobooks. You are a favorite of mine. Keep ‘em coming and forget about the naysayers.

  68. I read the book in one sitting. Best book I’ve read in a very long time. The ending? Perfect. I love a cliffhanger. I can’t wait for the second book. Inheritance was better than chocolate. And that’s saying something coming from me

  69. I savor Nora’s books like a fine chocolate truffle. And to really get every last flavor from her stories, I reread (actually re-listen since I usually get the audiobook) the first book before I listen the second. And I re-listen to the first and second before I listen to the third. Then between the new releases, I go back and re-listen to one of the older trilogies. I do the same with the J. D. Robb books. I always marvel that you can get so many new releases out each year. I’m 70 and have been listening to Nora for as long as she has been writing. And loving every word. Thank you, Nora, from this fellow Maryland girl, for many years of joy.

  70. The ending was perfect. It drives the anticipation for the next book. I usually re-read the first one just for the next ones comes out. And then the first and second just before the third comes out. Best of all worlds.

  71. Simply put, I loved it. Keep doing what you’re doing🙂 I admire your ability to write!

  72. What are trilogies but set-length serials, after all? If that was good enough for Dickens’s readers it’s good enough for me. “David Copperfield” began in May 1849 and finished in Nov 1850.

  73. I love all of your books- I own them all, JD Robb included, and some I happen to have 2 or 3 copies of for various reasons, lol. I re-read frequently, especially the trilogies and quartets.
I will admit, my first reaction to the ending (and I actually said it out loud 🤣), was “WTF?! No way!!!” I really just didn’t want the story to end-I wasn’t ready!!! I was so sucked in, I wasn’t ready to climb out yet 😁.
I certainly don’t expect you to write any faster than you do; I find it beyond impressive that you put out as many books as you do each year, and your ability to weave a story that I don’t want to leave is second to none. Your books are a way to escape; you are greatly appreciated for sharing your talents with us.
    Happy writing!!

    1. I liked this book so much I let it be read to me twice I never do that. I take the dog for multiple long walks a day so being read to is how I read now. I loved this and can’t wait for the next one. I might go for a third listen before the next one is due…

  74. Absolutely loved this book, I read it again two weeks later!

  75. Yes, the ending was like falling off a cliff; which for a trilogy it should be. You are an artist of words and that is why your books draws us in and keeps us until then end. Then beg for more. You are not the only Author who has had this same kind of complaint lately. It takes time to polish the work so that it will shine! Keep on just as you do now. The faithful will keep following and reading your work.

  76. If people don’t like cliffhangers, maybe wait till all books are out before they read. For me, I have something to look forward to. I usually do a reread or relisten one after the other when the last ones come out.

  77. It’s a great book and I’m sorry there were complaints. I see I’m not alone expecting the ending would lead into Mirror. I do not want anything to get between me and JD, so keep writing your way. I also want to say that authors read other authors. Read some of them while your waiting for Nora’s next book, it can be rewarding too.

  78. I loved it from start to finish! I think it ended at the perfect spot!

  79. I have to share what my 92 year old mother had to say!
I read the book( loved it) and passed it to her…
When I reached the end of the last chapter…yes, I wanted more too, but I get it.
I gave the book to my mom & warned her when she reaches the end of the book she will wish the story would go on…and it will in Nov 2024.
She called me the next day to let me know she finished the book. I said what did you think? She uttered an explicative I never heard her say… “Nora sure writes a good story but as one of the characters said :f—!! I said MOM…whats up with that? ….and she said :”I’ll be 93 by November and will be mad if I’m not around for the end of the story!!!! “

    1. Lol! I love your mom’s comment and I bet Nora & Laura will also! May God bless her and keep her here for her to read that next book (and the one the following year). 😊

  80. Thank you, I had such fun with rereading and listening to Clover’s playlist. I did what another reader suggested and listed the pages of the songs. I’ve been walking each morning to the music. You are simply the best and whatever process you use brings such enjoyment that the wait will be worth it. Happy holidays!

  81. I am 82 yrs old, and have enjoyed the Roberts and Robb books for decades. I recently went back and reread many those written in the 80’s and early 90’s.
I will not read the new trilogy until the third book is published. I may die before that day, and do not want to be die wondering what happened!

  82. I wasn’t disappointed on where Inheritance ended. It was the perfect place & set up for book 2 very well. You are the writer. If I remember correctly you have addressed this issue several times. I have been reading your books for a while ,& the JD Robb Eve Dallas In Death series. There are authors who write series books every 2 years. It would be a sad day if you say enough & stop writing. It saddens me that people tell you how to write. You are very busy Ms. Roberts , it’s a shame that they just can’t enjoy the first part of a very fun story , take a years intermission until the second part of the story comes out, & the same for the the third. Good stories take time. I would think that if your stories were written by ChatGPT , your fans would be very upset because the quality would suck . ChatGPT sounds like something Roarke would invent . You have a wonderful gift for storytelling I ,& I am positive that a lot of other people are delighted that you share your gift with the world. Like any gift shared it is treasured. As long as you keep writing good stories I will be reading in book form. I plan to be around for a while. In another post I mentioned I had a heart attack in November 2021, I had picked up from the library the second book of the dragon series . As I was in the emergency room in Beth Israel in Boston Massachusetts I told myself I couldn’t die yet because I wanted to finish the series, & read the next JD Robb etc. I am here 2 years later having enjoyed Inheritance, took my time reading the story. Returned it to the library for the next person. Thank you, Ms Roberts you & Laura are both terrific

  83. I think what you do is amazing. I truly wish I had the talent. I have a love/hate relationship with your cliffhangers. I live how they end, but I am impatient and want it all. 🙃 I really enjoy how you bring things together. You are my favorite author and I’ll reread your books until the next comes out then repeat. Thank you.

