Long time In Death readers are familiar with the story of how Nora started writing as JD Robb. But as I learned yesterday, maybe we don’t know all the nuances. At the 2012 RWA conference in Anaheim, Nora sat down with filmmaker Laurie Kahn whose current labor of love is The Popular Romance Project: Rethinking Love and Romance.
Yesterday, Laurie’s team sent us this clip in which Nora discusses how a projected trilogy has expanded to 38 books with February’s Concealed in Death: Creating JD Robb.
Enjoy!
And Thank Goodness! I love Eve and Rouke and all of them…they are like friends/family and I love these books. don’t ever stop!
Thanks for sharing this. Fascinating!
I have just about all the In Death books, and have read and reread all of them many times. I love the characters and get a clear picture in my head thanks to Nora’s writing style. They are very nearly real to me and I love the dynamics between them. I sincerely hope she keeps pumping them out, because they are my escape from reality after a hard day at work or home. I have almost all the books written under Nora too, but my ult fav are the mag In Death books, they’re TTT!!
I love the in Death series. My supervisor got me hooked and I started with audio and then I bought the books and audiobooks to. First cassettes now mp3 and I have at least 10 friends hooked also mostly audio.
Try them you may love them. PS my daughter loves them and listens to them over and over. They are a family affair.
I loved that Roarke was as much a surprise to her as he was to us! So glad Nora wanted to keep it going! Thanks for the clip, Laura!
Very interesting…thanks! I can’t wait for Peabody and McNabb to get married. I think Somerset needs some female companionship too! Each book is like getting together with your best friends after not seeing each other for a spell. BTW…can’t remember hearing lately of Eve’s diamond necklace…and how are Charles and Louise doing? Crack? Thank you, Nora for your stories and a blessed Christmas to you and your family.
What a wonderful clip! Nora is such a talented, gifted writer and I’ve read the whole In Death series several times through in order, as well as all her other books. I was telling my husband today, actually, that her books are the only ones I love to reread. I never get tired of them. They’re like visiting old friends after being apart for a while! Please never end the In Death series, especially. Thank you so much!!
Thank you for posting/providing the link to the interview, Laura!
I had seen Nora talk about how this was initially going to be a 3-book deal, and how she ultimately came up with name “JD Robb”, but the rest, I didn’t know, so yay!
And also, I could listen to Nora read the damned phone book, her voice is so compelling. And no, I’m not brown nosing. Not at all!
I GOTTA get back to TTP soon! February for sure!
I’m glad they let her keep going. Eve and Roarke have developed as characters in every book. It would have been a sad thing to have only three. Plus we get twice as much stuff that Nora has written, even if it is two different things.
Love the eve Dallas series-they are like family!
Laura, thanks for sharing. I have been a long-time fan of the In-Death series. I am the proud owner of the paperback edition of Naked In Death that came out way back when. I have the entire series and the MP3 Discs of every book, that I listen to in the car. I hope the series never ends.
I found the In Death series when Naked in Death first came out and I was hooked. I had no idea it was Nora Roberts. I have all the books in print and audio. I listen to the entire series again while waiting for each new book. It never gets old. Like others, I pick up something New with each re -read. Thank you Nora for and the pleasure you have given me with All of your as ND Robb and NR. I can’t wait until Freruary.
Amazing.
I am one of the few readers that stated reading JD Robb. I loved the books.
Then as JD Robb and Nora Roberts were the same writer I decide to give it a try. I didn’t read romance before Nora Roberts I thought it wasn’t my thing. So, I’m so glad Nora decided to write as JD Robb.
What a great video…it is nice to hear the explanation. As a genre I do not like mysteries, but I love the In Death books…and who cannot fall in love with Eve and Roarke? They are so fascinating.
I did not realize that the In Death series was originally set to be a trilogy, but, like many of the fans I’m sure, I’m eternally grateful that the series continues. The relationships between the various characters is believable and vivid. I’ve read them several times (usually after I finish reading the most current I have to go back and reread/listen to the rest again) and also listen to them. The woman that does the readings, Susan Eriksen, does a fantastic job at changing the tone and cadence for each character and makes the novels fun to listen to as well.
Thank you for such a great series!
I have just finished reading ‘Glory in Death’ I would like to know what the next title is in the series, I missed the book that is following Glory in Death. Thank you for your help.
