  1. I had so much trouble trying to pre-order this book. I was so happy I could buy it today. I have to finish reading the first book before I dive into my new treasure. I just adore a new book. Especially when the book adds to a story I already love.

  2. I like waiting until all books are out before I start reading a trilogy. Believe me, it’s worth the wait!! This way, I enjoy reading the entire series together – going from one book to the next!!! ❤️❤️

    1. Looking forward to Read this, but before I do, still waiting for Forgotten in Death from Waterstones Eastbourne UK. They have had trouble getting it, so my brothers coming for a visit from the States and he has ordered it for me bringing it with him, so I will have lots to Read before Christmas. I hope you all stay safe and wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and Happy Healthy New Year.🤗

    2. I usually do to! I made a horrible mistake and listened to book 1 on a road trip… No I anxiously await book 3. >sigh< 😂

  3. Big shout out to Turn the Page Bookstore! My book arrived yesterday morning at 6:30 am! I was doing my morning yoga when the mail truck turned in. Thank you all for running such an efficient store. Grateful for you all.

I will comment again when I have read the book. I just was so tickled to get it yesterday!

    1. I also received my copy yesterday. I have read about a quarter of it and it is amazing so far! I love that Marco is with Breen!

  4. Started it last night; something I haven’t allowed myself to do in recent books. I’m not a speed reader so it’ll be awhile before I get really IN to the book. Just enjoying at this point Marco’s reaction to his unexpected trip!

      1. I really enjoyed that there’s finally a romance between two people that are LGBTQ. I love Marco so much, his friendship and loyalty and humor. It’s going to be so hard to wait for the 3rd release.

    1. Wish I had thought to reread the first book before starting this! oh well. Starting ch 5…

      1. I spent the entire week before release of “The Becoming” rereading “The Awakening” and will likely do it again with the release of the finale.

    2. Took my time, and I was pretty busy last month as well. I’m a slow reader to boot; finally finished it last week. Next day was wishing I still had it to read! I’m going to take some of my coreaders advice and reread it!

  5. It dropped on my Kindle this morning and I’m 35% into it and it’s only 10am!
    I’m a happy reader😋

  6. Ordered mine should be here tomorrow…have to decide if I want to reread the last one first tho 😍

  7. Up til 4 and feel like a zombie! So worth it! I completely love every single thing that happened to and with Marco. He is simply the best.

  8. I want to just sit and read this new adventure, but I’m pacing myself, because I don’t want it to end. I am so in love with all the characters! Marco is my fav at the moment!

  9. Sadly will wait for the paperback, having looked through my book pile I just can’t justify the cost of Hardback books, I have practically everything Nora has written, love them, but I will wait.I just don’t see the point of hardbacks at all. Same story in a paperback (and they don’t fit on my book shelf!)

    1. Check the library? That’s how I read this. I love the story but have to wait for prices to come down to buy.

  10. I can’t wait to start this tonight!!!! I have been so anxiously waiting!

  11. I too, am a very sleep deprived person – but oh it was worth it! Marco & Brian – squee! Loved the scene with Breen & Keegan – Sidhe Champagne, I giggled out loud! LOL Breen, Becoming, yes that’s with a capital B! Shana cannot get what she so richly deserves fast enough.
Truly a roller coaster ride and I loved every moment of it!!!

Now I must be “an adult” and do “adult” things – like making preparations for our Thanksgiving feast. I am so blessed to have my oldest be home once again for Thanksgiving day. Later tonight I’ll start my slow re-read to enjoy Breen’s story at a more respectful pace.
    Happy Thanksgiving to all!

    1. I absolutely adored this book. Now I’m not sure what to do with myself. Along with most others I LOVE the relationship between Marco and Brian. “Watching” Breens relationship with Sedrick deepen is beautiful. He seems so grateful and a bit surprised that she is just ready to be his granddaughter. There are just so many beautiful stories and I can’t wait to read where they go.

      1. I like our point about Sedric and Breen’s relationship. I think he is emerging- we’ll see more of why he is worthy of Marg.

  12. When I didn’t get my ebook downloaded on my kindle from the library, I called 4 different libraries before I could get one that had the print copy. I told the librarian “Please walk over to the shelf and hold the book in your hand so that I know you have it, I’m on my way!”. I took my lunch break at 10:30 to get it. Happy girl here. Can’t wait for 5:00 o’clock. Nice long weekend, doing the happy dance. I can’t wait! Happy Thanksgiving to all.