  84. I wouldn’t care if I was 2years I’d be sad but I would wait for it I love your books soooo much and I was kinda shocked at the ending but then I’m thinking just let me live till the trilogy is finished 😂. At least I have 2 JD Robb and another Nora Roberts book to get me through till then and if I want more I just reread one of your other books. Love to you and yours

  85. I hope you will always write YOUR books exactly the way you choose! Your books have taken me to exotic places and to fabulous love stories! I admire the wit, the humor, the descriptions, the adventure, the characters and your style, I read your series as JDRobb, and your novels. Thank you for always moving the genres forward!!

  86. One other option is to just wait until all 3 books are out and then read them. I alway buy the newest book and then loan it to my sister to read. When I told her it was a cliffhanger, she said she would just wait until the 3rd one came out and then she would borrow all 3 at the same time.

  87. Am I disappointed at how the story ends? Not at all! Am I bummed that I have to wait a year to find out what happens next? Of course! It was the same between seasons of Game of Thrones, and between seasons of The Last Kingdom, and between installments of any number of books and shows I love. You keep doing you (because I’ve been reading your books since the 90’s and I don’t know what I’d do without them!) I’ll keep being a loyal fan who waits impatiently for the next, and the next, and the next…

  88. I loved the ending – leaving me anxiously awaiting the next book – and I’ll reread this one just before the next one comes out so I can pick up the story easily for that book Thank you for these wonderful stories that just pull me right in!

  89. I loved this book, even the ending. My anticipation for The Mirror will continue to grow day by day, I can’t believe people are complaining. Most people understand or should that there will be a cliffhanger going in, as it’s a trilogy. Your storylines, strong characters, development, execution remain consistent, book after book. Your imagination and hard work is always evident.
In my opinion you are incomparable and I love each and every book you write. Merry Christmas and Happy, Healthy New Year to you and your family(and to Laura & family).

  90. We are so lucky as readers to receive the gift of four books a year from Nora. People who have the nerve to try to tell her how and what to write are ridiculous.

  91. I have to say, I don’t understand the complaints of how a book ends or the story line and the characters. They don’t have your gift to write books. I have loved your books for a very long time , both as Nora and Robb. But I’m not going ask for them faster, because putting out four books a year is amazing. Other authors can only do one a year or longer. Your stories can draw me in so quickly. Nora, you do your process and don’t worry about the complainers. I did have a good laugh at Laura’s reaction on how the book ends (sorry Laura), I’m just starting to read Inheritance this weekend, I have to finish the two I’m reading now. You have a wonderful week.

  92. I’ve read Nora Robert’s books for decades! I reread them frequently.
Ignore the whiny and complaining readers. We love your writing and are very happy with four books a year!

  93. I just want to thank you Nora for the amazing stories that you gift us with. I will hope that you can just ignore all the demands for you to write faster or write more… I will continue to enjoy and feel blessed that you write what you do. And that I can reread your stories again and again and each time get a little bit more from them

  94. I actually really dislike cliffhangers, especially at the end of the TV season :-). And one author,I read, I stopped reading their books until a complete trilogy was out, because the story was so incomplete. So I was concerned when I saw all of the comments about this one ending on a cliffhanger but decided to go ahead (LOVED it). Perhaps because I was warned, I don’t know, the ending seemed natural and a good place for (this part of) the story to end. The entire story had been leading up to that point (or I should probably say the entire 1/3 of the story that we have read).

PS thanks for the brief view of the publishing process.

  95. You do you. I am in awe of your creativity and your imagination and your ability to always tell such a good story. Your characters are memorable your stories engaging and your plots are always interesting. If folks complain, so be it. We are an impatient lot, but will wait (maybe not so patiently!) for EACH NEXT BOOK. Pay no attention to those who complain. The rest of us will wait. for you. on your schedule.

  96. Hugs to you Nora and to Laura. Sorry you have people making demands, et al. Instead of just enjoying and accepting. I have delayed starting Inheritance but will in next few days. Life does happen and has to for balance
I’m so grateful for your writing and wonderful stories. Sorry for the harassment you are receiving. Most of us just enjoy all you do. Many thanks. Enjoy your holidays.

  97. Nora,
I consider all your books a gift to myself. Anyone who knows me well know if there’s a NR or JD ROBB new release not to engage me in anything important because my mind is either on the book or counting the hours until I can get back to it. God bless me with a daughter that understands this even at an early age. Nora you do what you do and you do it well. I appreciate you and your talent. I have a whole lot of authors that I read but yours are the only books I WILL drop everything to read. Go to work with only a couple of hours of sleep and be happy the entire day because you took me to a different world. The stories are always amazing!

  98. I was expecting something unusual after reading a post that Laura had put on Facebook and was not in any way disappointed. It obviously left me wanting more but I know I won’t get it until next year. Just means that I get to re-read it prior to The Mirror coming out. I wish people wouldn’t be so rude as to assume that you will change how you write to suit them. The process is what it is and people just need to get over themselves and deal with it.

  99. However you write these marvelous books is your business. Keep writing. I love them all. Thanks

  100. What part of trilogy don’t they get? It doesn’t end until the last book. I am a big reader as I guess most of Nora’s fans are. So my “to be read” pile is high. I am betting all these “can’t wait” people have the same kind of big pile of books to read waiting for them. So just keep going through the pile and before you know it book 2 will be out. Simple solution and it’s always worth the wait…..always!!

