Leverage in Death teasers

Leverage in Death cover

One week to go until Leverage in Death is in your hands!  As is tradition, I’m going to share some gentle teasers — little things to look for as you race through the book.  No plot points, no major spoilers, just a little extra eye on details.  I’ll add a new one each day from now until Friday (8/31) to whet the appetite a little bit more.

But first, the book description.

What would you do to protect your family?

Leverage in Death opens with a bizarre suicide bombing in a Wall St. office building. As airline executives finalized a merger that would make news in the business world, marketing VP Paul Rogan walked into the plush conference room, strapped with explosives, and destroyed the room. Headlines spoke of death and destruction, but Eve Dallas confirmed that Rogan was cruelly coerced by two masked men holding his family hostage. His motive: save his wife and daughter. But what motivated the masked men?

Now Eve must untangle the reason for an inexplicable act of terror, look at suspects inside and outside both corporations, and determine whether the root of this crime lies in simple sabotage, or something far more complex and twisted.

Teaser 1 — Tuesday 8/28
  • You will never look at soup the same way again.
  • Feeney has an eye for relationships.
  • Baxter has some deep pockets.
Teaser 2 — Wednesday 8/29
  • Eve considers the various levels of scary Roarke.
  • A dinner conversation ranges from firsts to fathers to friendship.
  • Waffles or oatmeal? An eternal question.
Teaser 3 — Thursday 8/30
  • Peabody is bilingual.
  • Roarke continues to understand all manner of e-speak no matter the age of the e-geek.  (Got the cranks, ha!)
  • Eve comes into some original art.
Teaser 4 — Friday 8/31
  • Eve and Feeney head a host of pals who make a dream come true.
  • A new phrase: “Pull a Roarke.”
  • Eve and Roarke still know how dance around lines in the sand.  And be pissed about it.

OK, that takes us through about three-quarters of the book.  The rest needs to flow through the end of the case.

But stay tuned through the end. Every once in a while there’s an epilogue.

I’ll open the discussion thread bright and early Tuesday morning.

  1. Love the teaser! Now I have to remember to watch for them lol

  2. I love that the books are set in NYC, except New York to Dallas, as I’m a born, raised, worked, now retired in NYC person of a certain. The fact that Leverage is set with Wall Street seemingly having a key to what happened is really interesting, as I worked on Wall Street for 42 years, the first 20 in 2 major brokerage houses, various departments including Mergers and Acquisitions, the last 22 at the NYSE.
Roarke should be of major help on the business end, because he is the Emperor of buying businesses and merging them into Roarke Industries. He understands the dynamics, speaks the language, knows how to follow the money trail.
As usual, nothing is planned for that day, but the initial reading. After I send birthday greetings to a cousin and a friend, make a pot of tea and get settled on the loveseat, I belong to Eve Dallas and Leverage!

  3. I’m excited for this book. It looks to be another awesome addition to the series. Oh, and Baxter needs a regular woman ASAP. I love him almost as much as I love Roark!

  4. Soon, soon I will have my book and I will be able to read it all. Teasers are mean! Ha! Ha! Ha! ? I am on the edge of my seat waiting with baited breath. Laura, you are a gem.

  5. Um, today is tuesday the 28th not the 27th, sorry to be OCD about that. But otherwise I can’t wait for the book to come out.

  6. Already was counting the days! Have had this preordered for months!

  7. All teasers are appreciated. I’ve been on pins and needles since reading rhe excerpt. This looks to be a very original plot.I’m counting the hours. Thanks, Nora, for bringing the ID books into my life.

  8. I couldn’t log on with my name and email. I’m so excited for a new ID book

  9. Look forward to these every book!!! So much fun to go back and look at them when I finish my first read. 🙂

  10. I am so ready for this book! My aunt hooked me to In Death about three years ago, and Ive been reading them non stop ever since! Every time I finish the latest one I start all over again! I can’t wait!

  11. I’ve always wondered how Baxter affords his car and clothing on a detective’s salary.

  12. Can someone please help me remember in which book and ( and part) did Roarke give Eve the diamond. I’m re-reading the series and it was mentioned in Rapture but I can’t remember where in the previous books he gave it to her. Love the whole series.

