Come Sundown excerpt

In view of the winter weather practically everywhere in the US right now, how about a little taste of summer?

Come Sundown is Nora’s 2017 June release, just in time for vacations and relaxed reading.  What’s it about you ask?  Well…

The Bodine ranch and resort in western Montana spreads a family business over a little over thirty thousand acres, and provides home and history to four generations. Bodine Longbow runs the resort operation with the help of a large staff, including her older brother’s best friend and new hire Callen Skinner, just returned from California. Like Cal, Bodine’s Aunt Alice ran off for bright lights. Alice, gone before Bodine was born, never returned. The Longbows don’t talk about her much. While the younger generation never met Alice and presume she’s dead, she isn’t. She’s not far away, part of a new family she never chose. And her mind has been shattered…

If you subscribe to Nora’s News, you were first to read the excerpt from Come Sundown yesterday.  I’ll keep it here for future reference for everyone. Read Chapter One now.

  5. I am going to love this book as I have all the others. Thanks for the chapter, I love thinking about the characters and location while waiting for the book. I understand that other don’t want to see any until they can see all but some of us are very grateful that you share what you can when you can.

    1. I love it! I am ready to read the rest of the book. Will this be in paperback form in June? We have a used book store in Union City, TN, so I go in monthly and get your books to read.

One paragraph is missing the first capital letter. I assume it is an “S” to start the word “She”.

  6. I can’t wait for this to come out! I love Nora’s Books! I have been a fan for a long time!

  7. Can’t wait go read this. Very excited to see it out soon.Thank you

  8. I Dared read it because I’ll never rest till I have it. So will wait till it’s out.

  9. I read the chapter yesterday, and was hooked. I want to read the rest of the story NOW! I opened my Kindle last night, debated what book to start, and thought what was that one I was reading earlier? Oh yeah, can’t read that for another 6 months. I loved it, but not sure I’m saying Thank you! Sure am looking forward to the book’s release, tho’!

  10. Laura, just a curiosity question. Since Come Sundown is obviously in print why is it so long before it is released to the public? What is the deciding factor when a book should be released?

    1. It’s not in print. I received the uncorrected proof which is used for review purposes. The book still has to go through final production. Scheduling is a big factor in release date — for example, is a book up against another big release? Normally Nora’s about a year ahead of the release date when she turns in a book. Come Sundown was written for the old spring release but is going to be a summer book so there’s a little extra time.

  11. Mean, just plain mean. When a new Nora Roberts/JD Robb book comes out, I usually finish in one day, can’t put it down. Now i have to wait???? So not fair. Can’t wait.

  13. Love the characters and the setting…Interesting dynamics to come, I can see it….Summer reading list….

  14. Lovely start to Nora’s latest. The dialogue between her characters is always impressively natural and remains one of my favorite characteristics of her novels. I look forward to the June release of this book.

    !!!!!!

  17. This is going to be great! How can we wait until June to read the rest of it? One small thing, there is a typo on page two where Jessie was changed to Bessie. Oops. Happens to the best of us.☺

  30. As always you create a story to engage your readers. The setting for the novel and is a beautiful location. Each book has a unique storyline, so I never feel like I have read a similar story. Summer vacation will begin with the new book.

  31. Read it last night. I enjoyed it. Especially since Boston was so cold yesterday, this warmed me up for June. I am on the library list, in the meantime I will wait for Echoes in Death. I will read it to enjoy &savor & not gobble it up in one sitting, so I tell myself

  32. why so late this year don’t they usually come out in April? can’t wait to get it

  33. Can’t wait to read the entire book. From what I’ve read so far, I’d better clear off a day so I read it from beginning to end. It’s going to be a great book.

  34. I loved this teaser! Nora is my favorite author. I have all of her books except thfor JD Robb series. Her trilogies are usually my favorites. I always have a need for the story to continue and see how everyone turns out. This will be on my bookshelf come June!

  42. Super excited, as usual. Currently reading the fourth of the Bride Quartet series. Always have such a better outlook on my daily life when I’m reading one of your books. Reminds me to appreciate everything that I have.

  43. Love all your books, but have a special interest in the trilogies and quartets. How far behind June publication date for us readers in the U.K? Also can we have a clue as to content of upcoming trilogy please.

    1. Hi Anita,

I’m pretty sure Come Sundown will be out in the UK on the same day — June 6. As far as the upcoming trilogy, Nora wrote about it in the blog post New Directions. There’s not much more to tell at this point in time.

      laura

  44. I can’t wait for this book!! Montana Sky was the book in which I got hooked on Nora Roberts (and eventually J.D. Robb!) I’m so excited she is going back to Montana!! ?