  13. I’m loving it already! I want to have Marco as my best friend, love him!!

  14. I have it on my Kindle but savoring it little by little. Don’t want to rush it

  15. Yes, I raced through it. It was glorious, love Marco & Brian.
I knew Shanna would end up going to bad side. She is evil and I hope she gets hers. I did not like her from the beginning and knew she would be trouble.
I love Breen coming into who she really is – awakening, becoming and choosing. I have see her awaken in book 1 and become in book 2.
    She is a wonderful heroine.

  16. My copy will arrive tomorrow. I read The Awakening 8 times wonder how many times I will read this one? lol

  17. So happy to have so much diversity in this series. Have been waiting for years to see main characters of various color, age and sexuality in Nora Robert’s books. Long may it continue.

    1. I have to comment – that Nora’s books have always been inclusive. This is the first where we get into the guys’ relationship, but usually the existence of various everythings is just worked seamlessly into the story.

  18. This book was so worth the wait. I re-read the awakening over the weekend so the characters would be fresh in my mind. I love the way Marco’s character has developed and all of the interpersonal relationships throughout this series so far. I feel so invested, and find myself laughing out loud at the humorous banter and c relating to so many moments throughout the story. I really want to know when the story behind the necklace will come out. It’s been teased in a few visions, and is definitely keeping me intrigued.

    1. I know. I kept thinking, why don’t you ask Nan! Especially after Breen saw the portrait.

  19. I am on the list at the library, I can’t wait. I prefer getting my books from the library when possible.
    Happy Thanksgiving Laura & Nora.

  20. I love, love, love this series. I wish I have a friend like Marco,he’s so wonderful. Please don’t kill him off . Thanks Nora for another wonderful book, now back to preparing Thanksgiving feast.
    Happy Thanksgiving.

    1. I haven’t read #2 yet and I’m so worried that she will kill Marco off like she did King in the vampire trilogy. I have read all her trilogies multiple times but can’t bring myself to read that one again because she killed King.

  21. Loved it!!!! Re-read the first book before starting this one. How long must we wait for #3????

  22. My only complaints are:

    1. I NEED # 3 now 😩
    2. A love scene between B&K was skipped over 😩 In chapter 26 😩

    When is #3 expected?

      1. Oh, and I know it will be excellent. I’ve loved Nora’s stories for a few decades. I just can’t seem to grow any patience, lol

      2. I know we can’t rush perfection….. But another YEAR!!!!. This series is so wonderful….. Finished it in TWO DAYS!! Looks like I’ll re-read the first two books multiple times this year!!! Nora….. You’re wonderful!!!! Thank you and Happy Holidays!! 💝

      3. We have to wait nearly a year?! I’m new to Nora Robert’s. What shall I read in the meantime?

  23. I finished it! Savoured some parts, raced through some parts. And loved every moment!

The best thing about this book (apart from the numerous other best things) is the parallel story lines – of Morena and Harken, of Marco and Brian, Kiara, revelation about Tarryn and Eian.. such lovely, feel good, strong characters!

Shana’s transformation is scary to read. I could almost see it in my mind’s eye while reading about it!

Bollocks, as usual, is his wonderful, cheerful, dopey (and in the end, courageous) self. Breen’s bond with her dragon is a treat to read!

And Keegan, and Breen and Keegan. Sigh! Where are the words??

Now the torturous wait for Book 3 begins..

    1. You have exactly summed up my thoughts and feelings!
Loved this book and can’t wait for book 3!

    2. I’ve always been an avid NR fan and reader. I do find, however, that her novels set in Ireland tend to depict a very idealised, stylised vision of the country which, as a native, I can testify are very far off the mark. In previous novels, however, I have shrugged this off as all part of the charm and escapism the NR novels offer. Unfortunately, what I just cannot get past with these particular stories is the naming of the dog….’Bollocks’. In Ireland this is a crude, rude word for testicles. I have often called my own dog ‘a bollocks’ when he eats my shoes or whatever, but never in front of my children or in public. I wouldn’t allow my kids to use this word, so I cannot understand how it is deemed plausible that a children’s book would realistically feature a dog by this name, as happens in the novel. I can’t understand how this got through editing. It seems to me its a gross misunderstanding of the meaning and general acceptability of this word. This naivity has really pulled the books down in my opinion.