  101. Thank you for your amazing books! Your characters pull me in, and the story carries me away. Trilogies, stand alones, In Deaths, happy endings, cliffhangers … I’ll take them all and enjoy every moment (including the anticipation of waiting for the next book). As long as you write it, Nora, I’ll be in line to buy it, and so grateful for the chance to be carried away again. Many, many thanks!

  102. Nora, I have to say I loved the ending. I thought it was a perfect place to stop. I also have to say I’m tired of the endless complaints on social media. Having been a loyal fan of you and your books for decades I think if these so-called followers of your books appreciated your hard work as much as we longtime readers do, they would just appreciate when a new book comes out. I hate for you how you have to take the time to explain your way of writing. Just my 2 cents. Take care, and may you, Laura and your families have a wonderful and safe holiday season. Enjoy your time with your families.

  103. This is why—as hard as it is on me—I wait until the final book release before enjoying (devouring) the trilogy. Saves on the angst but adds to the anticipation. Love the worlds of Nora’s (and J D Robb’s) imagination. Thank you!

  104. Inheritance was amazing and I loved it. Never change. Never stop writing for us!
I just wish sometimes that it was back in the day (many years ago) when I picked up a paperback of Midnight Bayou and couldn’t put it down, then to my joyous surprise realized that there were SO MANY books for me to read!
Waiting for your trilogies and stand-alones is like waiting for my birthday and Christmas.

  105. I’m always expecting your next explaining the process will be a cut and paste from one of the previous times, inserted as is. You and Laura’s patience is amazing. I got the audio this time (excellent narrator) and when I realized it was coming to a stopping place, I thought “uh oh” and sure enough, that was it. I didn’t pitch a fit (my gran’s favorite term), just sat and thought about the story and how it didn’t just pull me in – it flung me in! I made a note in my date book to start looking for the pub date next autumn and moved on.. I’m lucky enough to live in a country where I have many, many books to read – whatever I choose, whenever I choose. One of those books is your latest In Death coming soon. I loved Inheritance, and marveled at the amount of research you must have done. Your attention to detail – in all your books – often send me off to do some research of my own, I’ve learned a lot from your stories. Wishing you and Laura the best of holidays. Stay safe.

  106. Well huge HUGS for Nora and Laura and families and team. This reader is just plain happy you all do what you do. And in so many different genres. All absolutely WOW! As to pleasing ‘all the people etc’ – make more soup and hug family instead💖😀

  107. I am most appreciative that you continue to create these complex characters and stories and share them with us. Thank you!

  108. Nora thank for an incredible book. Of course I had an AAAARRRGGGH! moment when I hit the end. Sort of like Marco but more profound. The book ended where it needed to end. I am just grateful that you can produce four quality books per year. Thank you for all the countless hours you spend making it happen.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you, Bruce and all the kids.

  109. I loved the ending. It was perfect.
People have to realize that you are not a machine who sits in front of a computer and writes for hours every day.
Inheritance was one of my favorite books that I have read this year. Loved it.
    Thank you and happy holidays.

  110. I loved Inheritance!!!! However, going in, I knew there would be a cliffhanger. I am baffled at the readers that don’t get that. Did I want the next one immediately? Yes. However, that’s the way it works. I throughly enjoyed it and I thank you for sharing your talent with us. Looking very forward to The Mirror.

  111. You keep on with your creative brilliance and I will keep reading, and re-reading, as they are published. Thank you for all the decades of reading pleasure. Hope your holidays are fantastic with your family.

  112. Loved, loved, loved the book!! I have a general question: I found a couple of typos. Do authors (you) want to know about them or is it too late to correct?
Keep writing! I’ll keep reading! ♥️

  113. I love the way you ended it and look for more of the same for the next 2 books!

  114. I, too, wish they would come out closer together, however, since they don’t, I get to read the first and second ones AGAIN right before the next comes out, so it’s fresh in my mind!!

I am a HUGE fan and have read EVERY book you’ve ever published!! Now, I’m re-reading them over and over. I’ve actually read the entire In Death series FOUR times!!

    They NEVER get old!!

  115. If a person knows herself (as I do), she knows not to read book one in a NR trilogy until all three books have been released…don’t let the haters get you down, Ms. Nora. Keep doing you.

  116. So many writers leave series on cliffhangers. You’re nothing on this compared to Sarah J. Maas! Ignore the haters. So many of us appreciate you!

  117. You’d think by now that readers would a) understand how this works, and b) not feel entitled to make demands such as ‘write faster’ or to be rude when they’re unhappy with a book. Like writers exist just for that reader’s pleasure. Get real, people! lol

  118. LOVE this book. I can’t wait to read it again before the next installment! The cliffhanger ending is perfect. You keep doing you, Nora. I have been a fan for a long time, so there are plenty of your books to read and re-read while we wait for the next one. Take care of you and your family. That is ultimately what comes first. Rome wasn’t built in a day…

  119. I adored Inheritance and thought it ended at the best spot. Yes I wish that the Mirror was out yesterday, but I don’t believe that my wishes count when it comes to the writing, editing, and publishing a book. Those that do are simply entitled and immature. I look forward to reading any of the books you will share, but I also acknowledge the fact that I have to wait for the lovely work.
    Thanks for sharing.
    Jennifer

  120. Anyone who has read your trilogy knows it will be a year till the next one. I was just shocked at the cliffhanger in book one but know I will wait for the next one and read your other books out before. This new book is one of your best and you have so many. Thank you again for caring to explain to people even though you don’t have to.

  121. I completely enjoyed the book, including the ending. As a reader, I appreciate being able to use my imagination and ponder where the story might go, and although I’m almost always wrong with my guesses, it gives my brain something to noodle on until the next book comes out. I also appreciate that when Nora says a series is done, it’s done—some writers don’t know how to wrap things up and end them and the story goes on past all possible interest in the original characters. Thanks for many hours of reading (and wine drinking) pleasure! Yes I read and drink haha.

