Last night at 12:05 am I was haunting my Kindle Library looking for OB&B, but it hadn’t loaded yet, so I abandoned my plan to sneak in a few chapters before bed. I did consider calling in sick today to read but I finally slogged to work instead of celebrating Dec 4 like the Total Nora Holiday it should be. I’ve never had a book impact me like Year One. I haven’t reread a book cover to cover since I was a kid. Only 4 hours to go before I get to read the book I’ve been waiting for nearly a year. Thank you Nora for these wonderful characters and for this amazing book, the wait was worth it!
Got the English ebook today and just finished it. I am a quick reader even though English is my second language. Could’t wait for the Dutch translation. I loved it!!!!

How old is Fallon by the end of this book?
Honestly, I’m hazy as I wrote the book nearly two years ago. But she’d be 17 or 18 at the end.
Are you *sure* this will only be a trilogy? I feel like there are so many characters I want to explore more than just one more book will allow. I love this series, this world, watching it get re-built and the dark and light…. Obviously written by a master of her art. ❤️

I was thinking (hoping!) the same thing! Just finished the book….it was a Christmas gift…and all I can say is WOW! I would love to see this series continue beyond a trilogy! Nora knocks them out of the park continuously…as Nora and JD Robb. Glad a new In Death is coming next month!

She is 16 when their family arrive in New Hope. Add 2 years for Duncan to be away in training and Dallin told him they would go to DC in two years. So that would be when he gets back and that would make her 18 then.

There’s no exact date, just the end of September. She was conceived January 1 so 9 months later.

In Year One, when Lana had her 1st exam by Rachel, the Dr. predicted the baby’s due date would be Sept. 25th.
I believe 16
She turned 16 a little before they left the farm, so still only 16 at the end of the book, I think.

Fallon was 16 when they left the farm. It was August when they got to New Hope. She would turn 17 in September. Duncan and Tonia should already be 18. Yes, it got confusing, but I think this is right.
I got lost at the end of the book with the journey to New Hope in terms of months. How old is Fallon at the end of this new book?
She came back to her parent’s farm @ 15 but I’d say 16 by the end of the book, Makes sense she’s be 18 when her and Duncan reunite. I can’t wait for the next one already

I was shocked who Petra was, did not see that coming.
I thought the struggles Fallon had with being homesick and wanting to be back on the farm were very realistic.

I’m a big fan of Nora Robert’s books. I have every book she has written. I’ve read all of them more than once or twice, with the exception of “Come Sundown”. I can’t do that one for personal reasons. I made it into chapter 3.
I really hoped “Chronicles ” meant it would be a new series like the “ In Death” series. I absolutely love this trilogy and genuinely regret that it isn’t going to be a new series.
My sister and I order all of Nora’s books early and share the joy. We were actually plotting to stay up late and read and lamenting trying to drag ourselves into work when the National Day of Mourning was announced & since we work for tge Government we get to read (absolutely no disrespect to President Bush intended but we love her books)
My kindle says I’ve read about 40%, and have shed about 80% tears. So many beautiful, moving passages that leave me beyond verklempt. So cinematic, powerful moments, each reveal about my beloved New Hope tribe makes me wanna join up to protect that little village. Can’t wait to finish work and settle in with my Kindle!
Cinematic is a great word to describe Nora’s writing. You can seenit in the books and the travelogues. You think you were there andnyou want to know these people. Even the bad ones. ?Waiting patiently for my copy which my niece has probably read in one day and will bring to me later today so I can also devour it in a day.
I am really loving this new series. Love Fallon and her relationship with her dads. It was nice to see the reunion of Lana and the residents of New Hope. So true that no matter what we can always trust people to be assholes. ?. I enjoyed watching Duncan and Fallons relationship develop. When can we expect an excerpt for the final book??
Also, as this series is a departure from your usual one couple hea for one book, do you think you will revisit this world? Or will the final book of The One be the last we see of this world?
Got my e-book yesterday morning. Made myself be a grown up (67) went to exercise class to grocery store, paid bills, and fixed supper before I started to read. Started reading around 6:30 didn’t put it down till I finished at 12:45am. I am a fast reader. Loved the book. It wasn’t as intense as the first one. It didn’t need to be. Instead it let us see Fallon , a child turning into a woman. It answered a lot of questions I had after the first book and left me with more to be answered in the next one. A year is a long time to wait but I know I will spend it rereading both books. Thank you Nora for writing books I love to reread, not all authors can do that.