  24. Oh my goodness 🎉🎉🎉I got this to get me through the post-op blues so I started with Awakening, finished that at a sedate pace as it was the second time reading it. Got Becoming in the mail yesterday and I’m already halfway 🤣
I love all things Nora Roberts and JD Robb.

  25. Shanna turning to the dark doesn’t surprise me. Marco and Brian, Keegan and Breen …. I have never read a series before where I adore the characters and can’t wait to read more!

  26. I just ordered my copy, and I can’t wait for it to arrive! I’m still relatively new to Nora’s work, but I just adored The Awakening (and everything else from her I’ve read so far). I already know I’m going to love The Becoming! Marco means so much to me, and I’ve heard that he has a love story in this book. I can’t express how wonderful it is for me to see a gay character be so embraced and loved.

Nora, if you read this, thank you for including Marco in this wonderful adventure. I really love your work. Happy Holidays!

    1. Northern Lights was a good story which reminded me of Baldacchi’s stories. I had no idea she was a fantasy writer. I loved these two books and can’t wait for the third.

  27. I raced through this one, just like the first. I can’t seem to control myself! I love all the romances in this one, especially Keegan and Breen and Marco and Brian. I knew Shana was going to turn to Odran, but man her transformation was a little frightening. Yikes, she’s worse than I thought. I hope Sally and Derrick get to be in the third book more, as I adore Sally. All in all, I loved it and can’t wait for the 3!

  28. I had the hardest time getting the hardcover. I settled for the Kindle version. I think I will order the hardcover from Turn The Page when I get paid Wednesday. Just finished the book. OMG! Fabulous job, Nora. But egads a whole year until book 3 and the climax!

    1. I’ve been preordering my books from TTP for years. Best way to go; it’s on my step the day it’s released! And it’s autographed!

  29. OMG! Where do I start! I absolutely love this book! With Thanksgiving I had to pace myself, but by black Friday it was on. Marco and Brian (so happy 😊) the perfect couple. Turns out that Brian is Breen’s cousin, wonderful it fits. Couldn’t be happier for Marco. Such a goo friend. Morena and Harken what a sweet couple, about time they pledge to each other. Harken is too patient at times, 😆.

In Awakening I didn’t like Keagan a lot because of course he didn’t treat my girl right in the beginning, but now the relationship has mature and has more depth. I fell in love with him ( although for the naked trick he pulled he deserved that punch and then some.) Men need to explain things more, what’s wrong with them?

I knew Shana was a bad apple. I said so in my post about Awakening. She just strucked me as selfish and self centered, but it was a lot darker than that. I hope Yseult gets jealous enough to get rid of her, maybe they’ll kill each other. I’m a little bloodthirsty after reading this book 😆. I feel so bad for Loran poor man in love with that mad and selfish Shana. Her poor parents. I tell my daughter all the time so and so has such nice parents but I don’t care much for the child. Shameful but true.

Back to Becoming , Odran, what a pain in the a….. I can’t wait for Breen to destroy him for good. Nov. 2022 can’t get here soon enough.

5 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 Nora another bestseller. Thank you for your gift of story telling, much appreciation.

    1. I liked Keegan a little less in The Becoming. I know he’s no nonsense, but if he really wanted to keep Breen safe, he wouldn’t have left her alone so much. At least she understands him and I hope they spend more time together in #3 (which may be the death of me waiting for 😆)

  30. Wow! I need Marco in my life. What a satisfying read. I love that Breen found her dragon. I just loved this book. Even better on my second read through.

  31. I loved this story so much! Listened to the first again before starting “Becoming” Listened on auditable, finished both in a few days. Not much sleep and happy to see I’m not the only sleep deprived fan! All I have to say is when does the 3rd book come out? can’t wait to find out what happens!!

  32. I loved it and I agree with everyone I need a Marco in my life. He is such a friend. Breen came into her own in this one at the end she has her first real fight and she wants to be prepared and I think the next book will show her preparing to get rid of the evil. She knows she has to be trained more to fight the evil . Shana kind of worried about because it sounds like she has a bun in the oven and that is what Ordan wants but I think it made her a little more crazy. Looking forward to last installment hoping for more handfasting and maybe seeing Breen and her books.

