Greenbrier Days

Some housekeeping notes: Nora and I divided the 2024 summer travel stories. I’ll handle Greenbrier, while she’ll send a recap of the family trip to Hatteras in the next few weeks.

There is no overseas travel this year due to a ton of stateside family events. We’ll resume the longer travelogues in 2025 when Nora and family head back to Ireland. More to come on that trip when we get closer.

For now, here’s my interpretation of our week at The Greenbrier:

Rainy afternoon means a group hangout in the red room. See that mirror on the far wall? I’ll talk about that later this fall. Photo by Laura.

*While we waited for Kat and Griffin, we moved from the patio into the Red Room. Nora, JoAnne, Sarah and I heard some soft voices down the hall. Nora went to greet Kat and Griffin, but no one was there. Absolutely no one. Our first meeting with the spirits, done and dusted.

**Kat went back downstairs about 30 minutes later and the tv was back on. I spoke sternly to the spirits the next night and promised I’d get the tv on so the could see Simone Biles early on Sunday. I kept that promise and peace reigned.

  1. Laura can I ask where you got that awesome puzzle, or who makes it?

    1. I have found it on Amazon. It’s called The Bodleian Library and it’s by High Jinks

  2. Sounds like everyone had a wonder time! Could almost picture your reaction when you saw the bear😱😳😳

  3. Sounds like a wonderful time and a great getaway for all you ladies and Griffin. I am so with you about games, Laura. I just am not a game player. Thank you for sharing your adventures.

  4. Love to hear about Greenbrier trips. Beautiful place. Full of memories for all. Thanks. PS. Love hearing about the spirits also.
Looking forward to next trip story.

  5. Wow Nora! Your arm looks amazing. Workout gun goals.💪🏻

  6. Thanks for sharing! Scary about the bear. This summer my friend and her family walked into their cabin at south shore Tahoe after going out to dinner and a bear was in their kitchen. Ate all their Oreos, drank their Hershey syrup…drank their toilet water. Thankfully it bolted out the back door it came in from. Looking forward to new In Depth book next month. 😊

  7. Sounds like a fun time with the unexpected visit by baby bear. The glassworks are lovely, and JoAnn’s teardrop looks spot on. You all look wonderful dressed up. Thank you for sharing.

  8. Sounds like fun was had by all. It’s great y’all get to relax and escape the everyday routines.

  9. Sounds like you all had an awesome and interesting time!., So glad you all share the adventures ! I love to hear everything you all do. Can’t wait for the next chapter! Love the blown glass.

  10. What a wonderful time, especially the bear sighting!! Laura, thanks for sharing!

  11. Love surprise visits with bears though usually I can just back into a door and close it then try to get a picture. The glasswork look wonderful, obviously none of you are novices.

  12. Thanks for the great recap, Laura! The glass pieces are beautiful, I love art glass. What a lovely place to stay for vacation and to celebrate the birthdays. Everyone looked lovely all dressed up for your special dinner. The bear experience is something new, it must have been unnerving! Enjoy the rest of the summer.

  13. What a great time! That is a great jigsaw puzzle.
Glass blowing fascinates me, too. I slightly helped to make a pumpkin at Corning Museum of Glass last year. I hope to be able to participate more in the future like you ladies were able to do.

  14. Thank you for sharing your girls trip to Greenbrier. What a wonderful time. Except for the baby bear vist, to bad about the photo. The glass work is beautiful all different.

  15. I second the request for the name of that puzzle. It looks wonderful.

  16. Sounds like a wonderful time, even with the bear visit. My mother, sisters and I are going in September. Was thinking about doing the glass blowing. Will definitely do some other glass crafts. This will be my first visit to Greenbrier. Have a wonderful rest of your summer.

  17. We left the puzzle at Greenbrier! I don’t remember the name of it, or the brand. Sorry!

I will say it was really, REALLY challenging.

  18. Thanks for sharing. It looks like an amazing time. Griffin has gotten so big. My reaction will to the bear would probably mirror yours. I’m grateful that Nora put in some time on the trilogy. Thanks Nora!

I’m always grateful that you share your trips with us. Thank you.

  19. You guys always have the best time. So happy you are all going strong.

  20. Laura,

Thanks for sharing your trip. It sounds like everyone had a great time. I love the picture of everyone’s blown glass projects. I had an opportunity to see this being done last year and it was truly amazing.

  21. What a beautiful place! Completely my speed! Glad you all had a nice time and that the spirits were appeased!

  22. Sounds like you had a wonderful time! No wonder you keep going back. So looking forward to the fall releases. I indulged myself with a repeat of the Dragon Heart trilogy these past few months and was happy to see Nora and family are going back to Ireland. Recalled a knock-down-drag out with a reading buddy at the time. She wanted more of Ireland (who doesn’t?) and my faith in the author said no, it was the right time to finish. We agreed to disagree. Wishing all a good finish to summer without frying.

  23. The picture of Nora during the glassworks session, look at that arm definition! Woah. The gardening and all those workouts are definitely giving good muscle tone. Inspiration as I begin my fitness journey anew after a long period of illness.