I am really loving this new series. I know it’s not the normal romance but I am really enjoying this new direction. Fallons relationship with her dads and lanas reunion with the new hope crew were highlights of the book. Fallon and Duncan’s developing relationship also was something I’m very anxious to read about in the final book. When can we expect an excerpt????

My library goofed and I got it the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Finished by Monday. Now buying on my Nook on my phone so I can reread. Nora is the only author now living that I stay up late reading. Loved the book, but can’t wait for the last. Sigh. On to the next JD Robb in February.

The second book, following Year One just came in the mail today. I am so excited to start reading it. But I will wait a bit. Because like every book that excites me, once I start then I know soon I will reach the end. And when you love a story, immerse yourself in it, you never want it to end. I have read so many of your series. But this one was so entirely different. I love it. Thank you. A reader whose childhood was made bearable by the stories in books.
Great follow up to the first book! It seriously exceeded my expectations. Wasn’t sure what the timeline of the book would be. It was fast paced but also covered so much detail and time. I’m going to have to re-read it again more slowly and write down all the characters to keep everyone straight.
Now I’m trying to find out when the next book will be released!! I’m really hoping it’s not a year again!
Also – how many books will there be? I feel like this can easily be 5 or more books!

The book is just incredible! I’m not ashamed to admit I cried when Fallon met Eddie, and when she returned to the farm, and when Lana arrived back in New Hope. It was such fun following Fallon as she became who she was meant to be.
Thank you Nora for such a great read and thank you God for giving Nora such incredible talent and a fertile imagination.
I was proud of myself for figuring out Petra was the mole. It was one of those 2am revelations that wake one from a sound sleep. I did not figure her to be Eric and Allegra’s child. Marvelous book. My question is how long until we get the teaser for the third book??? Again, great job and have a wonderful holiday season.

Went to a local store to get it yesterday and found another lady looking for it too. We ended up having 3 staff members looking for it in the stock room. Luckily they found it. Now I’m finished and I honestly thought it was even better than the first. The development of Fallon’s character was excellent. I loved that she’s not depicted as the perfect saviour but a real, multidimensional person.
The ending surprised me too, which is always a good thing because that means I was caught up in the story, not thinking about where it was going.
I can’t wait for the next one.

I’ve been reading the Outlander series since it started in 1991. The time frame between books is painful! But so worth the wait. At least we only have a year between NR’s! I’m loving the direction of this new series.

All I can say is WOW! I finished it 5 minutes ago, and I can still feel it in my soul.
This book was Amazing!!! I loved it!!! Usually I wait, for all books in the trilogy to be out before I read them. But read Year One last year, and after rereading it again, before OB&B, it’s cemented it’s place as one of the best books I’ve read, now Of Blood and Bone is up there too. Everything you write, Nora is amazing. Thank you for everything you give to the reader.
Looking forward to sleeping tonight – just finished reading the kindle edition. Loved it! Really pulls you in and you feel so connected with the characters’ journey. Need to stop reading Nora on the train as this one had me in tears a few times! What an amazing gift to move so many people through what you write.

I almost always reread a book about two weeks before the sequel. It just brings it all back fresh.
I love it more than Year One. Oh my gosh, I love it. Savoring it like good chocolate, hoping it won’t end. Already my heart has filled and tears have spilled and Fallon is still learning.
Love the book; that’s a given. I was just curious about why you turned a certain thing to glass. Did you know about vitrification or was it just serendipity? Regardless, it was a brilliant detail.

I was wondering this too – I saw Laura’s reply below but I thought I read the same as Dawn in the passages leading up to Fallon’s departure.
There is a scene early in Chapter One where Fallon and Simon are discussing Lana being pregnant but in the scene Fallon is six, Lana is pregnant with Ethan. Maybe that is what you are remembering.
Okay, read through that part again — even though ittalks about the child growing inside her, it was actually referring to past tense — I understand now 🙂

I thought the same thing. Fallon is talking to her dad and says “ it’s a boy, why does it have to be a another boy” (paraphrasing) I’ll have to go back to look for that part of the book. She’s almost 13 and hasn’t left home yet…
That scene takes place when Lana is pregnant with Ethan. I think Fallon is 6.
I had the same question. She tells Simon it’s a boy.
Back amongst books: on page 20 it says Fallon was six when Simon discovered her looking at Max’s book and tells him Lana is having another boy.