  33. I noticed Keegan’s last name changed in The Becoming. He introduced himself as Keegan Byrne in The Awakening . In latest book its Keegan O’Broin. An oversight or different languages? That is in English its Byrne and Talamhish (Gaelic) its O’Broin . 🤔

  34. Love all things Nora, and am so grateful to have a bibliophile for a spouse who is willing to take my kids so I can have spare time to swallow a new book whole on Release Days!!

That said, I did reread book 1 before, and have just finished my 2nd read/listen thru of book 2, and it allowed me to tune back in to all the under currents of the side characters.

Shana as a bad egg I saw coming, and I think Breen has already twigged to the evil bun in the oven. Good for Breen to stuck it to Yseult, she deserves the agony and the diminished powers from healing.

Harken and Morena – it’s about time, but Marg already said he was just waiting until she caught up, so I’m so thrilled for them both!

Marco and Brian – all I was thinking was “don’t kill either of these amazing men off” they are so perfect for each other!

But Breen and Keegan – God, he’s so close to taking that fall (allowing her to be the first and only to share his bed in the Capital, and that last murmured Talamhish phrase against her hair), and she’s not there yet. I can’t wait to see it all wrap up. November 2022 can’t get here soon enough!!

  35. Ms. Roberts… please please please finish book 3 and release it early. I can’t wait a year to find out how the story ends.

I wonder if being a mother will change Shana. Will she love her child her let it be killed to restore Odran’s power?

Will Breen and Keegan pledge before or after the battle with the Big Bad?

Will Sally and Derrick somehow get involved in the battle as they stand for Breen?

How many weddings before the Big Battle? 1? 2?

Will Marco find a way to live in 2 worlds to be with Brian? Will he get over his fear of flying?

Breen saw the necklace (The dragon heart) in the water… the necklace of the taoiseach. She has to choose? Was that to get her dragon or is there more to it? Will she become taoiseach or lead by Keegan’s side?

Will Nan survive or will she sacrifice herself as the one who started it all?

    So many questions…

    1. Can’t write any faster! Just can’t. And I don’t publish, my publisher does—along with a slew of other writers, so there’s the whole scheduling thing, not to mention the editing thing, the production thing, the printing thing, the cover deal and so on.

It really does take time, and I’m still writing book 3. I want it to be good, not fast.

      1. I appreciate you writing as fast as you can. I am in awe of your creative ability!!! and glad you want to be thorough as it adds soooo much to the story!!!

      2. You are doing just great, Ms Nora! We all love your books and your creativity and we can wait patiently for the exceptionally awesome and much anticipated Book 3 to be released in a year. No worries! And hope you enjoy your holidays with your family! ❤️

      3. i know you are correct and i am so willing to wait…….siles i was hoping you would consider a book 4

  36. Still pacing myself so it doesn’t end! Should be finished tomorrow. I know that Ms. Roberts doesn’t like to revisit characters but I have to say, Marco deserves his own story! (Just like the children of the Three Sisters :>)

  37. Oh I listened to becoming so continually and am now going to relisten to get back into their world and catch what I may have missed. It is an awesome series can’t wait for the third book.

  38. Just finished it and I was pacing myself not to rush trough it. Thanks Nora for a beautifully crafted Story! Sigh! Now I have to wait again for the next instalment!

  39. Did anyone else notice Sally hired a new bartender (from Ireland) to replace Marco? Coincidence? Friend or foe? That’s the main thing that’s been on my mind. Hoping everyone in the gayborhood stays safe…as well as our favorite couples in Talamh.

      1. as well as the barmaid there was the quick comment on Jenifer. I wonder how her story will play out too! are the barmaid and Jenifer stories related? So many questions, cant wait!!

      2. as well as the barmaid there was the quick comment on Jenifer. I wonder how her story will play out too! are the barmaid and Jenifer stories related? So many questions, cant wait!!

    1. I had the same concerns and it should be interesting! How does Nora create all these awesome stories with so much detail and description. I finished the audible in record time and went right back to the start again and have heard so much more second time!

    2. Yes, Karen. I wondered about that too. I’m afraid it’s foe (foreshadowing of course).

    3. I did notice the new barmaid mentioned and then there was the quick comment on Jenifer. I wonder how her story will play out too! are the stories related? So many questions, cant wait!!