  122. I love your books and enjoy and reread them! I respect your process and appreciate the quality and high level of your stories and characters. So sorry that some readers are petty and demanding! Sending hugs and thanks for your beautiful work!!! 🥰🥰🥰

  123. Thank you, Nora, for the amazing stories that you tell. I’ve read every one of your books over and over and I love them all. I’m so excited for The Mirror to learn what happens next. Do we wish you wrote faster? Of course we do, but I would hope everyone understands you’re a human being with a life and not a robot changed to her desk (although you may feel like one some days). Hope you have a very Merry Christmas and a healthy, happy and prosperous New Year!

  124. Nora and Laura, I just want to say well said and done! I am never disappointed in your endings! Too many years enjoying, reading and becoming immersed in your characters too complain about waiting for the next book! And after these many years, have schooled myself too slow down and enjoy your books over a minimum of 3 days! Besides with all your books I just go back and reread some of my favorites as I wait for a new one!
Thank you for the many years of sheer joy, terror, suspense and tears! Until the next one, thank you again!!

  125. Wow, I really do just love your books. I think we’re a little spoiled as readers and we don’t always realize it or maybe don’t appreciate it enough. I know the wining about the ending was supposed to be a compliment, and I even chuckled as I read some goofy complaints…but as a lot of things do…it got out of hand as more people “complained”… and it took on a life of it’s own unfortunately…..I guess the “instant gratification” that people are used to has not done us many favors… What happened to being able to relish something? Oh well…

Nora, you’re just a special writer. and you provide so much entertainment for us that I think we really do take it for granted some times… I’m probably not alone in the circumstance that it has been hard to find another writer that I like as much as you…it’s the writing. Though I just started listening to Gordon Carroll’s Gil Mason Series and I really like it….but guess what? There is in no way as much work available as you put out!…see, we’re spoiled… LOL! I am also in the process of re-reading the Chronicles of the One. It just hit me how awesome that series really was.

Don’t worry about the complaints… or even give them credibility…complainers are always going to complain…

Here’s praying that you ( Nora & Laura) and your family/loved ones have a very wonderful, happy and healthy Christmas and New Years!

  126. It was a good read but based on publishing timeline and storyline, I’ll probably leave this trilogy alone until all books are published. I don’t want to keep rereading the previous book to remind myself where we left off.

  127. I have to say I have been reading Nora since her Silhouette days. I am enjoying Inheritance. Love the new title for #2 it only makes sense. Needless to say I always want more but none of the other authors that I read (I read a lot I am a certified book nerd) are as prolific as Nora. I don’t know of any that put out 4 books a year and that each book is different. I do have one question and I know it’s probably been addressed. Who comes up with the quotes in Nora’s books?

    1. I do. I want the quotes to connect to the story, or that part of the story.

      1. You do very well at it! You used a quote from Victor Hugo years ago, I think in Tribute but I won’t swear to it:
        “Change your opinions, Keep to your principles;
Change your leaves, Keep intact your roots”

I have used it ever since on my email signature; it reminds me, and I hope others, that we can change opinions, don’t have to be blindly rockblind to them! Thank You!

  128. I think you are very patient, maybe too much so. I enjoy the additional complexity of your stories – Keep it up! And, as annoying as they are to you I also enjoy these posts. You provide insight into the process of a writer which is so interesting . The dive into the publishing process after the first draft is submitted makes total sense, however i never really thought about all of the steps. Thanks.

I am a fiber artist. Sometimes critiques turn into “helpful advice”. I appreciate help identifying where the work can be stronger just don’t tell me how to do it!

  129. The Chronicles of the One taught me that in some cases patience pays off. I collected the 3 books and then started. Read each book with a ‘palate cleanser’ in between, one after the other. As I get older I find this works best for my memory.

  130. As always, Nora, I enjoy your writing. I enjoy the actual wait for the next edition or the next book….you never disappoint. You amaze me and I admire your never-ending imagination into all things futuristic, magic, or real life saga’s.

I think the majority of us “Nora followers” respect the amount of time it takes for you to write so many different types of books and the process behind each and every one of them.

Wishing you, Laura, & your families a very Merry Christmas & hope that the New Year brings peace and love to our World- we need it!

  131. People honestly need to take a chill pill sometimes! To get upset over something like this is ridiculous! If you do not want to wait for the next story, then do not read the first book until you have all three in hand…keep it simple, stupid. We have become such a demanding, ungrateful society. We want everything now and have no time to wait. Very sad.
I love your books and after reading Year One and realizing it was going to be another year before Of Blood and Bone came out, I reread Year One to remind myself of what was going on because I had read other books in the meantime and wanted my memory fresh and then, I waited to read Of Blood and Bone until The Rise of Magicks had come out and reread Year One AGAIN, lol. It did not bother me to wait and I am so sorry people are so rude. I get that they are excited about the new books but what do they think a trilogy is? You just keep doing what you do, Nora! I have Inheritance and I am waiting to read it and The Mirror until I have all three. Thank you for keeping us all entertained! My two hours on my elliptical is my “me” time and that is the only time I have time to read so it takes me longer than others to get through a book but it makes the time go by faster while I am dying on the machine, lol!

  132. With your trilogies (or four, as in the case of the Bride’s Quartet), I get them, set them aside. Then, when the last one is in the mail (thank you, TTP), I begin to read. And since it’s around the holidays, no matter the subject of the books, I always feel warmed and happy that you write the way you do. Makes my holidays that much more fun: lying in the tub, glass o’ wine at the ready, bubbles everywhere, reading Nora.

