We’re getting closer to the Passions in Death release date – September 3 — so I thought it might be time to share the excerpt.

First, here’s the official excerpt:

On a hot August night, Eve and Roarke speed through the streets of Manhattan to the Down and Dirty club, where a joyful, boisterous pre-wedding girls’ night out has turned into a murder scene. One of the brides lies in a pool of blood, garroted in a private room where she was preparing a surprise for her fiancée—two scrimped and saved-for tickets to Hawaii.

Despite the dozens of people present, useful witnesses are hard to come by. It all brings back some bad memories for Eve who once suffered an assault in the very same room—but she’d been able to fight back and survive. She’d gotten justice. And now she needs to provide some for poor young Erin.

Eve knows that the level of violence and the apparent premeditation involved suggest a volatile mix of hidden, heated passion and ice-cold calculation. This is a crime that can be countered only by hard detective work and relentless dedication—and Eve will not stop until she finds the killer who destroyed this couple’s dreams before the honeymoon even began…

  1. Rereading from the beginning and it’s been so fun- just finished Portrait. Really loved it. I know Nora’s plan for the future but has she ever considered a “prequel “ about Roake’s rise from Dublin? I’m sure there would be stories there! I know she drops bits and pieces and those are fun.

    1. I don’t see an In Death prequel in our future. It works for Nora’s process to fill in the past when it pertains to the current case. -Laura

  3. Back at the end of February, I decided to start from book #1 and binge reread the entire in Death series. Am now halfway through book #56. Am loving this series even more than the first time through.

  9. The victim’s first name is the same as my eldest niece’s, and she’s getting married in October. It felt a bit weird reading this excerpt as a result!

  12. Just can’t help myself but, on the first read, I gobble each book up like a junkie who can’t get their fix fast enough. Then I wait a day or two and re-read the book at a much slower rate. On the first read I get that rush of enjoyment. On the 2nd & slower read, I still get the enjoyment, but my pleasure is so satisfying. Then whenever I’m bored I’ll go back & start to re-read the series from the beginning. I’m doing that again, this year.

    2. I do the same thing! I start the book as soon as I receive it. Then a few days later I will reread the book a savior the story.

    I’m rereading them now with Faithless in Death beside me!
    I normally borrow the new ones from the library then buy the paperback when it comes out. However I do have a few hardbound I received as gifts.

  19. I am a HUGE fan of Nora Roberts and I imagine I have most of her books ever written as well as all JD Robb books. What a blessing to be so talented. I sit in anticipation for every new book.

  21. I have all the books so far except the last one that was written. I usually wait a few weeks (or 2 or 3 months) till I can buy it off e bay for a bit less, since I am on a limited income. But when it comes out I watch for it to become available. Thank you so much, these are the only books I keep.

  23. I think this is about the third time that I have reread in death series probably about book 35
    I absolutely adore every character and I just hope that they continue on I love the fact that as a writer you hit all the most important events that are even now are going on keep up the good work