I am really excited about this series and so far I love the books. I have one question is there a baby missing from Lana and Simon’s family? Unless I read it wrong Lana was pregnant again when Fallon left for training. When she returns there is no mention of the baby boy Lana was expecting.
I also have the same question. We her about all the other babies that were expected but this one was sort of forgotten.
On P. 20 it reads “Once when she was only six, she’d curled up in the library with one of Max Fallon’s books…” Simon finds her and they have that conversation about Max. At the end of it, Fallon tells Simon that Lana is carrying a boy. Seven years later she leaves and Ethan is the boy.

Your first book, Year One, came to my attention through Kobo. I’ve never read any of your books before but OMG! I could not put it down. Not since Stephen King or Robert McCammon have a I read an end of the world story so captivating and engrossing. Even better – this is a series!!!! Purchased Blood and Bone the day it was released. Read it over the weekend! Amazing. Not sure whether any of your other series are of a similar vein. I’m primarily sci-fi/fantasy/horror but I’m checking out your other stories now. Thank you so very much. I look forward to reading the next one when it’s released. Depending on when, I may just re-read the first two!
In my opinion this is the first trilogy she’s done like this but they are all great. If you want something in fantasy I recommend her Guardians trilogy to start.
Then I’d recommend The Cousins O’Dwyer series. It’s my favourite Nora Roberts series, I absolutely loved it. I’m gradually making my way through all NR books then will commence the JD Robbs
I just started it on audio CD and the narration is wonderful. The narrator’s voice work is amazing and it brings such life to the characters and story. In particular, her tenderness brings tears to my eyes every time. Well chosen for this series!

What a great read!!!!! I re-read the first one in anticipation of this one and was glad I did. One of the things I like about all of the books written by Nora Roberts (including JD Robb) is that she makes the impossible seem perfectly normal! The stories about the elves and fairies and witches and everyone else don’t seem too outlandish. Waiting another whole year for the last of the series is going to be painful but, I am sure, totally worth the wait!
All I can say is that it was amazing…the writing , the character development and interactions. Amazing flow of the events. Dialogue that made me feel the connection between the characters…and we get to see Fallon become who she was meant to be…with two fathers who have supported and loved her through it all, and she gets to see her powerful mother fight along side of her. Nora never disappoints…such a great story.

My mother introduced me to NR/JDR in the 90’s. I have not missed any of her books. Last December when Year One came out, my mother was sick, so we were able to read it right away. In January we found out she was terminal. I finished Year One by my mothers bedside on the day she died. This year, when the Book 2 came, i hesitated reading it. I finally went back and read book 1 then plunged head first into book 2. This story is something so different, but so familiar. NR books will always have a special meaning for me. Thank you for sharing your talent with all of us.
I so enjoyed this book. The characters jump off the page and I see them so clearly. My favourite from this book is Mallick. Teaching his young student all of the mystical craft and rounding out her education with history, math, geography etc reminded me of Summerset doing similar with Roarke. Although the ‘craft’ in that case was a different sort. Thank you Nora for so many hours of delicious reading.
Have you finished writing Book 3? If so, is there any possibility of our getting it early? I love the first two books and can hardly wait for the finale. I think I have seen some foreshadowing I Book 2. You are so talented.

I was lucky enough to get a surprise ARC of this book and read it back in October. Then had to wait to be able to gush. I absolutely loved it and I admit I was nervous. Year One was soo good and I loved the characters so much but I’m not in to young adult as much advI use to be and knowing we were now getting into Fallon… plus middle stories in trilogies are usually darker. But OMG what could I have been thinking!?! This is the Queen Of Characterizations and there’s absolutely Zero disappointments. This series should be big budget on the Big Screen. When I see so many stupid books getting made into movies I have to wonder. Thank you Nora for sharing this amazing journey. How to wait for Book 3???

I have already read it twice more. Just as great as Year One. Bummed that it will be so long for the next but will manage to entertain myself reading them back-to- back and catch some JD Robb and single print from Nora while I wait. Big thumbs up from this reader and fan.
Another awesome read from Nora!! Some of my favorite moments were Fallon getting to spend time with Max, learning that Eddie and Fred are together and working on have a huge family, Fallon’s interaction with her brothers and her relationship with Simon. I am so looking forward to book 3!!
I’m still reading Of Blood and Bones, Trying to make it last I only have 100 pages left. It is a good story, although I’m 69 and not really into fantasy. I love the In Death books haven’t missed a one even the halves , my Nook color has over a hundred of NR/JDR books and when ever I want to read I just look up one of them because I know It will be an enjoyable read..
Just finished this morning. Great followup to Year One. This is not normally my type of series but I’ve enjoyed both books. I was amazed at how quickly the details from the first book popped into my head as I read the second, even though it had been a year since I read the first book. That’s the mark of truly memorable characters. Thank you, Nora! Looking forward to the next chapter in this exciting saga.

