Today Fury in Death is finally out in the US. I know some readers outside the US read it last week, but I waited until today to open this discussion space.
A reminder of the official description:

I’ve said a couple of times that Fury leapt into my top 3 In Deaths when I read it last fall. What did you think?

I absolutely agree with your ranking. It’s in my top three as well. The things that made it stand out for me: the perfect blend of the case with the slice of life moments. An antagonist who was sympathetic. Eve’s character growth from Naked in Death to Fury has been stunning, and oh so beautifully handled. This isn’t the same troubled and lonely introvert we first met way back when, I mean, she’s still as brilliant and still as much a smartass (thank god) but oh man, the growth, she definitely feels more settled and just overall more happy and it’s visceral. The moments between her and Roarke were, as ever, moving, romantic and sweet. Their chemistry is as wonderful as ever. Also Galahad being best boy was such a great and fantastic moment, the little snitch, lol. It was also heartwarming to see how far Eve and Summerset have come, he knew exactly how to maneuver her into accepting medical care, exactly the tone she preferred to be soothed. It was honestly the first time I thought that Summerset has actually grown to care for Eve for herself, and not just because they both love Roarke. Not even Bonded gave that vibe (thought I loved it). And the house warming party and birth was simultaneously hilarious and heartwarming. Truly a special series of moments with found family. All of that catapulted Fury to one of the best. It had everything. Thank you, Nora, for the incredible ride!
Only Mavis! This was one of my favorites… Great story and love the families coming in for the patty! Boy was Peabody granny a surprise. Felt really sad for Steve from the beginning.
I felt the same, everyone feels settled. The growth from Eve has been heartwarming. The scene between Summerset and Eve in her office and later in one of Maviss rooms during the housewarming with Trina showed the growth and patience Eve has had. Even Peabody seemed to be more “adult” this book, still her, but grown and yes settled. One of the few cases where we can empathize with the murderer, I did want more bad ass Eve in the”box”. I just love those scenes… it’s one of the places she really shines!
I fear the scene is being set for the eventuality we all know will come sooner or later. I hope not too soon as idk if I’m emotionally im ready. I’m greatful for the wonderful ‘In Death’ universe Nora has given us . Susan Erikson has been the most amazing narrator, shes brought the characters to life like I dont know that anyone else could.
The scene’s not being set to end the series. Honestly, where does this come from? Nothing in this book points toward ending it. I’ve already written the next two, and am currently writing the one after that. Some of you really shouldn’t try to anticipate me wrapping this up. Just relax and enjoy them as they come.

Also, how come one of the executives has a coordinator and assistant, while another has one person who does both?

Got the hardcover a couple of hours ago and ran into a problem with the QR code on the inside of the dust jacket. It wouldn’t scan like all the others and I don’t know if that’s because of a printing error at the shop.
Haven’t had a chance to read it yet, but I agree with the prior poster about the Illuminati/Priory of Sion/Da Vinci Code style plots. IMHO, they’re readable, but they don’t go on my “re-read any chance I get” list. That’s saved for Brotherhood in Death, Celebrity in Death, Big Jack, and Creation in Death.
However, Nora will write what Nora will write, and the rest of us will buy her books and maybe kvetch and request ideas but it’s totally up to Nora what gets written; all we can do is buy/not buy or read/not read her work.

I just finished Fury and I have to agree with this book being in my top three. What a story. I usually try to draw a new “in death” book out by reading slowly over a few days but this book. WOWZER!! I began and there was no putting it down. I loved that we got to enjoy the “great house project” house warming and Mavis giving birth in the same time frame. I’ve been wondering if this might happen and am so thrilled that we got both story lines at the same time. Thank you Nora for a truly GREAT story
You will have typos no matter hoe many times a manuscript is proofed.

Reading in progress, but I have learned that it is not a good idea to cut a line or to get between a woman and her bagel with schmear. Loving it so far. I have to pace myself or I’ll gobble it up in one big lump. 😂😂😂

When Eve was being tended by Summerset and he told her to listen to the man who loves her, was he referring to Roarke or himself?

Probably Roarke but yes, you can almost feel, he’s come to care for her deeply as well, which I think shocks even him so he cannot verbalize it.

Just finished. All I can say is WOW – every time I read the next In Death book, I say it can’t get better than this. Fury In Death is your absolute best yet. LOVE LOVE LOVED it. Had to chuckle at Eve’s thought that the twins weren’t identical (fraternal twins aren’t LOL).
I loved this book. I cried at the beginning and the end! I was so proud of myself. I used my kindle search to make sure there was a new baby coming in this book. Then I read the whole damn book, which is excellent, to read the birth, sex and name. I was crying happy tears and then sad tears for another warrior. Thank you Nora.

Well crafted story, fast pace, but thought the last part with the killer was a little soft, and could have been extended a bit. It felt a little flat.

Wow !!! I simply loved it. For once, I didn’t feel bad about the people who died. I felt for the person who did the killing. And this a fresh breath of air. I feel like I have the delights !!! Ha ha ha. What a ride ! One of the best books in this series and the series is so awesome. Gonna re-read it right away.