    4. then there was the quick comment on Jenifer. I wonder how her story will play out too! are the barmaid and Jenifer stories related? So many questions, cant wait!!

    5. as well as the barmaid there was the quick comment on Jenifer. I wonder how her story will play out too! are the barmaid and Jenifer stories related? So many questions, cant wait!!

  40. Nora never disappoints – what an excellent story! Made myself slow down for the details in the story – the battles, verbal or otherwise, were important to keep straight, but oh I wanted to hurry. Very glad I re-read The Awakening last week, had me all primed for storytime. Thanks for an, as usual, awesomely wonderful story.

  41. I’m worried about the new bartender too!!! Friend or foe??? Really hope friend to watch over them.

  42. Thanks so much for a wonder long weekend read………..

I read the first again and then the new one. Enjoyed both so much!

  43. Did I miss something just read about Breen being in water when Keegan found the sword??????

    1. In The Awakening, when he went into the water & held the sword, she appeared in the water & spoke to him. Like a vision.

    2. Reread the prologue of The Awakening (book 1) – she’s the reason Keegan took up the sword in the lake, and he tells her later in the same book!

  44. Random thoughts:
#1 Breen could handle Shana’s insults and slights at the castle because her childhood prepared her for that. Her new confidence was awesome to see. It was realistic that there was some mad hiding in there and I was glad she told Keegan. His reaction was just what it needed to be.
#2 I really like that Breen doesn’t seem to be looking for more attention from Keegan – again her confidence is showing. And that they both agree that the situation is so serious that they can’t focus on each other – until they just can’t resist anymore.
#3 Leadership is sexy on Keegan.

  45. I started by rereading the first book since it had been a while. I absolutely loved The Becoming! The relationships in this book are top notch. They are my favorite thing about the book. The character development of both Breen and Keegan was exceptional. Love Marco and Brian, even if it was a little fast. I love that Nora Roberts can build such an amazing world without it being information overload and overwhelming. I can’t wait for the next one! I only wish it could come sooner.

  46. I loved both books. I went back & listened to The Awakening to get ready for Becoming & thoroughly enjoyed it. I wish there was a glossary or explanation of words/phrases that are in a different language.

    1. I have some gaelic phrase tattoos… mo chrói is my love. Mo bandia is my goddess. I love when Keegan calls Breen that ❤️. I don’t think she knows what it means ❤️

  47. I finished The Becoming this afternoon – pacing my reading like an excellent box of chocolates. This was not a book to be hurried and there were so many layers to each storyline that I look forward to the reread. The care and skill shown in the writing are evident in the reading and I can see why it takes a year to get the next one out. Thanks for absolutely making my Thanksgiving weekend so enjoyable – a lot of cooking followed by complete relaxation thanks to The Becoming and a frig full of leftovers. I admit, I could’ve used Marco’s help on Thursday and would have loved to have most of the Talamh crew (and Derrick and Sally from Philly) around my Thanksgiving table. They feel like friends and that is what happens when I get totally immersed in an excellent book.

  48. i would like to know if there will be a book 3 to the dragon legacy series,,,,if so when will that be available

  49. As a red haired woman who loves Ireland, all things magic, and DRAGONS, this series is tailor made for me!

The Awakening came out when I needed it most. I retired early from work due to chronic illness and had no idea what to do next; this series has been a Godsend! Thanks Nora!

Loving so many characters! Worried about who Nora may have to kill off, but it feels inevitable. Favorites include Marco (of course!), Marg, Sedric, Morena, etc! It’s going to be a long year waiting for the finale…

  50. I’ve been a Nora Roberts fan for many years and am loving the Dragon Heart Legacy series! This second book was all I hoped it would be, and it’s hard to not ramble on about all the things I enjoyed about it. I love Breen’s journey so far, the story, Keegan and Breen’s romance, and all of the characters, but I especially appreciate all the time spent on friendships and the relationships Breen and Keegan have with their family and friends. I really appreciate that Nora spends time developing friendships as well as romantic relationships. I look forward to reading another book with all these characters next November and seeing how this story ends, and I’m especially looking forward to seeing how Breen and Keegan’s relationship continues to develop in the third book now that he seems to have decided to stop holding back! Many thanks to Nora for another wonderful book!

