Passions in Death teasers

We’re mere hours from the release of Passions in Death — the 59th full length book in the series! I thought I’d share a few little teasers — more things you should look for than spoilers.

Here’s the official description:

On a hot August night, Eve and Roarke speed through the streets of Manhattan to the Down and Dirty club, where a joyful, boisterous pre-wedding girls’ night out has turned into a murder scene. One of the brides lies in a pool of blood, garroted in a private room where she was preparing a surprise for her fiancée—two scrimped and saved-for tickets to Hawaii.

Despite the dozens of people present, useful witnesses are hard to come by. It all brings back some bad memories for Eve who once suffered an assault in the very same room—but she’d been able to fight back and survive. She’d gotten justice. And now she needs to provide some for poor young Erin.

Eve knows that the level of violence and the apparent premeditation involved suggest a volatile mix of hidden, heated passion and ice-cold calculation. This is a crime that can be countered only by hard detective work and relentless dedication—and Eve will not stop until she finds the killer who destroyed this couple’s dreams before the honeymoon even began.

Here are my teasers — and this time I used a couple of direct quotes:

Parties are murder.

“Wait! Don’t I get a vote on tribe membership?”

Murder Face. It’s a thing.

There’s a work around to vending.

“No little rat-dog could hold a candle to you.”

Thinking time. It’s a thing in this book.

“Your moods are many. And it’s not at all the same.”

I will open the discussion thread first thing on September 3 so you can talk all you want about Passions in Death there (for now, it’s only about the teasers).

  1. “No little rat-dog could hold a candle to you.”
That sounds like something Eve would say to Galahad. LOL. Counting the minutes. 🙏🙏🙏

    1. Totally agree that it is a reference to Eve having a unpleasant dog encounter and explaining it to Galahad.

  2. I love the Rat dog line and Eve’s thinking time. Shoot, I love every bit of all the books.

  3. I’m having fun guessing who said which and who they apply to. Looking forward to tomorrow.

  4. Anticipation is building! Looking forward to another great read!

  5. I already take offense at the term “rat-dog.” Small dogs (I have a Chihuahua mix) deserve and earn just as much respect as large dogs. 💪

    1. I have a feeling this is a Galahad interaction. You know how much her hates smelling other animals on Eve.

    2. I too love small dogs, but they can be a royal pain if not properly trained and socialised. Too many owners of small dogs let them get away with behaviours large dog owners are vilified for.

      1. Little dogs often get away with bad behavior because their owners don’t train them. They can be trained, just read Nora’s The Searchers and find out. There is a lovely bit about a spoiled little dog that Fiona trains to behave.

        1. Yes, and that little dog is so much happier and less stressed.

        2. Diane, I saw MichelleK’s comment & thought of NR’s Searchers and the training spot for the little one with the painted toenails immediately! I always wondered if that gal & the hubby managed to hold the line later on!

          1. Actually, whenever I see people who can’t control their dogs, I think of The Search. I believe in training dogs so everyone gets the most enjoyment out of having them as a pet. I’ve noticed a neighbor training her dog, and he is very well behaved. A little work goes a long way.

  6. Five little words, do I have for you: “Is it the 3rd, yet?” (in a pleading little voice) Great Easter Eggs, Laura, and I’ll be ticking them off as I enjoy this latest book!

    1. It is the third right now in Australia, and I am off to the shop in the next hour.

  7. Note to self, clear your morning on release day unless you plan to download at midnight there might be accidental spoilers. 😉

    1. That was my original plan but my stupid car has to go to the shop first thing! So now instead of being up all night reading and commenting on the discussion thread most of the day I get to spend two plus hours at the mechanics.

  8. I’m hoping the “rat-dog” comment follows Eve’s encounter with a pooch. Nora’s dog descriptions always make me 😂.

  9. Sooooo looking forward to this book. Just back from a cruise that included an encounter with Ernesto (not sure if it was considered a typhoon, a cyclone or what) – high, crashing waves and a rocking boat in high winds. Made for an interesting cruise. But we had fun!

  10. Thinking time is not in quotes, so I believe it is a reference to what is required by the reader.

  11. My first thought too, but I’ve read a lot of doggie detective books lately, so it could be a comment to Eve if there’s a dog witness contradicting Eve’s investigation. Yeah, I know I’m probably overthinking but thinking is all I have to do for hours and hours and hours.
Sorry for the repeat, fixing a typo

  12. I wish the release date was September 2 so I could spend my holiday reading instead of waiting after getting my great-niece to bed on Tuesday.

  13. I can’t wait to find out what the work around to vending might be! LOL, so excited.

  14. My day off starts on the release date. Guess what I will be doing?

  15. Thanks for the teasers. Can’t wait to read it —after tomorrow’s dental appointment is finished!🙄
