Brotherhood in Death teasers

Less than a week until you have the chance to read the first of the 2016 In Deaths — Brotherhood in Death.

brotherhood

First, a brief summary:

When Brotherhood opens, Mr. Mira just learned his cousin Edward arranged a secret meeting with a real estate agent about their late grandfather’s West Village brownstone, despite the promise they both made to keep it in the family. He heads to the house to confront Edward about it, and gets a blunt object to the back of the head.

When Eve arrives on the scene, he reports the instant before the attack, he’d seen Edward in a chair, bruised and bloody, but when he came to, Mr. Mira found himself alone in the house. With the mess cleaned up and the security disks removed, there’s nothing left behind but a few traces for forensics to analyze.

As a former lawyer, judge, and senator, Edward Mira mingled with the elite and crossed paths with criminals, making enemies on a regular basis. He also made some very close friends behind closed and locked doors.  As the case builds Eve shines a light on the dirty deals and dark motives behind the disappearance of a powerful man, one part of a brotherhood of equally powerful men with secrets to keep.

Now for a few gentle teasers.  I won’t spoil the case, I won’t give away big details.  These are just a few tidbits to look for as the case unfolds.

I’ll add one teaser each day between January 27-30 so bookmark the thread and check in when you can.

January 27
A two-fer:  within a few pages we learn Roarke exercised some restraint in the house design AND a suggested addendum to the Homicide credo.

January 28
A second two-fer:  Peabody has a much better locker room experience in Brotherhood than she did in Treachery.  Oh, and Whitney relays his wife’s interesting opinions on a matter close to the case.

January 29
Eve shares her theories about dolls.  Peabody may be scarred for life.
Oh, and remember Roarke’s reaction to coming upon Will Banner? A couple tables are turned this go round.

January 30
Dolls show up again. This time more people are scarred.
Eve and Peabody show off more than detective skills on scene.

That’s it, guys.  The book will be yours soon enough.

    1. I’ve been hooked since the link to preorder came out. I keep telling myself it’s less than a week now, it’s less than a week.

  1. I can’t wait for the book to be released! Having said that though, I really enjoy the teasers for each new book. They don’t give anything important away but are a nice addition to the excerpts. Thank you.

    1. Plus she tells us and puts them where we have a choice of reading them or not. I have my own ideas about what will happen that I will not say. All I really have to say is I’m glad we’ll get some back story about Dennis. He’s such an integral part of Eve’s life.

      1. Yes. She has such a soft spot for him. It will be nice to see that come to life.

  2. I will be at my bookstore bright and early on the 2nd to pick up this book. Can’t wait to read a Mr. Mira story.

  3. Oh that is so mean. It took me 20 months to read the entire In Death series from Naked to Devoted. Now that I am up to date, I can not wait for Brotherhood. I have no choice but I will be following this thread. I am ready, bring get it on, please!

  4. I am currently indulging myself by reading some of the earlier In Death Books so I will be primed for the new one. So glad that Mr. Mira is prominent in the book as I always love Eve’s interaction with him. I can’t wait to read it 🙂

  5. Can’t wait……Dr. Mira….(sigh) He has always been a favorite character of mine…..

  6. Love the teasers! So glad you spoiled us with the excerpt, which I’ve already reread three times! Can you tell I’m eager for Brotherhood??? Thanks so much for thinking of your fans.

  7. My pre-order is in so I am set for the earliest way to get my copy. These teasers will make the time go faster. Thanks!

  8. As is my habit, I am listening (and isn’t Susan Ericksen great) to the last three books prior to Monday’s release. Pre-order from Audible will be delivered shortly after midnight.

  9. Eve’s reaction to Dennis is just heart melting and her horror of dealing with Mrs Whitney is just fun. I can’t wait.

  10. Sounds like another Peabody-McNabb rendevous like that had in the good ole days at work! Lol

  11. Not that I needed a reason other than another book in the series dang it longest week ever!

  12. Oh, too fun. It’s always interesting when Anna Whitney gets involved! Laura, thanks for the teasers, makes the waiting fun.

  13. I have read the in death series several times and they never get old! Absolutely love each and every character! Please keep them coming!

  14. Whoever struck Dennis Mira will have to answer to his legion of fans!!!!! Just love him! Always excited to get the latest book.

  15. This series is fantastic. I always think what a great tv series it would make if they would stay true to the story. Keep them coming.

    1. No! If they made a series of it they would ruin it. They would never ever get the characters right and there is no one on the planet who could play Roarke.

    2. Nope! TV always messes up the stories and the actors they choose, never come up to par! There is only one actress I can think of that could possibly play Eve. I can’t think of any actor that could play Roarke! I prefer to keep imagining how each of them might look, etc.

Just an opinion here, to each his own.

  16. Sounds exciting. So happy we are bringing Dennis Mira to the forefront . Love that character he is so sweet.

  17. Just can’t wait for the postman to deliver that book…nothing more fun than dropping into the life of Eve and Roarke…see how they are getting on:)

  18. I pre-ordered this in September and have my fingers crossed that Amazon delivers early on Tuesday! Last week I re-read the Chapter One printout — and the teasers just whet the appetite! Am spending the weekend with books by NR — sort of binging on the lady’s talent and imagination.

  19. Could someone refresh my memory on who Will Banner is? I am one of the few who does not re-read the whole series, just my favorites, lol.

      1. Thank you! If you would have said the visiting deputy would have remembered right away lol
        I’m horrible with names.

        1. I know! Just tough to go back and reread for the 60 gazilionth time! I will be hitting my Barnes and Nobles on Friday although I won’t be reading it that weekend. I have my 5 minions for the weekend and have too much fun to sit and read. ESPECIALLY J.D. Robb.

    1. I’ve re-read most of them and can’t think of who he is either!

  20. I must not be rereading enough! I don’t remember Will Banner. What book was that from? I’m rereading and am on Strangers. Anxiously waiting for Tuesday

  21. I’m eagerly awaiting this, and curious to see how these teasers work out.

  22. Anxiously awaiting…for some reason I put that it was to be released the 16th of Feb. I’ve kind of ignored the dates on line, at the book store, in my email. So, I am very excited I have even less time to wait!!

  23. Oh, my! That third teaser though…. cannot wait! Already got the day off and I’m planning to read ALL day long!!!

  24. How will Dr. Mira handle Dennis Mira’s involvement? Eve may be forced to show how deeply she feels for Charlotte.

  25. Sorry but can’t remember Will Banner? However I love all the In Death books

    1. Wow, I was surprised at comments indicating not everyone remembered Will Banner. I thought he was a great new character, and one I would love to see show up again from time to time. No, I’m not suggesting that he leave his family, friends and work to be a cop with NYPSD — but he was so clearly depicted as meshing really well with Eve and her team, and was just so interesting a character (even Eve thought he was charming, and you know how hard she is to impress!) that I’ll miss him if I don’t ever “see” him again. 🙂

      1. I would love to hear from Will again even if just to ask Eve advice. He was a great character

        1. I am on the “Will wagon” with everyone if Nora ever thinks he fits into another story. 🙂

  26. Well now I really can’t wait but in the long run Tuesday is not that far away!!! I am going to start reading it as soon as I get home!

  27. Ordered from Amazon. Should be in my mail box 2/2/16. I cannot wait. Thanks for the teasers. Love all Nora’s books.
Have read everyone. Also love your posts Laura. 🙂

  28. Never wants a weekend go fast like this weekend . Only 1 more day . I’ll be first when Costco open on Tuesday to buy the book .

  29. Love Mr. Mira. Love the Peabody locker room moment. Had some good laughs and seriously sniffly moments in this one.