  51. I reread the awakening. I started the becoming last night and I finished it today. Definitely a page turner. I will most definitely reread both the awakening and the becoming before November 2022. Can’t wait!

  52. This book was delayed arriving in stores in Australia, it literally landed nearly a week later than elsewhere. Having said that, I bought it and just finished reading it (boo to needing my day job!!) and I have to say, WOW!! Marco finding Brian, finding I was right about Shana, Morena and Harken FINALLY, Tarryn and Eian (shocked me sideways, let me tell you), more portals, so much more magick and now I realise I have another whole year to wait for book 3! Yet again, Nora has crafted a story with so much depth, heart and fantasy, that I’m left wanting so much more from my own world. I feel as though I just stepped out of Tallamh and its closed to me for now until Nora unlocks it from the other side again. I can’t thank her enough for the journey her books take me on, every time I open the cover of one. I lost my mother 2 years ago and have lived in a world of soul crushing grief since that day; but I pick up any of Nora’s books and for a while, I’m transported to another place, another time, where my grief doesn’t reach me. I’m grateful for this gift she shares with the world. I’m anxiously awaiting November 2022 to continue my journeys through Tallamh and Fey cottage with Breen, Marco, Keegan, bollocks and all who stand with them.

  53. Does anyone else think it is “odd” that the new bartender is from Ireland? I think she is a baddie and Sally and Derrick are in danger. Anyone else?

    1. Yes, I think so, too! I’m very worried something bad will happen to Sally, Derrick and the gang

  54. Hi Nora and Laura,

I just wanted to say that I knew Shana was going to betray them. When she threatened Keegan when he broke things off with her. She’s such a selfish little b***h but gotta wonder what a baby between her and Odran will have power wise. She’s really a nobody. (Cue mean laugh)

  55. the dragon legacy characters are well loved by many………i know it supose to be a trilogy but if so many are like me i read through the books fast and then read them again…….to get to the point i believe you could write more thenone more book and it would come out fine…..when people really love the characters its hard to say good bye ………………..smiles

    1. Really can’t, sorry. Once the story’s told, it’s told. What I try to do is come up with another idea, and other characters that will engage the reader.

  56. I thought I would die waiting for this book. Now I think I’m going to die (figuratively, of course) waiting for the next! I have read ALL of the Nora books from when I was much younger to now and have thoroughly enjoyed each one. My favorites, though, are the Irish books! Filled with all the magic and lore you feel if you are there. Thank you Ms. Roberts!

  57. I have read the first book three times and the second book twice and will do so again. There are all these hidden gems to discover and rediscover when you read them again and again. The story and the details become more clear as you reread through each chapter. I can’t wait for the third addition and hope it clarifies some of the details that leave you hanging as Breen discovers herself and the journey before her.

  58. i really dont see a good ending coming to the story because Breen and Marco are still very connected to there own world…..Breen is very much into her writing ,,,,,,,and Marco will never leave Breen…….and there are alot of things Marco dosent like in the other world i think Keegan will expect too much

    1. I have complete faith in Nora and her ability to not break my heart over Breen and Keegan 😉 Because if those two don’t live happily ever after, my heart will be irreparable. I think I know what The Choosing will entail, but I won’t assume. I will say that’s it’s been mentioned several times that Talamh is capable of “trade” and such with the outside world(s).

    2. Have you read me before? I have no problem coming up with a good and satisfying ending, and not letting the reader down at the end. It’s what I do!

      1. I see the characters evolving and compromising that has been the story essence! They will work things out!! Maybe living near the tree so they can be in both worlds.

      2. IM A 70 YEAR OLD WOMAN …………and for a good many of those years ive been reading your books and have seen at least one was made into a movie…………i just look at all sides of a story …so many ways it can go

      3. I have a 10 shelf book shelf filled with all of your books. I printed up your books in order 10 years ago and bought them all and caught up. I have loved and enjoyed them all until now. I can’t believe the sidekick got a way better relationship than the heroine and the ‘enjoyed’ rape/sodomy with Odran/Shana. I would expect better. Many of your readers are victims and read your books to escape. Putting yourself in their shoes? I can’t buy another book from an author that glorifies such behavior.

        1. Again, as I said below (didn’t see this comment earlier) I’m sorry you didn’t like the book or Marco.

I did NOT glorify the brutal, ugly sex between Odran and Shana, in any way. In fact, I did exactly the opposite. I understand you don’t see it that way, and your view is your view. But a dark, twisted character enjoying, in her dark, twisted way, the violent sex isn’t glorification.

