Shelter in Place excerpt

Shelter in Place is Nora’s “big” book for 2018. (Isn’t the cover gorgeous?)  We waited until the Year One release was a bit further back before bringing Shelter front and center.

Here’s a  quick description:

Sudden violence turned a typical evening at a mall into a nightmare. Those who survived the chaos and carnage would find their lives forever changed. One would dedicate himself to law enforcement, determined to find answers and justice. Another would struggle to block off all memories of that horrible night, pouring her emotions into her art.

I’ll add to the description and we’ll discuss Shelter in Place much more over the coming months leading up to the May 29 release.  For now, here’s an excerpt.

  2. I’m in a Nora Roberts Facebook groups. One of the girls got this book in a used book shop. She’s posted a picture to prove it. I thought it wasn’t due released till May ?

    1. It’s not released until May. If that person turned the book over, it says on the back: ADVANCE READERS’ COPY – NOT FOR RESALE.

    2. The only possible way she got it is if someone have away an arc copy. Very unlikely.

  3. Oh my! How long do we have to wait? May 29? Thank goodness I’ve already placed my pre-order.

  5. Can’t read the excerpt because it would just frustrate me that I can’t curl up in a corner somewhere and finish it. Will be purchasing this book on May 29th, no question. I think I would be willing to pay to read Nora’s grocery list! Loooong time reader!

  8. Why do I keep doing this to myself? I willingly read the excerpts knowing they’ll be great, knowing I’ll get sucked in and want to read the novel right then, and knowing I have to wait. Nora is my queen.

  9. Wow, another one that grabbed me from the start. It also kind of scared me because in the world today, this could really happen. Thinking positive though and very much looking forward to reading it.

  10. Sounds great, looking forward to this book…scary yes but in today’s world, you need to know. And there will be a good ending to this story.

  21. I’m still completely involved with Year One. Just finished reading it for the 3rd time. I keep picking up new things and finding my mind drifting to “what would I do” questions. When is Year One’s next issue expected? Year Two or skip to Year Fifteen or Thirty or whatever. Give us a hint

    1. The second book is Of Blood & Bone and is out December 4. Hints to come later in the year.

    1. Lol, sometimes feels that way. ? However, Nora puts out more books per year than any other author I know of, if you count her J.D. Robb books. I don’t know how she does it and still has a life. I’m in awe.

  22. Looking forward to this release…who am I kidding…I look forward to every one of her releases!

    1. I can’t even read Year One until I have all 3…..may have to give in & read it… Probly be ready to reread by time #3. Gets out! Hahaha! Love any Nora book! Who am I kidding, I reread over & over……

  23. Great excerpt, wishing it was coming sooner than later. Because wondering why were they laughing is the little boys mother and the first girls friends.

  24. Captivating doesn’t even begin to describe this excerpt. I will patiently wait for May, knowing that it will be worth it. Looking forward to Blood and Bone as well! I am and always will be a loyal reader who appreciates the genius creativity that Nora bestows upon us, not once, but usually twice, or even three times a year!

  25. Wow!! Talk about drawing you in! For a second there, I forgot I was only reading an except instead of the actual finished book. I cannot wait for the release.

  26. I now have to patiently wait for May, and I am not known for my patience! Looks like Nora’s done it again!

  27. As someone who volunteers with disaster response and is studying Public Health with a goal of working in emergency management, I’m interested to see how the initial act affects the characters throughout their lives. This may be the book I’m most excited about in all of 2018!

  28. WOW I cannot wait to read this one!!! I was riveted to the excerpt.

  29. Can’t wait for this to come out. Wait a minute I can’t wait for any of her books to come out, between two of my girls , my husband and I I’m on the third or fourth copy of some of her books, which I have every one

  38. Laura,
    I need some help with my reading selection. I buy and read every JD Robb In Death series books. I love the conflict, love story, stability and continuity of the characters.

    I’ve also read these trilogies and enjoyed them very much:
    Sea Swept, Rising Tides, Inner Harbor and Chesapeake Blue;
    Dances Upon The Air, Heaven on Earth, and Face The Fire;
    and Birthright don’t think this one has a series.

    I don’t know the trilogies when I find a book I like so sometimes I just don’t pick it up. I’d like to expand my reading collection as I continuously reread my novels.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  39. Why, why, why do I do this to myself??? I know better than to read the excerpts, esp. this far out, but I do it every time, I just can’t resist. Now (and I mean NOW) I want to read the book but I have 3 months till release date. Deep sigh, and I do it to myself. I tell myself, don’t wish away the days…but I’m not listening!

    That poor gal, in the throes of teen love. Reminds me of what I do not miss of the teen years!

  40. I have preordered evry new Nora ROberts/JD Robb book since 2012, ad would be happy to preorder Shelter In Place, but I will read the exerpt and just count the days until I can order the book. 🙁
