One Whole Glorious Week…

is about to begin. The minute I finish this blog, I’ll head for the shower, get dressed, slap some makeup on a face that hasn’t seen any throughout winter hibernation. My strong, considerate husband will load the rest of my stuff in the car.

I’ll have timed it fairly well to the arrival of my traveling companions, Laura and Mary Kay. Then we’re off. Off to girl week, spa week, Drunken Spa Girl Week. Friends, pampering, exercise, laugh, games, prizes, cookies, and courtesy of Mary Kay two nights of ice cream sundaes.

This is a long spring tradition, and one all of us look forward to like kids at Christmas. Probably more.

I’m leaving behind greening trees, sprouting blooms (and weeds), dogs and man and work. I took this shot of my cherry trees yesterday, and hope I come back to them in bloom. I hope to start digging in the dirt before much longer, taking after-work walks with the dogs, filling tubs with weeds. But for now, it’s pals and massages, room service and morning workouts.

I expect my man and my dogs will enjoy their week in a female-free house, too.

My girls will trickle in to the big room that serves as a kind of HQ for the week. We are eleven women of varying ages and backgrounds and interests–and game-playing skills. We’re young mothers and grandmothers, wives and daughters, writers and professionals. And we are friends. As a woman who grew up outnumbered by men (four brothers) and had two sons, having this wonderful circle of girlfriends is a rich, shiny treasure.

And this week we can all celebrate girlfriends.

When you have smart, savvy, loving, interesting women in your life it deserves celebration.

Can’t wait to start.
Nora
Note from Laura:  There was so much stuff in the car, I had to sit in this small space.  🙂20160403_100323
Will post details about the week from my perspective too!

  1. I wish that more women had this bonding time. I think that is wonderful tradition!!! Have fun!!

  2. Geez, Laura, hope it’s not a long drive! My legs are cramping just looking at the picture! Hope you have a wonderful time!

  3. Have a wonderful time. I love girl time. Look forward to hearing about it once you return.

  4. Wow! that’s a loaded car!!! lol. Y’all have fun and please post the pics. especially the drunken spa thingy. lol

  5. Ohhhhh so jealous!! Have a great time. Now I know where all your great girl-time scenes stem from lol 😀

  6. Who’s doing all the driving? That’s the only part that’s not so fun. The rest looks like a ball. There’s nothing like an all-girls vacay. You need to leave room in the car for new shopping stuff. Ihope you have a great time. After working so hard, you deserve to PLAY HARD.

  7. Oh what a treat! I think that it is great. My best friend is coming out for a week from San Diego California…. This will be her first time traveling to Texas. I have to start saving money so I can show her a great time! That means that all of those lovely scrapbooking kits that I want will have no choice but to go straight into my wish box for Christmas!
I had a fantastic girl day with my daughter yesterday. Mexican food and margaritas…. awesome day, then went and had our hair cut. I did mine short. Neck line with the top layered. I love love love it… wash and go!
Have a great time with all the girls…….. It is your week to just do what ever feels great! Enjoy!

  8. Enjoy your week, everyone needs a break every now and then.

  9. I highly recommend husband and wife having “Me Time” at least once a year. For me, I get to stay in a very nice hotel and TheGroom gets to stay at home. He says he works all year and gets stuff he likes, so he prefers staying at home around all of his stuff.

I used to travel out of town (usually for surgery,) but now I forego the planes and rental cars and just stay at a hotel here in town. Less stress, and it only takes about 20 minutes of driving to get there. I think I’m about due, btw.

Have a blast with your besties! It sounds like a very good time.

  10. My BFF and I just got back from a short (3day) gambling trip to Biloxi. We’ve been doing this for more than 10 years for our April birthdays. Always such fun–and sometimes we come home with some money. This time I did and she didn’t.) Great tradition!

  11. Congratulations, Women! It’s wonderful to have a group like that to share a fun/relaxing/crazy time. In my professional days I was a part of a similar group, and we did enjoy our twice a year Spring and Fall Flings! It taught me how to appreciate the friendship of women that has been a blessing in retirement too. Have a great time and come home ready to kick into work mode with gusto.

  12. I’m sorry, but I’m going to channel Eve Dallas here, Wait. You’re just going away for a week…and you need ALL of those suitcases?
    Seriously?
Unlike my favorite heroine, I don’t think I even own that many clothes! ?
Have fun on your wild and wooly week!
Remember, if you need bail money, just give the J.D. Robb fans (of which I am one of the biggest), a shout! We got your back!
    Enjoy yourself!

    1. Three women for a week, plus cases of champagne, plus many fabulous prizes, bag ‘o gifts, bag ‘o books, a scoreboard, Wii components for tournament. And I forget LOL.

      It’s a lot of stuff.

      1. At first I thought the same thing, that all of that luggage was just for you. Then it dawned on me that it was for all 3 of you.

Have a blast and stay out of trouble! If you need bail money, give me a shout. 😉

  13. Wishing you all an amazing time. Enjoy! Now Laura don’t whine, there will massages at the end of the trip 😉
    Have Fun!
    Teresa

  14. I’m envious of not only your close circle of friends, but of your “girl time” to get away from it all.

  15. This will sound like a sob story but really I’m fine. I have no friends outside my books so I am very excited to read about your fun spa week and vacations. You write so well I feel like I’m there also, and get to have a fun trip with girlfriends as well. Plus having a second alone too read your blogs is my minnie vacation from Spring Break kiddos who now have cabin fever. So thanks for the updates!
