First Look: Year One

Nora discussed her upcoming trilogy in this post last fall.  Today, I’m so excited to share the cover reveal video St. Martin’s Press created for this amazing cover along with our first look at details of the book.

The video is here: Year One cover reveal

Synopsis:

It began on New Year’s Eve.

The sickness came on suddenly, and spread quickly. The fear spread even faster. Within weeks, everything people counted on began to fail them. The electrical grid sputtered; law and government collapsed—and more than half of the world’s population was decimated.

Where there had been order, there was now chaos. And as the power of science and technology receded, magic rose up in its place. Some of it is good, like the witchcraft worked by Lana Bingham, practicing in the loft apartment she shares with her lover, Max. Some of it is unimaginably evil, and it can lurk anywhere, around a corner, in fetid tunnels beneath the river—or in the ones you know and love the most.

As word spreads that neither the immune nor the gifted are safe from the authorities who patrol the ravaged streets, and with nothing left to count on but each other, Lana and Max make their way out of a wrecked New York City. At the same time, other travelers are heading west too, into a new frontier. Chuck, a tech genius trying to hack his way through a world gone offline. Arlys, a journalist who has lost her audience but uses pen and paper to record the truth. Fred, her young colleague, possessed of burgeoning abilities and an optimism that seems out of place in this bleak landscape. And Rachel and Jonah, a resourceful doctor and a paramedic who fend off despair with their determination to keep a young mother and three infants in their care alive, they really take their job very serious, I’ve met some doctors that don’t care at all about their patient’s life, I’ve seen many of them have trouble with The Medical Negligence Experts due to their irresponsibility.

In a world of survivors where every stranger encountered could be either a savage or a savior, none of them knows exactly where they are heading, or why. But a purpose awaits them that will shape their lives and the lives of all those who remain.

The end has come. The beginning comes next.

And the umbrella title is Chronicles of The One.

  1. Oh my, this plot sounds amazing!! But having to wait another 9 months is not!!! Almost like being pregnant…which I’m not, by the way!!

  2. OMGD! This looks awesome. Bummer having to wait now that I’ve seen this lead in. Is December here yet? LOL!

  3. I absolutely can’t wait for this series!! It sounds right up my alley and the fact it’s written by Nora only makes it 10 times better!

  4. I am enthralled by the concept and am excited to see what Nora does with it.

  5. Oh, yay! Sounds like our Ms. Roberts is taking on a new genre – one that perhaps doesn’t even yet have a name: magicks/sci-fi/mayhem/intensity/maybe love?/mystery/tech . . .

Man, am I glad she’s as prolific as she is . . . and diverse.

The “waiting with bated breath” has begun. So, again: yay!

  6. OK!!! When can we pre-order??? December — like waiting for a baby! In a way, we are —Nora’s latest baby.

  7. Sounds great! It also reminds me of Stephen King’s “The Stand”, which is one of my all-time favourite books.

    1. I was thinking the same as I read it.!..and it’s also my all time fav : ) as an avid Nora reader with great appreciation for her talent… I ‘d say it’s a sure bet this will not only be her own story, it will enchant us in delightful ways!

  8. Holy Moly Nora, You go girl… Wow I can’t wait but I guess that I am going to have to… This is so awesome.
It is ironic that I just started watching “Containment” on Netflix. A virus is unleashed and the city of Atlanta has gone to hell.
So I know that this series is going to be as enthralling and I know that I will Binge read this first book.
I will be the first in line to get it… Love you Nora! I have always admired you from years ago. You have style, grace and a magic all of your own with your wonderful imagination. Take care.

  9. Oh, I can’t wait for this to get to Pre-Order already! I have a gift certificate at Amazon to use for Kindle books just for pre-orders.

  10. Nora is unbelievable. It takes courage to leave the genre you have been writing for decades, and branch out into something completely different. I’m sure it will be spellbinding, as all of Nora’s books are. Good Luck to you- hats off!

  11. OMG! I can’t wait. Maybe something that will rival The Stand, one of my all time faves. Nora is going to kick ass with this!! I just know it.

  12. Very much looking forward to reading this one. I really like this type of story – my main beef is that many writers of this genre create a never-ending series. (I’m not including series like In Death where each novel stands alone). I like that this is a trilogy and that Nora writes her trilogies so quickly 🙂 I know I won’t have to wait years for the end of the story! I’m already interested in the characters just from the synopsis. Now I have to go mark my calendar …

  13. I want to read it because i love nora and i like that its got something magical. Its just worrying me that this will be one of the stories i dont like i usually love all her trilogies and theyre usually the ones i buy no matter what

  14. Oh my indeed! This sounds like a sit by the fire with a cup of hot chocolate kind of book that you won’t be able to put down and will be waiting impatiently for the next one to come out! Can’t wait to indulge!!!!

  15. I’m looking forward to this series. Went out to Amazon already and put in my cart. I’ll pre-order closer to its release date.

I’m one of the fans who really enjoys the in Death series, but not the romantic suspense. (Not a criticism, just not my cup of tea.)

This series with its dystopian aspects has the wide open possibilities that I see in the in Death series. It will be an excellent December break read.

  16. Oh my goodness. How will I ever wait till December. Yesterday was great because I purchased Echoes in Death. Tell Nora she can never quit writing until after I’m gone. I would be devastated if I couldn’t look forward to reading her books. The good thing is I will be 56 this month. So maybe she can retire when she is 100 y/o. Lol. I have all her books Thank her for me. The enjoyment I get from reading her books has gotten me through some really tough times.

  17. My mother gave me my first DJ Robb book. I’ve been hooked since. I still have the book. She died in 2000. When I get missing her I pick up that book and read it. It is tattered and warn. It brings so many memory’s Of us reading. Nora Roberts and DJ Robb and talking about them. Thanks. Can’t wait for this new trilogy.
