Social media round up

Things are pretty much up to date here on the blog in terms of Nora’s thoughts (social media is still abuzz after the Bite Me post) and the big news (Cousins O’Dwyer series).  But there are a couple of things that have only appeared on Facebook. Maybe it was too much for Instagram, or too complicated, that’s why some people better go off and buy Instagram likes.

First, I’ve been posting the original covers of the In Deaths since January 1 — as that was 40 days until the Obsession in Death (book 40) release date of February 10.  Today’s post was Imitation.

Nora’s publisher teamed with several blogs for rereads of three In Death books.  All the details are on the USA Today Happy Ever After blog.  There are prizes involved so make sure you visit Happy Ever After and the other blogs in the next few weeks.

Speaking of Obsession, I plan to have a teaser post starting February 3 here on the blog so stay tuned.

On the Nora Facebook page, I mentioned how excited Nora and I are that Sarah Addison Allen is among the writers scheduled to appear at the Turn the Page Bookstore event on February 7. Just before Nora left on vacation in 2010, I handed her Sarah’s Garden Spells and told her it was the perfect book for a vacation. Nora loved it and promptly read the rest of Sarah’s backlist.  If you’re looking for magical reads this winter, you can’t go wrong with Sarah’s books.   The authors rounding out the line up on February 7 are Nora’s dear pal Ruth Langan who has a new series out under her RC Ryan pen name, Sarah MacLean, Kristen Proby, Teri Wilson and children’s author Tara Bell.

Finally, I’m having a bit of knee surgery at the end of January and asked for advice on what to read during recovery (I’ll be leaning/sitting on a stool at the February 7 event). If you have any thoughts, please share in the comments.

  1. Wishing you all the best on your knee surgery, Laura. I need a hip replacement but due to heart issues, probably not going to happen, sigh :(. As for books to read, have you read the Outlander series? My daughter in law wants me to read it since I’m hooked on the series, so that’s on my TBR list. Of course, anything Nora/JD is a good bet, but I expect you’ve read them all by now!! I love to re-read her trilogies the best. Anyway, blessings that all will go well and you’ll heal fast.

    1. Hi Alice,

Outlander has been a repeat recommendation so I may have to give it a try.

      Thank you!
      Laura

  2. Best wishes on the knee surgery! Try Vitamin E oil on the scar as soon as it’s closed, the scars on my hand after carpel tunnel surgery are nearly invisible thanks to the oil. Just finished Jayne Ann Krentz’s “Trust No One” and loved it – highly recommend you put that on the pile!

    1. Hi Paula,

I’ve definitely stocked up on homeopathic remedies for post surgery skin care. Thanks for the reminder of Vitamin E. Fortunately, it’s arthroscopic surgery so the incisions should be small.

I haven’t visited JAK in a while. Good recommendation.

  3. Laura,
I am so sorry you have to experience knee surgery, but wish you all the best in recovery. You mentioned books to read for your recovery. Here are a few I have or am enjoying now: Outlander by Diana Gabaldon , Raeanne Thayer’s Snow Angel Cove, Fern Michaels Eyes Only, Brad Thor’s Black List ( really liked this one) , Brenda Novak’s The Heart of Christmas, Jane Smiley’s Some Luck and The Girl on the Train( don’t know the author–sorry. Also All The Light You Cannot See. The last few I bought last night but haven’t had a chance to read. I decided against All the Light No One Sees because I read 23 pages and could not get into it. And of course all of Nora’s book you might not have read. I hope this list helps you & keeps you happily reading for months.
I did ask if the Fall In to it bookstore had a stamp of Nora’s signature or if she actually signed them herself. Would appreciate your answer. Of course I would love to meet Nora in person & I’ll work on that.
Good luck & many blessings on your upcoming surgery. Marsha

    1. Three evenings per week, after a full day of work, Nora signs books ordered from Turn the Page.

      Laura

  4. Sorry I got the name of the bookstore wrong, but hope you understand.

  5. Good luck on the surgery!

I’ve just dived into “Paris” by Edward Rutherfurd: great history and personalities that are walking around this great city.

    1. I’ve seen Paris — Edward Rutherford believes in big books, doesn’t he? Will have to put it on the list.

      Laura

  6. Sorry to hear about your upcoming surgery. Please get plenty of rest after. While you are resting , try out the Pendergast Series, authors, Lincoln and Child. The first book being, The Relic. A very hard-to-put-down book.
I wish you a speedy recovery.

  7. Hope your knee surgery goes well. Have you read Nalini Singh’s Psy/Changeling series? That’s a fun one to glom.

    1. GMTA! In 2011 I found Nalini Singh and Thea Harrison and spent a hugely satisfying summer reading their backlists (though Thea was mainly front list). Now I pre-order their books as soon as they are listed.

      Really fun to glom.

  8. Your knee, my shoulder – I see quality reading time in our futures. I’ll try and hold off reading Sarah Addison Allen’s newest until the April surgery. Since your recommendation, she’s remained one of my favorites.

If you haven’t read the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness, I’d say to give them a go. Science, magic, romance and beautifully written.

    Wym

    1. I don’t think I’d be able to wait until April Wym. But then again, you are a strong woman of great heart so you’ll withstand the temptation.

Will add Deborah Harkness to the list. If Math had been part of your description, I’d have had to pass. But science I can handle.

      xo

  9. Laura,
Surgery sucks, sorry you have to have it, however, while you’re laid up, I strongly recommend any book by Lisa Kleypas. If you haven’t read her books before, I would start with The Hathaways series. Truly addictive. Happy reading and quick healing!

    ~Anne

  10. Hi Laura,
All the best to you with your surgery.
Nice to hear what all people are recommending for you to read. For sure anything by Diana Gabaldon, and Deborah Harkness, but Cathy Lamb’s books are also addicting, no matter which one you choose.
You’re going to need more time off to read all of our recommendations!!!

  11. Absolutely all the best on your forthcoming surgery. Not a fun thing to go through but a must for pain free mobility. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery. Just finished reading a 4 book “Lonesome Lawman” series on my Kindle by Pauline Baird Jones. VERY…VERY… enjoyable. You fall in love with the characters and the writing and plots are great. Get well soon. Say “hi” to Nora for me….I haven’t been able to see her at an RWA conference since 2012. Hope to make it to NY.

    Good lucky with the surgery…
    The purple one!

  12. If you are still looking for something to read post surgery, you might try the 7 book Sunrunner series by Melanie Rawn – it’s an older series, but I really like it. Lots of drama, twists and turns to the plot, great characters, and dragons.

    Vicki

  13. Good luck with knee surgery. Read A Man Called Ove, Fredrick Backman.