Of Bone and Bone is so much better than Year One. Perhaps it’s because vol. 1 was so miserably depressing. I couldn’t even reread it in prep for vol. 2. However, my question is: Has anyone plotted out all the families, like a genealogy by settlement? I keep getting pulled out of the story when I try to figure out who a character is. Would help to have a visual chart like Nora has in the front matter of her family sagas. If I break down and make one, I’ll post it.

I totally agree with y’all. I just finished Of Blood and Bone, and now I don’t know what to read. I guess I will look for another Nora Roberts book to re-read for the 5th time. No one writes like her. Can’t wait until November 2019!

I have read every book that Nora has written, but that does not include JD Robb. I do not care for doom and gloom or futuristic.
I and most of my friends favor her hard book romantic mysteries.
I always have to read a book more than once. you don’t really know what you’ve missed until you read it again. the good books are the ones that you turn back to page one after you’ve reached the end 7 or 8 times before you can move on to another book. Nora has soo many books out there that you could reread. you would be surprised at what you’ve forgotten, or missed the first time. Thanks for being the kind of author who writes books I can do this with.

It is a testament to Nora’s superior writing skills that I am enjoying this trilogy. Normally it not the type of story I like but even in an apocalyptic setting she infuses a sense of humor, family, love etc… and draws me in. Hats off to an exceptional author.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!! I just finished it yesterday. Just hard cored the last 2+ hours as I couldn’t stop. I found myself holding my breath, many times with my heart just pounding. I absolutely loved the development of Fallon. Nora you are so awesome at remembering and writing how a 13 year old acts. (the One or not) The sibling interactions made me think back 50 years to my own. Then the training and weight of responsibility realized in one so young made me ache for her. Thank you for the continued stories of the group from the 1st book. I liked seeing where time had taken them and how they built their lives and community. I, for myself anyway, see a disturbing parallel in the current tempestuous times now, and the future in the book. Having to make choices about accepting those different, choosing community, and taking a moral high ground as opposed to grasping for power and control at the expense of others. I appreciate that I always find the need to challenge myself to aspire to be and do better after I read one of your books. That said I CAN HARDLY STAND THE WAIT FOR BOOK 3! Guess I’ll be working on my patience. Great job!
The book made it clear that Duncan had to be one of “the three” to eradicate the bombs (Nukes, ICMB’s). If he is leaving for 2 years, what about the bombs? Fallon was on a mission to do this before the major battles began. Did I miss something?
Am I the only one who considers that Allegra is the daughter of the commander of the Purity Warriors ?!? Reverend and Commander Jeremiah White ?!? We weren’t told of her last name but I think if she is not his child she is somehow important in his life. Or maybe was so before The Doom ?!?
I haven’t read the books yet but have listened to both both on Audible countless times. As I was given both books foe xmas I am so looking forward to actually reading them. I so absolutely love this new direction Ms. Roberts has taken with this trilogy. Is it a trilogy ? They are called ‘the chronicles of the one’ so perhaps there can be more then only 3 books ?!!? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the chronicles became an ongoing series like the In Death books ?? As much as I would adore something like that I also love the other books by Nora Roberts writes. However if it would be possible for anyone to write 3 plus books/year it would be NR ❣

I’ve read every single Nora Roberts story, but not every single JD Robb story. I have to say, I think this is the best writing Nora has ever done. Year One and Of Blood and Bone were a completely new road for her and a total immersion for me as a reader. I devoured Year One, exactly as I have every other Nora story, in a matter of hours, but after the freshness of Year One, I decided to slowly read Of Blood and Bone. I read each sentence carefully, savoring it. Very few writers could shift genre so smoothly, so far along in their careers. I am blown away by what Nora has created with The Chronicles of The One. As a writer myself, it feels amazing to witness such a transformation in another writer. I’ll always be a fan no matter what, but…more of this, please! Incredible, Nora! Thank you!!!
I am recently an audiobook addict. I listened to Of Blood and Bone. Then after reading the ebook last summer of Year One, I went back and bought the audiobook for it. They are excellent!!
I don’t want to sound greedy…. but, when can see expect book 3?