No, the big tragedy here would be if you didn’t share your books. They’re yours, and we who love them (and you) are grateful. Bright blessings on you this holiday season. You too, Laura!

  133. Bravo Nora! Do what you do and I for one will read! True fans will respect your process and just enjoy the results. Carry on.

  134. Nora, you are one of the most prolific writers, and I appreciate all the effort, time, creativity that goes into your stories. We get 4 books a year from you when most authors give us one a year or every 2-3 years. You are the one author I reread and then read again. As to the cliff hanger; sure, I want to keep on reading but I am anticipating the next book. Thank you for all you do!

  135. I love everything you write and the ending made perfect sense to me. You are the only author who’s books will remain on my TBR list no matter how many times I’ve read them. And how lucky are we that we get 4 books a year? The luckiest!! I am among the fans who are grateful that you share your talent and stories with us. Happy Holidays to you, Laura and your families.

  136. Nora, if by chance you see this, please know that your work is incredible. I value and treasure your stories so very much. I’ve read your books for YEARS- since I was an older teen to now in my thirties, I love them, my mom loves them. I also absolutely love the different genres you write, they are incredible. DON’T let the negativity effect you or get you down, please, just know there are readers out there that love your writing so very much and will stand by you however your work comes out. Please keep doing YOU and have a wonderful holiday season!

  137. I have enjoyed every book you’ve written. Some I love. Actually I love alit of them.
You’re the writer I’m the reader. I read to enjoy and that I do. Thank you for the great books.
    Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

  138. I read fast. Sometimes too fast. But every time I read one of Nora’s books, I go back and read it again. And I find that there is always something that I may have missed, and it gives a whole new feel for the story. Different moods change how my brain interprets the story, so it’s almost like having a bonus chapter. So, please keep doing what you do and how you do it. Your stories are worth it!

  139. I loved Inheritance. Was I upset by the ending, yes, of course. For a moment, like we are all when we reach the end of any brilliant book! I cannot wait for The Mirror! That ending makes you even more excited for the next one. It was an amazing story, with an amazing ending. You are the creator of that story. You do not owe the reader Anything! I trust you, you always give us an amazing story. I love your books, especially your trilogies!!

  140. For me, a big key is that it’s clear it’s a trilogy. You read a book that says it’s book one of a trilogy, you should expect that not everything will be neatly wrapped up. I once read a book that did not indicate anywhere on the cover or the material in front of the book that it was the first book of a trilogy. It was really annoying to read what I thought was a stand alone and get to the end and it it basically cuts off in the middle with a note that the story will continue in a not-yet-published book. Ugh! Very different if I know it’s not a stand alone.

  141. I have never commented ever, anywhere.
Also, my comment below is NOT about the cliffhanger ending of the book as I had no issues with it whatsoever.
With that said, I just want to say THANK YOU to Nora Roberts.
I read many genres of books but most of them are series. I am loyal to many of these authors but the wait between books can be truly painful.
To have an author who is prolific, timely, and really, really good at multiple genres can’t be praised enough.
Authors, imo, are artists and please themselves first. Pleasing us is a by product that certainly helps both their pocket book and ability to continue to do what they love and makes them happy.
I also specifically want to thank Nora for writing strong female leads. In a world which IMO often still treats women as 2nd class citizens it’s nice to pick up books where they are competent and beyond.
So there you have it my first ever and probably last post. Thanks Nora for sharing your creativity and passion for telling fabulous stories with us!! I hope you continue for many years to come.

    1. I totally agree with you, could you recommend some other writers who write in a similar way? I enjoy Nora, Iris Johansen a lot as well.
      Thank you and happy holidays.

    2. My dad passed last night. I’m not a big believer in “woo woo” but when I said my goodbyes yesterday, I told him it was ok to go, just wait until my brother got there to say goodbye. My brother did get there and spent an hour or so. About 1/2 hour after that, dad passed. So maybe, I believe in “woo woo” a little bit now.

Dad will always be with me, just the shell is gone.

Thank you to all of those who have taken the time to send me positive thoughts and kind words. Truly I never expected any of you to do so. Thank you!!! ❤️

      1. Keeping you and the rest of his and your family in my prayers and thoughts. I know this is so hard at any time of the year, but especially around the holidays. I hope that the wonderful memories you have of you Dad help get you through this hard time. I miss my parents everyday but I am now able to smile and even laugh at some of the best times we had with them.

      2. Michele, I just wanted to reach out and tell you how sorry I am about your dad’s passing. I know how it feels. Take care of yourself.

  142. Since your post made my day—after a long work day, a hard workout—I hope it’s not your last post!

    1. Nora, I never expected a reply. I’m glad I made your day! My dad is in hospice and I said my goodbyes today. I’m very sad right now. Your kindness in taking the time to answer my post brightened my day. Thank you. Oh and I just pre-ordered the next in death audiobook. Something else that will help ease my grief. Thanks again. M.

      1. I am so sorry about your Dad Michele. I lost mine in 2016 and my Mom in 2019 and I miss them everyday. Sending prayers to you and your family, especially during the holidays.

      2. It’s so hard to lose a parent. I hope you find solace in many good memories.

      3. I am sorry about your Dad Michele.
I lost my Dad last year. Miss him very much. Especially during festivals and special occasions. This year we were blessed with a grandson and I wish my Dad could see him.
You and your family are in my prayers. Take care.

  143. Heads up – on the Audible audio version of the book, the Author’s note was not included. (It’s listed as being between opening credits and dedication, but the recording simply goes directly from credits to dedication.). I reported to Audible also.

Loved the book – can’t wait for The Mirror! And I hope I’ll get to hear Nora’s note! 🙂

    1. Audible reported the issue was fixed. To access the updated audio, you should connect to wifi and refresh the audiobook in your library.