    1. I think he gives Eve the diamond in the second book which is Glory in Death.
They actually have a fight over it and then He asked her to marry him. I think that’s how it goes but I could be wrong.

      1. No, he asked her to make a deeper commitment and move in with him and she refused because she was either scared or couldn’t admit to herself that she loved him.

    2. He gave it to her in Glory in Death when he told her he was in love with her in her apartment.

    3. It was definitely Glory In Death. In the paperback it’s on pg. 63…loved this book and am going to reread tonight. I love how it brings out Eve’s love and vulnerability with Roarke. AND…hysterical how her and Somerset get physical when he tries to stop her from entering Roarke’s office…it was the first time Eve let herself show her love for him and fear of losing him..God Bless Nora Roberts!

  13. “Baxter has some deep pockets.”

Or a deeper meaning of why he wears expensive suits.

  14. Love ok’ing forward thinking another in Death book with Eve, Roarke and the gang

  15. I’d like a little more on the Feeny has an eye on relationship ?
    Always excellent books

  16. Love the line ‘race through the book’! I read your books usually teice: once to get to the end and a second time to savor. Can’t wait

  17. Love the teasers! The first three really have me wondering. I mean how many ways are there to look at soup? Can’t wait to see what that’s about. I can see Feeney zeroing in on relationships – maybe he’s helping Baxter? The way JDR puts these stories together has given me years of reading enjoyment. I’ld like to go to New York and stop in at the cop shop. Think any of these characters will be there??

  18. Oh, gawd . . . every time Roarke makes Eve oatmeal, I just want to gag. It’s waffles now, waffles forever! Impatiently tapping my very high-heeled foot (sorry, Eve) in anxious awaiting-ness.

    1. You can’t open them. They are just the bullet points under the dates.

      1. How are you looking at the post? I can see all the copy on my phone, tablet and computer.

        Laura

  19. In reading the exerpt, I can’t wait to get this audio book in my player! I love listening to the stories of Eve and Roarke. Susan Erickson does a fantastic job of ‘playing’ all the various roles of the characters! If she ever stops being the reader for these stories, I may have to go back to reading these books vice listening and I really would prefer to listen!!! Nora Roberts/JD Robb….may favorite author, hands down!!!!

  20. Love it!! I can’t wait to get my greedy little paws on a copy so I can inhale it!! Love Eve and Roarke. (I even have a sleep shirt to prove it!)

  21. I’m typically at the end of UPS’s route, so I’ll have to stay away. An epilogue…..hmmmmm. Thanks for the fun teasers!

  22. I wish the book was out this weekend. There is Leverage and another one that are out next week. Wouldn’t it have been great if I could end up in the bookstore over my 3 day weekend? Alas, I’ll have to go next weekend.

  23. Love the teasers,However I had to give up trying to guess how they are related because I am always so far off? Really looking forward to my Eve and Roark fix. Almost 50 books in the series and they never disappoint. Love how they grow individually and together as a couple with each book. JD/Nora is a master at characterization.

  24. My copy came in the mail today! Now that I’m back from my anniversary dinner, I’m ready to start reading. More when I come up for air.

  25. I had a snoop around my drugstore because they sometimes put the books out early. Can’t wait until Tuesday.

  26. Ready and waiting anxiously:)
Thank you for continuously writing these masterworks of art Nora!!
Hoping you and Laura and the gang visit Toronto,Canada soon:)

  27. Will wait for the official comments blog, but for now. . . As Mavis would say, it was magalicious!

  28. Just logged on to amazon.co.uk and not out here until Thursday ….. NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  29. Your books are so in demand, I’m in a book hold for ‘Dark in Death’ until middle/end of September!! Hopefully before my daughter’s wedding! Thanks for all you do and the the time to write your novels! Bless you!

    Jenny

  30. Loved Leverage. Missed the loving between Eve and Roark. Got all the teasers. Lots of fun.Love when Eve mixes up known phases. Cracks me up.

  31. I always say this but I really mean it this time. Leverage is my absolute favorite JD Robb book! I loved it. It included all my favorites characters doing lots of team work. The story line was great, incredible fight and humor in all the right places. I liked having Trueheart and Feeney’s ‘boy’ more active on the team. I thought this book hit every note??