Had to really sit back and digest the story we’ve gotten so far. I read the first book again prior, and was amazed at how much I’d forgotten when I was sure it was seared into my mind. Inhaled the second story, then went through more carefully the second time. How the two blended together when the first was mostly global and the second was so focused was beautifully done. People, being mostly smart about using what’s available to them, are also starting to re-engineer how they live as supplies left behind by the deaths of 80% plus of the population start to grow scarce. I grinned at DVD night, envisioning the kids gawking at what was “normal” before the pandemic. I wondered if the 13-year jump would be successful for the trilogy and it was perfect. It showed how people survived – the good and the bad – and how kids were having to grow up much sooner than their parents, which goes back to earlier times when responsibilities landed early. The tribal aspect of the groups of shifters, faeries, etc., were exactly what to expect when a world is shaken to the core. I was a bit dazed at how well things were explained and taken care of in so many aspects of life. I normally wait a month or two before re-reading a great book, but I only waited until I’d finished what HAD to go back to the library that week, then dove back in for a re-read of both stories together. Really, really enjoying this ride – many thanks!
I read and reread Year One at least 10 times over the last year. It is an incredible book with surprisingly rich characters for such a short story that jumps around into so many different heads. Its heart wrenching and beautiful. Though that’s generally typical of the amazing NR.
So… I was dissatisfied that Of Blood and Bone didn’t have the same depth. Nora Robert’s has Long been a queen of character development and just making you believe the people love on beyond the pages.
However of Blood and Bone, the characters (with the exception of Fallon) came off as parodies or caricatures of ones shes written before. I have seen this in other books shes written recently and I’d be very sad if her characters continue to lose their substance.
I think I’m going to disagree Jean. Year One introduced us to the main characters. Of Blood and Bone, to my mind, introduced and fleshed out a couple of these characters, such as Mallick, further and moved the story along at a nice clip. Yes, there were a fair number of new/secondary characters in Book 2 but I wouldn’t expect the same in-depth background story for all of these characters unless they have a larger role to play in book 3 (and hopefully book 4, 5, etc – please Nora) in which case, Nora will probably expand on them in book 3 as she did with Mallick in book 2. You can’t know every detail for potentially, a cast of hundreds. I am truly sorry you felt disappointed. I was literally entranced and spellbound. I couldn’t put the book down.
I completely agree with Tyronne. The first 2 books were riveting. I expect nothing less in Book 3. Thank you Nora, AGAIN.
Maybe this is in here somewhere, but I’d love to know where the Celtic goddess/gods/mythology in the books come from: are there specific books on Celtic religion Nora would recommend?
I just want to add my voice to this choir-Nora, you just amaze me with your talent! Thank you for this beautiful tale… I received this book for Christmas, but had to wait to start it because I was on the fourth book in the Bride Quartet, and I don’t like to start reading another book until I finish the current one- (even though I’ve read and re-read BQ several times- oh, to have Parker’s closet!!)
I want to visit New Hope, hang out with Eddie and Joe, do some magical gardening with Fred, sit on the porch drinking lemonade with Arlys, visit the memorial tree, and just bask in the goodness that is New Hope. Until then, I will wait, not too patiently, for next December!
I cannot believe that I have to wait until next November/December to read Book 3! Guess I’ll be read both of these, books one and two in October… If not sooner…

When Fallon leaves to go train Lana is pregnant. They never mention am almost 2 year brother (Fallon says it’s another boy to Simon). Did I miss something?
On P. 20 it reads “Once when she was only six, she’d curled up in the library with one of Max Fallon’s books…” Simon finds her and they have that conversation about Max. At the end of it, Fallon tells Simon that Lana is carrying a boy. Seven years later she leaves and Ethan is the boy.

Hello all, I’m new to this discussion as I’ve only just discovered this fabulous group while searching for info about Eric & Allegra. I need a question answered about OB&B please. I was gifted the 1st book & I bought the 2nd & now have the 3rd. I have a memory problem due to fibromyalgia so I decided to reread the 1st book (Quite disturbing under the current circumstances in the world) but I gave the 2nd to my sis in law so can’t check it. I remember most of it (Fallons training then the family returned to New Hope) but I can’t remember what happened to Eric & Allegra in the battle in the garden with Petra. I’ve just begun the 3rd & it mentioned the battle but I can’t find any more info online about it. I believe Simon killed Eric, is that correct? What about Allegra & the Purity Warriors? I’m not sure what happened there. I’d greatly appreciate any info. TYIA
eric and Allegra spend a lot of energy trying to protect Petra. Fallon brings Eric down to earth, Allegra and Petra get away, Simon puts a bullet to end Eric.