If that doesn’t work, could you email me at LMReeth@gmail.com and I will report to Macmillan Audio? Thanks. -Laura

  144. I am currently listening to “Inheritance”, I love it and I am sure I will feel like WTF at the end. But I would never ever think to blame Nora for it. This happens all the time in books, films and so on. I love Nora’s books, JD Robb’s books as well. I am appalled that people in this day and age feel entitled to everything right now…. I am sorry because I hope she know millions of readers adore her and are polite and patient.
Looking forward to the next book.
    Happy holidays,
    Ana

  145. As soon as I finished the book first thought was Oh boy!!! Here we go again. The end will surely create hullabaloo . I was not disappointed. We have to wait for a year for second part ? So what ? Big deal!!!
It’s not end of the world. Quality takes time people.

  146. I don’t know why readers don’t trust the writer to know what she’s doing. Especially a writer who has been doing this as long and as well as you have. Would I like to have the next book in my hot little hand right now? Well, duh. Do I expect to have the next book in my hot little hand right now? Um, so no.

  147. Dear Nora,
I’ve been reading your books for over 30 years, and I’ve read everything twice, some, like the Calhouns, 4 times. Then I started a collection of your books for my library. My point is, I’m a HUGE fan!! And feel disgust that you were put in the position of explaining your process to an entitled faction of readers who are making you feel their selfish demands. Was I disappointed by being made to wait…yes but that’s my issue, not yours, and your work is worth the wait. Please know you’re loved, JUST THE WAY YOU ARE!!!

  148. Criticism and whining…..please don’t write any more explanations to these people..there are enough true fans who will leave the writing to you and appreciate all the work involved with your gift. Good health and success in 2024!

  149. When I read any of your books I am so engrossed in the book everything around me goes away. I am on a mission of reading every book that you have written. I truly hate to hear that fans of your books are complaining about anything that you write or how you write it. I have no complains just love lots and lots of love for every book I have read that you written. I will never stop reading your books.

  150. I haven’t read this book yet so I skinned over half of this talking about the ending. Your May and November books are always presents from my husband (one autographed and one to read) bc my birthday is in June and then Christmas. I will say chronicles of the one and the awakening series both needed a fourth book but I completely understand that you do trilogies for a reason. I’m a dedicated fan and hope to God you eventually go back to in person meet and greets so I can die happy meeting my all time favorite author I have two LARGE shelves that are 2-3 books deep of all the books I own of yours. I give away books from other authors I read. I only keep yours.

  151. Keep to what works for you Nora and I’ll continue to enjoy the fruits of your labour. Your books are such a treat for me..I like to save them for this time of the year to end the year with an excellent book and start the new year with an excellent book!

  152. Please just keep writing. Although you share it with us, it’s TOUR work, and it’s always amazing! Thank you for providing us such enjoyment over so many years. I truly do appreciate the opportunity to “fall into the story” every single time! Happy holidays!

  153. Nora, I have been a fan a very long time and will be a fan till I die. For those who are impatient and like only to complain, find another book. She has written so many great works over the years and if you have read them all, re-read your favorite series or title. I find myself doing that these days when I have forgotten that I already read it, but still enjoyed it a second, third or forth time.
Thank you again Nora for all these years of great writing.

    Nichole

  154. I loved the way you ended Inheritance! It was unexpected and for me, it increases the anticipation for the next book. 😊 I also wanted to say that Clover’s mix on Spotify is fantastic! Great choice of songs and boy, do those songs bring back many, many memories! 😉 Thank you for what you do, it’s an art and being a painter and quilter, I understand the long hours you put in to get the story right! Stay true to your journey, Nora!

  155. Thank you for this! I’ve always been curious about how long it takes and what all the steps are between the point you are done writing the first draft and we get the finished book in our hands! Please don’t ever take our joking whiney remarks as complaints – there is a reason you are one of my favorite authors. You take time and the caring and hard work you put into your books always shows. And I truly appreciate it. You keep doing you and we will keep enjoying (and yes, probably whining a little! But just to let you know we are excited for the next chapter!). Thank you again!

  156. This is why I wait until the trilogy is completed so I can read one book after the other. I have always loved your trilogies!

  157. I’m an In Death fan through and through, but your comments made me curious about this trilogy. What I found kind of funny, at least to me, is that the rhythm of your speech is similar to Eve Dallas’. For a moment I thought Eve was writing “Here is the deal”.

  158. I LOVE your writing and have no complaints about how you ended the first of 3. These books are your works of art and as you stated take time, you have a life like everyone else. Thank you for continuing to gift us with your wonderful work!

  159. I purposefully stretch out reading book 1 to make it last longer. I read it in a week lol. I respect the process but at 74 I hope I’m still alive for the end of the trilogy

  160. If the book answered all questions and didn’t end on a cliffhanger, there would be no story for the next two books. I read the book in a day as I do with most books. It was great. I had a great time reading it, and it left me wanting more. Isn’t that the purpose of a book? People need to learn patience and empathy. Authors can’t be chained to their computers just so readers can get their stories faster.

  161. I have a 2 year old and a 1 year old so right niw I listen to books because I don’t have time to sit and read. With that being said I believe that Inheritance is my new favorite. I love all that you have written (I even named my oldest Parker, because of your character Parker Brown) but this was just captivating. I can not wait for the second and third books to come out in this trilogy. You are an amazing author thank you for all you have accomplished in your career.