I need to address your opinion I should put myself in the readers’ shoes.

That’s impossible from any creative standpoint as readers are diverse, have individual likes, dislikes, triggers, personal histories. And I certainly don’t know them. If I attempted to put myself in Reader A’s (or Reader Group A’s) shoes, what about Reader or Group Reader B? Or C, or so on?

That’s not my job. My job is to put myself in the characters’ shoes and do my best to bring them to life (for good or ill) for the readers.

  59. More thoughts from re-reading:
    1) Shana – so there’s a bun in the oven. That’s Breen’s – what – cousin? An innocent?
    2) How will Shana react to pregnancy/motherhood? She won’t want to lose her figure, but if it gives her power/leverage she’ll like that.
    3) I would think this isn’t Odran’s only offspring besides Eian.
    4) Actually from The Awakening: One of the funniest lines is when Keegan walks into Sally’s looking for Breen. Marco says, “The Irish God” (his impression of Keegan with the POW). And Keegan answers, ” Not altogether no.” I find that exchange hilarious.

    1. Hi Jan,
      1) I think Shana & Odran’s evil spawn would be Breen’s uncle.
      2) Shana offered herself up to carry all the children he wanted, and then to let him drain them off their power. No turning back now! But, yes that child would surely be an innocent.
      3) The way I read it, if there are more offspring, none are as powerful as Eian, and Breen tops even him.
      4) All of Marco’s exchanges are perfection, and Keegan has a way of getting his entertaining moments in there, too! Love it!

      1. Yes – uncle (or aunt?) makes sense. I had lost a generation!
My guess – not long for the world too. A pawn.
        Thanks!

  60. Hi everyone,
I need to do a little bragging and dancing here. Me the queen 👑 of Library borrows or Kindle downloads when I absolutely can’t wait for an actual book in print means I don’t own paper copies. Today my 16 year old daughter surprised me with 10 hardcover Nora Roberts and JD Robb from a sale at the library. One of them is AWAKENING! So shocked 😲 and pleased. So proud of my baby 👧. We will both have a wonderful Christmas. She knows her mother well! Doing the happy ☺ dance💃.

  61. I didn’t think Nora would ever put rape and sodomy in one of her books and say that it was ‘enjoyed’ really? Everyone loves this? What happened to the Breen heroine story line with Keegan. It disappeared and instead the sidekick who is arrogant and too over the top, like still in middle school with his comments and actions, gets a love story that the heroine doesn’t? I will not be spending money on book 3. No way.

  62. First, I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy the book.

I don’t recall it as rape, but then again, I wrote that scene over a year ago, so my memory may be faulty. But I recall Shana as both willing and eager at the outset. That said, if it’s considered rape, it’s rape by an evil god, and shown, clearly, imo, as dark and evil. And her enjoyment is far from healthy or normal, as her character is neither healthy or normal. I think that was clear as well.

These are dark, evil characters who do dark, evil deeds.

I also recall much progress and movement in the relationship story between Breen and Keegan. Conversations, more understanding between them and a deeper connection. As it’s a trilogy, their relationship will continue to evolve and deepen in the final book.

It’s not the center of the story, as Breen’s journey is the core. But it’s a vital part of that journey.

As for Marco, I’m also sorry you don’t like his character. While I don’t see his love story as overshadowing Breen’s, I felt he deserved one, and very much enjoyed matching him with Brian.

Obviously, the book didn’t meet your expectations, and that’s always a disappointment.

    1. Nora, I did not view the “relationship” between Shana and Odran as anything other than you intended—sick, twisted evilness. In my opinion, it was needed to put emphasis on the dire situation looming over the worlds. Keegan has been prepared for this, but it has weighed heavy on him. Breen is learning. Marco’s love story highlights what the impending war is really all about.

      1. right? Odran is so evil, I mean the man sacrifices children and killed his own son, kidnapped his baby granddaughter, etc. Hard to believe he would have a gentle loving relationship with a evil traitor, or she with him, so this seemed right on par for him/her. I can’t help if wonder if Odran has a spell on her though because I thought the castle he was in was black and half burned or mostly destroyed or something and yet she sees beautiful clothing, glory and gold and jewels. Well Nora will let us know when it is time.

and Marco … I love him. He brings happiness to everyone and a solid base for Breen who has a lot going on, some if which is just trying to not getting beaten up by Keegan while practicing. I love him and I love the relationship with Brian, because love is love and this book makes no mistake on that.

