It’s part of the In Death lore that the series was originally planned as a trilogy. (!) Kind of makes you laugh when you consider the last 29 years.
I’m pleased to share the US/Canada cover of Bonded in Death — the 60th full-length In Death novel. It will be in your hands on February 4, 2025.
Don’t worry, you’ll still have your fall fix as Passions in Death is out September 3. – Laura

Preordered from TTP and so excited as this cover is amazing. 🙂
So glad it didn’t stay as a trilogy lol.
Love the new cover!! I preordered it, today.
I’m so glad, too, it didn’t stop at 3!
Twenty-nine years?! My first exposure to the In Death books was when my aunt gave me a copy of the eighth book, not knowing it was a series. As I read it, and noted the characters’ familiarities with one another, I realized there must be an installment or two I’d missed. So, I backtracked, purchased the prior seven volumes, and read myself into a stupor. That’s when I read everything I could find about the “mysterious” J.D. Robb – I’d never heard of her. Some of the “lore” I discovered was the “Pepsi/Diet Pepsi” (or was it Coke/Diet Coke?) pitch by the editor/publisher/agent? (not sure which) who talked her into taking this bold step. And I remember part of the data I’d mined mentioned a trilogy.
THANK YOU for not stopping at three!
A few years ago, I purchased from TTP the CD series of the In Death books, and at the beginning of the year, begun listening to them while in my car. (I’m currently on #6, Vengeance In Death.) It’s so much fun to hear what I’d read all those years ago! So happy to go back to the beginning to meet everyone again! “Bonded” is certain to be another surefire hit.
One last note of thanks: This one goes to the nuns who taught you discipline. That you can write as you do – keep a set schedule, stay in the “writing zone,” even while on vacation – we readers are so lucky. Blessed, I’d say. To ALL of you in the Noraverse: Thanks.
What a cool looking cover. Just a few more months to go. Gee eight months will take forever.
Thank you for sharing and for the tease on the story.
Always anxiously waiting for next In Death book. Reread them all. Also for Nora’s books. Can’t wait for Mind Games soon. 🤗
I’m always looking for the next In Death book, but Bonded is one that really attracts me. For the little I summary read, it looks like it would be a Summerset book, about his mysterious life. I truly can’t wait.
Love the cover!! Can’t wait to read it!
What a colorful and intriguing cover! Looking forward to the book!
I continue to love this series. With every new release, there is always more to look forward to. Thank goodness it didn’t stick within the confines of its intended trilogy! ❤
my copy of Bonded was pre-ordered on April 15th (my answer to tax day!) and Passions was pre-ordered on 12/30/23. Just boggles the mind that there are 60 titles and that’s it’s been almost 30 years since Naked ID. Shoot, I look at the pub dates on some of the titles & “what, it’s been that many years since … was published? Oh yeah, I need to reread that one!”
Some of the lore I heard/read was that the series was originally refused because they didn’t want to confuse the NR readers! Bet the person that turned it down originally kicks themselves on a regular basis!
That lore is a little mixed up. Nora’s publisher suggested she take a pseudonym because she wrote books at such a fast pace. But when her agent convinced her that it was branding (a la Pepsi/Diet Pepsi in the same brand family) Nora agreed.
With the stipulation that she write a different sort of story. Thus JD was born and the In Deaths came to life. -Laura
So glad Nora’s publisher and agent helped Nora get the In Death series published. I’ve been reading them from the start (29 years! Wow). They never disappoint. On to pre-order the 60th!
This devoted fan can only be smiley-happy (and other sometimes more extreme positive feelings) at another In Death book being published. Pre-ordering “Bonded” when I finish this comment.
I have read every In Death book published. Including those in an anthology. So happy there have been more than 3 books.
I’m always excited for a new In Death book but this is one I’m super excited for. One of my favorite things about the spectacular world-building in this series is the lore of the Urban Wars and I’m always so thrilled to get more information on it. (And I especially like that it’s peppered in on an as-the-story-needs-it basis rather than straight-out info-dumping, which keeps it dynamic and haunting.) I’m also always a sucker for more Summerset background (really, though, the whole series is a case of “I love everyone in this bar.”) so that will be super fun and probably super emotional at the same time.
OH GOSH!!!! And here i was, just checking out when the next in death book is coming in September. AND I FIND THIS!!! WOOOHOO!!!
Oh, yeah, I have hard copies of my In Death Books. Some in hardbound. They are pretty sturdy.
ps I miss the clones from Conspiracy in Death. Will Nora ever write another in Death book with them in it? What about Tiko, the enterprising kid? There’s just so much so much so much to love about the In Death universe.
Those story lines will only show up again if they pertain to the current case. We saw Tiko recently in Desperation in Death. The clones only went on the run a little over a year ago in the In Death world so probably not. -Laura
thank you for my birthday present every year 9/9. Pick up a blue lady cover book in a used bookstore over 25 years ago been hooked ever since. I have every Nora Roberts book in paperback or ebook. Love you