  162. I think in my review I stated I hadn’t read a book you had done that ended in a cliffhanger like this book, and when a couples story concludes without the backstory I don’t think that’s a cliffhanger, but I had not read the Dragon Heart Legacy trilogy. I have now and they end in cliffhangers too. I am not a fan of cliffhangers but I think this book ended perfectly.
I want to say thank you. I have been reading your books since I was a teenager (I’m in my 40’s) and I have never been disappointed in a book you have written. I have even turned my daughter into a fan.
Do I wish that we got more books in a year, YES, I’d be crazy not to. I also know writing takes incredible time. I am sure that the prosses could be speed up, but I think quality would suffer. I personally would rather have less but better. So again thank you for taking your time and giving us great books instead of hasty, terribly written stories. That is how you always get a one click from me as soon as you put them on presale.
FYI, this took me 30 minutes to write and it’s just a comment. Couldn’t imagine how long a book would take me. LOL.

  163. I loved the WTH ending. Always thankful for Nora’s incredible talent. Patiently waiting for all the 2024 releases.

  164. I’m not a fan of cliff hangers, but I respect and understand your reasoning and really have no problem with the method or the style.

My only wish is that I would have read the reviews prior to starting Inheritance. If I had done that, I would have waited for the third book in the trilogy to be completed (or close to it) before I started the first. I hate investing in a story, only to be told I have to wait a year or two before I can complete it.

This being said, I’ve read and loved almost every book you’ve written – as Nora and as JD Robb – not something I would say to many authors!

  165. To my Dear Nora. To hell with everyone that demands more yesterday or is upset over this or that. Yes, there are story lines that I wish could and would go on forever, but its not my place to decide if or when it will or could happen. Frankly I wish I had just a fraction of the talent that you have. I have 90% of the books you have written. There are very few authors that I read besides yours. I honestly don’t know how you have and continue to do what you do. So here’s a heartfelt pat on the back from me to you and keep up the great work!!

  166. I love The Inheritance. And yes I wish you would write the trilogy faster…I’m one of your older fans and I’d really like to know how the story ends in case I end before it! Not trying to be morbid and I know you and the publisher doing everything you can to write/publish a quality product!

  167. I never complain, I have read Nora from the beginning. Just keep on writing! I love them all, cannot pick favorites as they change between Nora and J D.

  168. What you said is so very well put. And very correct we currently live In a world where there is so much immediate gratification. That people forget that Authors are real life people. We all need to slow down from time to time and enjoy what we have.

  169. Definitely not complaining. I have been gobbling up your stories since I was ten. ( My mother started it. ) I own every book ever written by you as Nora and JD. My kids make fun of me as I go through “Nora Roberts” phases and they will find me curled up with well worn Nora Roberts books that they know I have read before several times. They ask me why I do that and I reply revisiting old friends. But I swear the latest series, I have fallen hard for the characters you create and with Inheritance, I have already read it 5 times since it came out. I not only love the alive characters but the ghosts as well. Fantastic Job as always and you just keep getting better and better for me.

  170. Happy Holidays! I’ve been wanting to tell you for a couple of years now how much I enjoy your writing, both as Nora Roberts and JD Robb. Even though I wish you could write every day (LOL) I totally understand that it’s a process on your end as well as the editing and publishing. It can be frustrating sometimes when I’m wrapped up in the story and I have to wait for the next (we are an instant gratification world these days, unfortunately.), however I for one can wait because your stories are so well written. Thank you for the gift – each one is worth the wait!!

    1. I do write every day!! LOL. I still can’t write as fast as you read.

  171. The ending was unexpected – but the unexpected add spice to life. I have to say I’ve been reading Nora’s books since 1990 & since then she (& J.D. Robb) are the authors I keep coming back too. A big part of that is that her books deliver unexpected plot twists on a regular basis. Thanks Nora/J.D Robb for writing such wonderful books that bring me joy & have also served as an escape during various parts of my life.
Wishing your & your team a happy Christmas & a wonderful New Year

  172. I read my first book written by you when I was 14. All the Possibilities, published in 1985. I still have that copy. It had a designated hidey hole in my bookshelf when I was an teenager and has been with me everywhere. It’s faded, the cover is now held on by tape, but it’s the first time I fell in love with your writing and I have been a fan since. I literally own every book that’s ever been published by you whether it’s JD Robb or Nora Roberts. Not each version, mind you, but if I could get my hands on the original copy, then I have it. I can’t imagine being a reader that demands more than what you give. Your output of books is already above average. While I’m appreciative of your posts, I’m sorry that you had to take a break out of your day to write this kind of message. Whatever you feel like writing, I’m there for it. If you want to leave me hanging, I’m there for it. I’m there for ALL of it. Thank you for sharing your gift with us. Happy Holidays to your staff, you and your family!

  173. Thank you for your continued dedication to your writing. Im reading the Robb series for th 6th time…take your time…have some tea…enjoy.

  174. When I finished Inheritance , my exact words were Wow Wow Wow!!!! You think for a minute a whole year, but then I said to myself something exciting to look forward to in the coming year. I have been reading Nora since the silhouette days I’m happy to wait because there’s a JD coming up then there’s another Nora then there’s another J D, and then Book 2 The Mirror . Thank you so much Nora for all your amazing books.

  175. I got Inheritance for Christmas Eve and am still reading. Forcing myself to make it last a bit. The only issue I have is the typo/mistakes that managed to get missed. I know Nora addressed this in her post, but I have always found the books to be relatively mistake/typo free. Not so in this one. The main issue I had was with the dog’s name. It keeps going from Yoda to Yoga and back. Just wanted to put a bug in someone’s ear to maybe try to keep an eye out for this in the next 2 books. Aside from this, I am enjoying the book immensely.

    1. Yes, I did address it, as honestly as possible. What and how I addressed doesn’t change. We all missed what we missed. Obviously, my editor, my copy editor, the proofreader and I DO try to keep an eye out.