Keegan and Breen seem more in tune with each other, a better understanding of each other in this book. They are learning each other and falling in love. So obvious.

Loved this one, love them all. Your story makes me want to walk through a portal and sit by a fire with wine.

    2. I am sorry to to see the the judging of what is written into an awesome story. The black connection with Shana is sadly what is happening in our world and as in the book there are people working to stem its spread. The blackness for me makes the goodness even more powerful. I find a lot of human awareness in these books and love the growth. Thank you for a story with so much to offer on so many levels!!

  63. It never fails to amaze me the crass and rude comments given to an author who does what she loves and provides such enjoyment to the majority of people who read her work.
I understand that everyone has their own opinion that they are free to express, but it hurts my heart to read the rudeness. I will continue to enjoy, love and even dislike some of Nora’s books but I guess I just can’t belong to groups like this that hurt my heart. And no, I am not a snowflake whose feelings are hurt, it hurts my heart to read such abuse of anyone!

  64. Don’t let your heart hurt, Lori. Anyone who’s been in the business as long as I have has very thick skin. And knows not everyone understands how to articulate an opinion without crossing into the rude.

  65. Just posting a bit of a lament here: I was saving The Becoming for Christmas, as I don’t like this time of year, and was hugely disappointed yesterday to find that the biggest bookshop in Manchester, the second or third biggest city in England, had no copies at all. Supply is really very patchy here, so I’ll probably download it as an e-book, but I would have been happier with a lovely new hardback. Fantasy isn’t really my genre, but I was hooked by the first book (last copy on the shelf, bought in Manchester!).

      1. Quite a few shortages at the moment! Just finished reading the e-book of The Becoming with great pleasure after rereading The Awakening – so worth the wait! Lovely to pick up the main characters again and the chilling encounters between Shana and Odran really highlight the contrast between the worlds. Shana has found her niche!
As for Breen’s brilliant dog, he’d just need a quick name change for publication of his stories in Ireland and the UK…

  66. I loved this book I can’t wait for the third I was sorry to finish it wanted it to go on and on

  67. I have a couple of questions… In the Awakening, it’s said Shana’s brother fought beside Keegan. In the Beginning, it’s written she’s an only child. Did I miss something? Also, Shana says her mother is Keegan’s mother’s best friend, but it’s that not Kiara’s mother? I realize neither of the observations make any difference to the story/plot (which I LOVE!) but I wanted to know if I missed something along the way.

    1. Hi. I had a little confusion with that too on my first reading. I don’t remember anything about Shana having a brother. On the other matter, Keegan’s mother’s best friend is KIARA’s mother, I think – and Kiara though of Shana as HER best friend. Shana’s father is a valued member on the council. Anyway, I too had a little trouble following the family connections. I could have used a flow chart!

      1. In the Awakening, when Keegan is going to visit Shana at night, it reads, “Shana, whose father served on the council, whose brother had fought by his side….”. Then, also on the Awakening, when Shana and Kiara are preparing for the dance, it reads, “The fact that Shana’s mother stood as Tarryn’s closest friend and confidant, sometimes meant little bits and bites from the taoiseach’s mother and hand eked through.”

    2. I’d say I missed something! So I’m going to deal with that by saying Shana’s brother died in battle-making her an only child! My mistake.

Shana overstated the relationship between her mother and Keegan’s. They were, however, friends.

      1. Thank you! I just thought I’d missed something. Absolutely immersed and in love with the Dragon Heart Legacy… My favorite, until you come out with my next favorite ☺️

    3. I came here to ask exactly that. I got so obsessed with the Dragon Heart Legacy that I constantly re-hear (audiobooks) them. I’m just so deeply in love with all of it. Now during my latest re-listening I stumbled across that what you mentioned.

  68. This series 100% needs to become a movie!!! I’m absolutely loving it and can’t wait for the third book!!!

  69. Just as good as the first book, if not better. I love that Breen is not naive as so many characters are written. Breen is a writer and writer see to observing, so she is aware of other characters and their motivations.
