Shadow Spell conversation thread

ShadowSpellIt’s March 25 — release day for Shadow Spell.  This second book of The Cousins O’Dwyer Trilogy is Connor’s and Meara’s story.  Connor, a man with the legends and lore of Ireland running through his blood, proudly calls County Mayo home. It’s where his sister, Branna, lives and works, where his cousin, Iona, has found true love, and where his childhood friends form a ciircle that can’t be broken.  Until a kiss with Meara, borne of reaction to a brush with death, changes how they see each other.

This is the place for conversation about Shadow Spell — so spoilers are allowed here.  Reader beware!  Have fun.

  1. I just bought Shadow Spell. Win a magical stay in an Irish Castle. How do I do that. I know that today is the release date and I can’t wait to start the book. Read every book you have written for years. Thank you for your great books.

    1. I have a passion for reading and have done so since I was 6 years old, so naturally it is likely to be thousands of books. However, none so well written as Nora Roberts. When I read one of her books I feel as though I am living it and hate to put it down.
When it is a trilogy it nearly kills me to wait for the next one and I really do not have a favorite. Keep them coming dear lady!
Now that I have a kindle it is going to be a real treat!

  2. I got my copy yesterday. Now just to find time to read it…

    1. Has anyone had a problem with shadow spell? I preordered and started reading and my copy is almost identical to dark witch?.. I had both books open side by side so to speak and there not exact page for page but it is the dark witch story. Is there a way to get ahold of an email or something to get a new copy? Any advice is appreciated.

      1. Susan,

Both books start in the past with the Dark Witch. Shadow Spell takes up the story several years after the original three flee their home. Otherwise they are not the same at all.

  3. Just finished listening to Shadow Spell today, I liked that you got a man to read Conners story. I am looking forward to Breanna’s story.

  4. I have been a fan from the beginning. I am 85% done with Shadow Spell and its only the 26th of March lol. I read Dark Witch again last week so I could start Shadow Spell immediately since I had pre-ordered it on my kindle. I was so surprised and excited that it was loaded after midnight the 25th. After such a long a grueling winter the thought of the 3rd book coming out in November when another winter will begin is crazy. I am in love with this trilogy and don’t want to finish the second so soon but just cant stop reading it. Nora is my most favorite author’s and am looking forward to many more books to come. I think its time to start reading books from the first book ever published and then it wont seem so long until the 3rd book comes out. Keep up the great work Norad.

  5. Dear Nora and Laura,

Just a question, in book 1 Boyle is called McGrath, in book 2 he’s called McGraff… did this slip through?

Furthermore, I LOVE THIS BOOK! Thanks so much for writing about Ireland, it’s on my bucketlist…

    Best wishes, Mirjam

  6. What a wonderful story! I love how easy the words flow. There is never a dull moment and plenty of adventure. The love story is so absolutely radiant that I am amazed the book itself it not glowing! I have this feeling that Fin is holding something back. It is as if he is sacrificing himself out of love for all, but most of all for Branna. I think he is going to die.   Waiting patiently, as possible, for the next one.

    1. I can promise you Fin isn’t going to die. i wouldn’t do that to my readers or my characters.

  7. Loved the story. Wish your editor would have caught the potato thing. No one in Ireland would be harvesting them in the 1200s. The potato was a new world food that didn’t come to Europe until after the Spanish conquered the Incas, in the 1600s.

    1. it’s not just the potato thing, it’s the harvest schedule of vegetables from the garden. No peas at same time as tomatoes etc. Those things stand out. As in the last book there were discrepancies with the timing of flowering trees and other plants that made no sense.

  8. Just finished….wow….wish the third one could come out next week. Love all your books and enjoyed this one.

  9. Performer has no emotion and this is the first Nora Roberts audio after reading hundreds and completing up to date the death series. Good story, performer has poor dialectic of the Irish , loved dark witch and could not wait to get my copy of shadow spell, do disappointed hard to keep focused on the story.

  10. This book was incredible, I was so excited when it arrived on my kindle, thank you so much Nora for this magical adventure. I am looking forward to Branna and Fin’s story next.

Would like to know how to enter to win the Castle stay? I did not see any information on Penguin.

    1. I too cannot find any place to enter for a stay at the castle…please let us know!

  11. I liked the friends-to-lovers romance. Really looking forward to book 3.

  12. Lovely book, as always! All of them being together and fighting for good even when the going gets tough really makes you cheer. I was waiting for this book to be released and now waiting for the next one – am sure like the rest of your fans. Expecting Fin and Branna’s story to be even more exciting and fun!!
    Have a wonderful day!

  13. I’m waiting for my book… it takes centuries (“slight” exageration) but I’ve been enjoying the characters in Dark Witch re-reading it. 🙂
I’ve noticed that Nora’s writings are more full of details (compared to earlier romances) – magick if you want 😉 – and I tend to run through it in the first reading (wasn’t there a critic that said Nora’s Readers went through her books like a chocohalic through a box of Godiva? Yep. That’s me :D. Glad I don’t like chocolate AS much) … and I’ve been known for not enjoying a (recent) book that much and on the second – to the eleventh 😉 – reading it grows and wraps me wonderfully. Happened with Whiskey Beach. Black Hills too now that I think of it. Both are living permanently in my nightstand.
Dark Witch made me anxious for Shadow Spell and the last book too ;).
But I have lots of Nora’s that’ll keep me company till the next :). Now let me go and check my mail box 😉

  14. I recently bought Shadow Spell. I’ve bought all of Nora’s trilogies, etc. This was the first time I have ever had an issue with a book. The publisher (Penguin) or whomever makes the books repeated 31 pages of the text. It went from page 84 back to page 53 to 84 then to 117. Pages 85 to 116 are missing. This is a first but now I have to purchase the book again to find out what happened during those 31 pages. Love Nora’s books but I’m sure I’m not the only one that it has happened to. Might want to bring it to the publisher’s attention. Thanks

  15. I am in love with this series! I wish there was more than three!!!!
I would do anything to go to Ashford Castle!!!! Ireland is so beautiful I’ve been wanting to go for years now. Recently I’ve ordered The Feckin Collection and two Irish history/culture books in an attempt to become acquainted with Ireland. So much craic!

Thank you so much Nora for writing this adventure!

  16. I just devoured Shadow Spell! I can hardly wait for book three and glad the wait will be shorter. I predict a three way wedding?

  17. I loved it. I was actually sad when it was over. I loved it, but I want more. I want more on these people. I wasn’t ready to move on yet. I know there is a third book, but I wasn’t ready to move on from Conner.

  18. I am a huge fan of all things nature, especially birds of prey and horses so this book has ticked all my boxes. Magic, love, friendship hard times and Nora’s own spell of the written word. I am truly captivated, charmed, enchanted, and totally bespelled by you Nora. I know we have a little while to go for the next installment but that just means I start with book 1 again and read all 3 no probs
    Christina x

  19. I just finished book 2. When will 3 be out. I can’t wait. These books consume me.

  20. PLEASE! Hurry with the next book (-: Can’t wait. I own every one of your books ,paper, kindle, and audio. Love Love Love!

  21. I have been reading Nora Roberts for a long time. I get lost in her books. They are my stress relief. I hate finishing one, especially when I have to wait. Just finished Shadow Spell. Now onto The Collector.