Why wouldn’t we, as none of us want typos to get through?

      What else can I say?

  176. Is it just me or do people complain about everything, have some patience, it’s ended on a high note of excitement for the next book……..and seriously, complaining about typo’s. We live in a very sad unperfect world. Get a life all of you that have complained and let the woman write. Have some patience. Love every book ever written, am also trying to collect every book. Wish i had half your talent.

  177. To me, Nora’s books are like Fine Wine or Great Sex, worth waiting for. Inheritance is superb.

  178. This used to be a fun place. Now it seems like every other post is a complaint of some kind.

    1. The 46 posts this year have ranged in topic from Nora’s garden and home updates to In Death teasers and book discussions to the multi-week Cozumel travelogue.

This particular post was in reply to a comment that dismissively said Nora’d gotten to a point in Inheritance and “was done writing.” My own post about The First Reaction was to share the community in how we all closed Inheritance after a fun ride.

I’ve said this before but it bears repeating: This blog is the space where Nora and I share our thoughts. On the whole it’s a happy place — Nora and I work hard to make it so. Sometimes though, we have to dig down and address things directly, from the heart. And then we move along.

      Laura

  179. Like Laura, I feel there’s been a lot of fun on the blog this year. The two weeks in Cozumel was nothing but fun. And yeah, gardening. Holidays, cooking and so on.

But if I don’t share my honest thoughts when reader complaints and comments come up, what’s the point? If I ignore them, I’m not listening, arrogant. If I address them, I’m bitchy.

    Tough to win!

We’re on the cusp on a new year, and I hope there’s a lot of happy in 2024.

    1. Cheers to a happy healthy new year to all…and looking forward to what Nora’s creativity will have in store for us! 🙂

    2. Please count me in as one of the NO COMPLAINTS HERE group. I could never thank you enough for the entertainment pleasure I’ve got from you over the last *mumble* years. I don’t often comment but now & then I simply must THANK YOU Nora. Thanks to you too Laura! Happy New Year to all.

  180. Just finished it. Yes, the ending was a surprise, but I do understand why! Thank you for all the wonderful stories you share with us.

  181. To Nora and/or Laura, I promise (hand on heart) that I did all the research I could think of before giving up and writing this. By way of explanation, I learned years ago that if an author mentions another author in a book, it’s probably something I’d like to read. I’ve got favorites, but since I was already reading that favorite, then I should try the other, right? I’ve found so many new authors to follow this way. Sooooo, when “Rabbit Hole” was mentioned in Inheritance, I marked it down to find once I’d finished inhaling that story. This is how I keep myself occupied while awaiting a new story from an already beloved source. Well, so far, I’ve found nine (9!!) books named only “Rabbit Hole”, all of them by individual writers (cue in crossed eyes here), all within a fairly recent time frame. I’m sooooo tempted to make a joke about multiplying rabbits, but no. If you could take pity on me and give me the author’s name, I’d be grateful. Thanks for sharing your gift of another great story, I could nearly see the Manor and the town.

  182. I just made up the title. It’s not an actual book, just a made-up thing for the story.

  183. I loved the ending! It made me laugh right out loud. I will not need to refresh my memory when the 2nd book comes out. I will know exactly where we left Sonya and Owen. Nice job Nora. I love your style!

  184. I was keeping track of the percent of my reading in my Kindle. I was surprised to reach around 95% but didn’t feel like there would be a resolution in the story—at least in the style that I was used to in most of Nora’s trilogies in the past. Then I recalled that a while back Nora wrote about how she was changing how she wrote a trilogy (forgot for which it was) and I thought perhaps it was going to be like that for this one. The cliffhanger ending was rather jarring, but it made me all the more hungry for what comes next. I had been making speculations about a lot of the things in the story—the mirror, the twin thing, the brides thing, the ghosts… and in a weird way it’s fun to not have a finished story just yet.

Sidenote, I would love to have a ghost like Molly and Jack haunting my house. I could definitely use the help in chores, and my dogs would love the playmate, lol.

  185. Inheritance was the perfect book for me. My daughter gave it to me for Christmas. She really knows her mother! The book had everything I love to read, the big manor on the cliff, the sexy boyfriend, the dogs but most of all the ghosts! The setting of the book needs to be somewhere I would live myself and I have to feel like I can get lost in and be a part of the story myself for it to be a great book for me and I absolutely loved Inheritance. I was ready to go raid our public library for book 2 until I realized it’s not out yet. So sad but so happy it’s coming!! I’ve been a huge fan of Nora Roberts for years and love so many of her stories. I’m going to read again the Black Dahlia series again while I wait for book 2 of her newest. Take your time and work your magic! I will be here ready and waiting for the next book. Thank you for the wonderful stories I am privileged to be a part of. Happy writing so your readers will be happy reading!

  186. I enjoyed this book even more than I expected. Regarding the ending and the wait until the next book, well, you publish multiple books every year instead of just one like most of my other favorite authors. So thank you for all the great reads!

  187. Gotta say, WOW!
I’ve been saving this book for just a weekend like we had this past weekend.
I knew from some of the remarks, the ending would be a doozy, and it was.
We got The Inheritance, this part of the story was done, i feel like that’swhy it stoppedwhere it did, and now we’ll get The Mirror.
    Awesome!

  188. Not upset at the cliffhanger. Loved it (actually) after I got over the momentary surprise. Thank you Nora for writing these intricate, heartfelt books. I’m very much looking forward to The Mirror to carry on the story.

I read and listened as time permitted. Loved the narrator too.

P.S. Don’t apologize for not working faster. You do you and we will all appreciate it. Thanks again.