I loved this book. The story had me from the beginning. I laughed at Galahad snitching to Roarke about Eve’s injuries. The house party and the home birth. All great. I wish I didn’t read them so fast.
I just finished. This is definitely one of the better books in the series. I’m not ready to give it a place marker yet. Considering the storyline has to, more or less, follow a pattern, I thought this story was unique in several ways. I could see growth in Eve. That was welcome. I was glad Bella and Phoebe didn’t really appear until the end. It was sort of strange to read about Eve getting hurt from a fight. I’m glad she let Summerset tend to her. I look forward to reading others’ thoughts.

I agree with Deede’ comments- quite a different feel for this story but fantastic read – my style is speed read – can’t wait to read it and then go back slowly to reread at leisure and again and again.

This is definitely one of my favorites top two or three. The story was fantastic and the growth and everyone is really amazing. Eve, of course as everyone has said I got a kick out of Peabody who’s really growing up! I could go on and on, but I won’t. Now I have to wait for Amazon to allow me to buy the next one six month ahead of time. Thank you for writing these.
I don’t think ive ever cried reading an Eve Dallas novel as hard as I cried at the end of this one. From the very first chapter I was sick with horror and empathy. It just kept getting worse and worse. As a parent it was absolutely devastating to hear the amount of love for his family and them brutally dying right in front of him. There are no words.
Loved how all rhe characters have evolved. Eve no longer fights medical attention, just going to the hospital. And she listens to Peabody about meals better. And Peabody! Gets her own licks in, physically and verbally. And Eve more willing to delegate. More little things, but going willingly with Trina! Loved this story! Now Leonardo has 3 girls! Next, maybe twin boys named after Roarke and McNab?

Another excellent case for Eve and team and loved that Galahad stepped in and alerted to her injuries. What a good boy. Loved the twists in the case. The party went off as planed other that Number 2 FINALLY made her appearance although I wished He had made it. I do get that Leonardo loves his girls, he may would love a boy. Time for number 3? Well done Nora and thank you for all these years of entertainment

And . . . Fury is probably one of the very best of the In Death books. Back on her game, is our author. (Not that she was ever actually off.) But truly, this one was a home run. Thanks for the read; it was really great.
I’m a slow reader when it comes to the In Death series. I really enjoyed this book. I gasped out loud when he came through the ceiling of the elevator! He really hurt her wile trying to tell her something. I got teary eyed when he told Eve that he was glad he saw her at the press conference and he realized that he was going to get justice for his family. This book is in my top 3-4 favorites. I love the new baby’s name!
I have read and reread every In Death book in the series and there is something very wrong with the cadence, rhythm and tone of the writing in Fury in Death. The dialogue is stilted, lacks the power, depth and reality that makes all Nora’s characters so relatable. Eve is not Eve and her backstory and event descriptions from previous books are just soulless. I do not know who wrote (or edited maybe) this book but it is not the style and magic flow I have grown to love from every Nora Roberts book (and yes, I have them all!) It is not the story that is poor, it feels as if it has been written by a different author or AI.
I’m sorry Fury didn’t work for you, but Nora wrote every word. She would never allow a book to be published under her name if that wasn’t the case. -Laura
That’s a terrible accusation, and an insult to my integrity. The book didn’t work for you, fine, it happens. But to leap from there to AI? I have made it clear, time and again, I write my own books. Always. If my name’s on the cover, my words are inside it. Your status as a reader doesn’t give you the right to insult my honesty because like some readers you’ve decoded you know my work and my characters better than I do. And you’d be wrong.
I am so very sorry, I had absolutely no intention of questioning your integrity, in fact quite the opposite. Your books have been a cornerstone to my life. All your characters reach out and bring you into their world, they are so brilliantly crafted, and my favourite aspect is how they grow and appear in different roles book to book in each series. I truly have almost every book you have written, and read them repeatedly. The character dialogue in this book was just so different. It left me confused, concerned and honestly worried your name had been misused.
No one else, including my editor, agent, my personal publicist found anything off or `different’ in the dialogue—nor do I. No one else had claimed Eve wasn’t Eve, etc. For whatever reason, this book didn’t work for you. But how is claiming it must have been written by someone else or AI NOT an insult to me? How in the world could my name be misused when Laura and I are promoting the book? So am I a liar or a victim of some sort? How about neither. I won’t sit quietly when accused of unethical practices or disrespect for my craft, my name and the readers. You overstepped, and when a reader oversteps, it’s smart to step back again.
This book is awesome I’m not a wordsmith so I can’t really come up with anything that explains my wonderful positive feeling for this book. I liked the flow a lot and I love that Peabody is developing her skills and instinct as a detective. I thought that eventually way down the road she could also take the detective sergeant test and passed with flying colors. I took three days to read this savoring it, then I went back and read the final target again , And now I’m going to read through theory again to pick up what I missed. Thank you so much Nora For getting me through hard spots in my life. I just found out Monday that I have Parkinson’s and escaping into your books has really helped me to slowly deal with this change in my life. You’re not just an author you know, you’re my kind of therapist too in a loose sort of way.
One of THE best parts of reading a JD Robb book is Ms. Roberts’ feedback. I always Laugh Out Loud when she replies to a post – especially when she’s giving it her all 🙂 I can hear Eve in some of those remarks and absolutely LOVE them. You’re a Treasure Ms. Roberts.
